TREWHITT The Temple Publishing Company 626 D Street, Northwest WASHINGTON, D. 0. AUTHOR'S NOTE v ^r , < In offering this volume to the public I feel I would be doing the public, the intelligence that gave it, and myself, an injustice if it were withheld. This volume was received by myself in what is known as automatic writing, and no doubt all who read it* know something of automatic writing and the manner in which a medium is controlled. Automatic writing is the act of writing without using your own thoughts to dictate what should be written, but letting an un- seen intelligence, a spirit, control your hand and write. This intelligent force will express in writ- ing its thought, irrespective of your own mind. The words that are written come very fast, faster than you would be able to write and follow your own channel of thought and express them in words. The writer does not know, in most instances, what the next word that is to come will be, until the word is written; sometimes, however, writings will take on the form of inspiration, in that case whole sentences will come following each other in quick succession. '..* DEC 31 1921 .A654091 nrv* I AUTHOR'S NOTE When the message is completed by the in- telligence that controls my hand a name is properly affixed. The feeling I personally experience during the time the communication is being received is that of the mind being a perfect blank, the words coming without any effort upon my own part to call them into action and organize them to properly express the thought which I would like to convey. Usually I feel a certain amount of exhaus- tion when the writing ceases, but this exhaus- tion is only temporary; it soon leaves me and I feel no ill effects. My experience has been such that I am convinced the reason for so many incoherent expressions that so often come through auto- matic writing, table tipping, and the ojuia board, is due to the fact that the perceptive organs of the mind are untrained; these conditions surround the medium or the operators of the table or the ojuia board, the temperment of an individual or participant, and their environment. I am not giving this volume to the public as a literary effort, but I am giving it with a hope that the truth it contains will 7*each AUTHOR'S NOTE those with receptive minds who will be bene- fited by its teaching to the fullest measure. Some five years ago I commenced to receive automatic writings; at first the writings were ambiguous and incoherent, but gradually grew better until they took on form of personal advice or counsel. Among these writings of personal advice which were very plain to me because they related to my everyday life, were skits, para- graphs, and phrases which I could not at that time understand. After a period of two and one half years I received several messages to the effect that I was to write a book, and was advised it was in the personal advice and counsel I had received, and for me to compile this volume which I am now giving to the reader. On account of my inexperience in this line of endeavor I feel my inability to properly arrange and classify these writings under their proper captions. I therefore beg of the reader to consider the truths this volume contains, to this extent, that they may be to them a para- mount good. Paul W. Trewhett. September 1. 1921. PREFACE To enable us to procure for the human race a place in the material life that they can en- joy, we wish to establish certain truths. Down trodden humanity must be avenged in this respect; having for themselves such comforts that are accorded each and every one of (iod's children. To that end we are striving. As you are willing to be used in this direc- tion, we accord you a helping hand, which few in material life ever receive. Many people are helped where there is no credit given the Spirit Forces. To us credit does not appeal; we work in life's vineyard for the love of our fellow man. Seek then the field chosen for you, that you may not only prosper in the material, but also in the spiritual. With love and assurances of continued assistance, Your Guides aud Control. Your wish so cherished shall be blest, And heaven shall be your rest. SCIENCE SCIENCE reveals to man facts through the true application of law. In the great fields of scientific endeavor, the scientist in his special calling, is an emissary of the very highest order; he extends his work, disregarding you and me, and hammers away at the precious truths, which lie con- cealed by ignorance and folly. The scientist bedecks the laud with marks that can not be effaced, through, and by which future generations may, and will be led into paths less strewn with the pitfalls so com- mon to your people, into which they plunge headlong through ignorance. In the future when science shall have e raced from the basic prinei pies of spiritualism the distortions placed npm them, thereby getting a tinner footing upon which to build, great truths will come forth, truths so plain and simple, babes will see and understand. 11 SCIENCE When through scientific investigation ideas of the workings of nature come to man, they come all distorted by the work of so many people, who through ignorance of the power of thought, harness the waves into an ava- lanche which breaks into the thought chambers of the scientist. Matters not how hard he may strive to combat it, it wedges itself into his work in such manner he can not exactly understand his own cogitations. Were it not for the prejudices so rife with- in the minds of the general public, regarding the various views of scientific investigations, the country would reap untold benefits and the alms houses would henceforth be tenantless. However, prejudices do stalk the land, but shall give way to a free and more progressive thought. 12 SCIENCE In the scientific study of life a true work- ing basis is absolutely essential, and can be had by a close observation of nature, of which you are a part. Throughout all science you find the evolutions which come to you are marked with sacri- fice; the sacrifices are the essen- tials which embody the greatest good. Thought actions are produced in nature; such are the expres- sions in all life. Man plays his part in the ex- pression, and from these are gathered the great achievments of the ages. 18 SCIENCE A Scientist should be an im- partial being unmoved by arrog- ance and ignorance, knowing no doctrine or creed, a lover of righteous movements and the proper acknowledgment of justice. An intern pe rate a p p 1 ic at io n of desire will bring unto you an unjust equation of densities. Desire should be regulated by temperance. Intemperance will beget for you an over estimate of intent. The proper course of action is one of constant application to truth. In all life sacrifices come, and in the coming, you choose and mold your destinies, be it in whatever channel your mind may care to dwell. 14 SCIENCE In framing all laws which govern the material elements or the spiritual realms, the princi- ples of wisdom are made manifest. A presentation of facts are convincing and a conclusive evidence will bring about a general acceptance of truth. By research and study truths are established, and their effects are permanent. The embodiment of Truth is a tower of Hope. 15 SPIRITUALISM SPIRITUALISM is the stepping stone to the great possibilities that lie before you. No human mind can conceive, and no spirit can impress upon man the greatness of the Omnipotent Hand promulgating all life. No science, no creed, no human perception can in any way direct even a small ray of light upon this great Spirit philosophy. Spiritualism will take you through the far reaching sciences and when that is done it has only prepared you for the commence- ment of spirit research; for beyond this material vision of comprehension the field is so vast that only by spirit can man be enlightened as to his future progress. 16 NATURE The laws of God are immut- able and unchangeable, and as we are born under the law, we are to comply with the law, and reap the blessings commensurate with the keeping of the law. Search, then, dilligently the ways of God, for in them you have eternal peace and dominion. NATURE is the key note around which hang the various laws we recognize and realize as true revelations. The finger prints of nature are ever present, and repeating the same thing over and over again. In nature we find the various atoms of matter blended in different forms with different attributes all living and working under the same laws of cause and effect, attraction, repulsion, and the transformation processes. 17 NATURE Nature in all her various forms of life, the animal, vegitable, and mineral kingdoms, shows how strikingly her laws are enforced; working in the same groove, a complete system of growth, maturity, and the final transition. In all nature you will find intelligence, which is the culmination of the various forms of life essences. One within itself would not be of any consequence, but the culmination of these various life essences brings to yon an avowed intelligence. Each and every element has its affinity, and in due time comes forward by the ave- nues of intelligence in the birth of new forms. Thus you perceive the forces of the positive and negative, which carry with them two other forms, attraction and repulsion. In nature the seasons and years are mark- ers of time, mile posts in man's material is NATURE existence, whose progress is slow due to a mind not as yet, fully developed, awaiting its future by a scientific study of life. In -all animated nature man feels the presence and intelligence of life, the life that is never lost. Nature loves with all her strength, And might within her hand Rules supreme, in breadth and length, And rests, upon the strand. Nature all so pure and good, Gives to each and every man Just portions for his daily food Acd raiment from the land. At fireside and the hearthstone, Nature teaches, oh, so sweet The love notes of the new born, In twain do both loves meet. Nature gives to each new parent, Lessons for each to learn And sends them forth in patience, To bring their just return. 19 NATURE The flowers in spring time send forth their fragrance to the atmos- phere by the incoming gases enter- ing the cells of their bodies, so we as spirit entities drink in from the great fountain of love the semblence of His Majesty. It is just as essential for the life of the spirit to live by the love of the infinite as it is for the flower to breath the gases in the atmosphere to enable it to put forth its blossom. As there is no effort upon the part of the hyacinth to waft its fragrance so there is no effort upon the part of spirit to drink at Love's fountain. Nature is all sufficient to give forth her own, and through that channel new fields will open and new workers placed within the gates. 20 NATURE Reflex action in nature tends to distroy a harmful structure when they come in contact, rather than to build it. To over- come them, it is essential to hold aloof from all elements that would tend to disarm your best intentions and purposes. Truly the forces of nature are great, and an understanding of the beloved of nature will bring unto that one the lovely precepts and examples that teach and lead them in paths most beneficial. 21 THE HUMAN BODY T^HE human body is of a composite forma- * tion embracing in one form a structure in which the Infinite Mind, GrOD, can operate in this sphere of material elements. Throughout all creation, the crowned work of His love is made manifest in man. Into this composite form are gathered in- numerable life atoms which by their own nature link themselves together into one perfect mass, upon which the Master Hand has played His part in perfect Art, and in the ensemble has brought into action life, which will resound throughout the ages in His eternal love in song. By the operation of nature, sympathy is born within the structure which the great Infinite Mind, GOD, has organized. In this tabernacle of the soul should dwell that all permeating love of the Infinite Father. 22 THE HITMAN BODY In the treatise of the subject in hand you must first take into consideration the love of the Infinite Mind, In love abides all the attributes that make you one, cementing you into a fraternal brotherhood of kind deeds and noble thoughts vibrating in perfect unison, harmony, and in accord with the Divine Plan. In this manner the various life atoms are assembled, working together in a fraternal brotherhood, onti supporting the other, fashioning themselves after His own plan, and molding themselves into symmetrical lines. Thus the body is bora, composed of the various parts you term bone, cartilage, sinew and the like, all blended together, formed and attached, each relying upon the other, all takingcare of their own alloted work, per- forming their functions in perfect unison and harmony, and in accord with the Divine Plan. 23 THE HUMAN BODY It is plain that the life atoms which support the various particles that compose the bone are not the same life entities that compose the nails of the fingers, the hair and flesh. It is also shown that the flesh and hair, and other parts of the body are of the same life, but different expressions of that life, separate and distinct, each relying upon the other for support. These life atoms being of the same life but different expressions are so inter-allied that they come together and cling to each other. By the powers of perception you know what part of the body is injured, other parts having no grievance, dwell with each other in the same house in perfect harmony, peace, sympathy and love; — their perceptive poweis are limited. Throughout all the make-up of the human 24 THE HUMAN BODY body you find joined together substances you call bone, flesh, fat, and the like, and do not stop to consider that these substances are builded or joined into a composite mass by the innumerable life atoms which are in- telligent and active, ever in motion, causing vibrations which respond to nature and her laws. These little people we will call them, are peaceable, loveable, loyal and true, standing together in all true sympathy. When the trials of life come they stand together as a unit, brave, honest and fearless, showing unto you how perfect the Infinite Mind has molded into action their very being by His word. When one can no longer hold his place among his fellows and makes the transition, then it is his fellows take up the work, and repair the severed connection made in their home. 25 THE HUMAN BODY They do not let the right hand know what the left hand doeth. These little people set an example for the master of the household to show unto his fellows a general good will and a helping hand which should awaken a keen interest in his brother's welfare and comfort, and ho carry home the will of the Infinite Intelli- gence, or GOD. 2(> THE HUMAN BODY In all of nature's work you see Beauty in all its wonderous tones, The rivers, lakes, flowers, and bees, Among the trees of nature sown. All the colors from morning's sky And setting of the evening's sun, Can the human mind with naked eye Perceive in nature all her own. The greatest of her works in part, Are on nature's canvas shown; Can you compare with human art, The human form in color tone? The human form, a living art, Standing forth in nature's all, A living image God imparts An exact image of His soul. He lives within the human mind, His soul dwells there supreme; Beckons, look within and find, The all true secret place for Him. THOUGHT From spirit all thoughts are born and enter the material arena, directing their actions in right doing, prompted by the will. T^HOUGHT based upon the theory that ' it is an emanation of the human mind is false. "Thought is far above this materialistic view. The concentrated energies of the atomic life, atoms in nature, cause the principles of the perceptive organisms to move and act, which promulgates an active principle. You perceive then that the actions of the life atoms within the form, by desire and sensation, rule and govern the nature of thought. Thought then is an emanation coming from an active reality. When thoughts penetrate the avenues of reason they bring to you eventually a culmina- tion by the laws of cause and effect. You can not realize the worth of such 28 THOUGHT action because you have within you the ulti- mate or completed form. In spirit you watch the progressive action of thought coming from sensation by want or by desire of the atomic life atoms. They are cultivated in spirit and come into matter a born ultimate. All creative energies in nature are emana- tions of Deity. They evolve all the true principles which reflect the arts, sciences, and evolutions of matter. Evolution brings to you culminations in their various forms and in their true state of development. Thoughts then are divine attributes, and permeate the atmosphere of all climes. There is no limit to the action of thought; it is akin to time and space. Thought is and ever shall be a weapon of love and by the proper application of this 29 THOUGHT divine attribute men can climb to the highest peaks of success. To define thought would be to define God. As God is all Infinite you can go no farther than to have a true concep- tion of thought being the greatest of the Divine attributes. Thoughts come to you, not from the various life atoms of nature, but by the Divine workings of love. You then come to a realization of this fact: thoughts come to you, and in their coming, you determine your actions either good or bad. Man being a part of the all intelligent God, as you are taught by the greatest of all Seers, Jesus Christ; u in whom you live, move, and have your being" you are able to rectify the errors of perception through the divine attribute, love. Thought will soften, harden, multiply, or lay low. The great question then arises will you conquer or ruin, exalt or destroy. au THOUGHT If in harmony with Divine Love, the errors controlling your thought are overcome, mak- ing a clean, pure, true, and wholesome life. Thought forms are essential. From their impress upon the souls of men, actions are marked with deeds. Thought pouring in from every side is a thing to be prized and en- couraged. Wholesome thought will yield to every convincing argument and the fields of barren waste will be tilled by the ever progressive Idea. 31 THOUGHT Each season of the year by the avenues of thought, are brought to you new ideas and creations. Also movements are brought into action seemingly too fast for your comprehension to grasp. A rational mind will think. Without thought it will not beget a conclusion of any kind, rational or irrational. Take heed of thought and the expressions from which emanations come. ?>2 INTELLIGENCE IN all nature there is intelligence made manifest in the various forms. of life. Intelligence is closely allied to thought, and is the manifestation of the coming to- gether of the culmination of Life's essences. Thought is the culmination of desire or sensation of the life atoms made manifest. Thought, theu, is the off-spring of both the material and the spiritual, while Intelli- geuce is of Spirit alone. By intelligence thought is harnessed and sent upon its mission. You have the intelligence of man, of the beast of the field, of the fowls of the air, as well as the inanimate things of life. These intelligences are so inter-allied that you are enabled to trace them to the fountain of all knowledge and wisdom, the Infinite Intelligence, GOD. So you find man an emanation of the Deity :->> ?> INTELLIGENCE a God, as it were, whose intelligence is the successful culmination of the lower forms to higher attainments, promulgated from time to time through the avenues of progression. It is very plain then that to think properly is to harness the powers of thought intelli- gently. Intelligence in nature in all her forms, Reflect in her a higher life; Wherein all power is forever born To crush the prevalent works of strife. Will hatred, selfish thought be torn From within the heart of every man, And stronger purposes unfold To better help where e' re it can? 34 THE INFINITE MIND THE mind, or intelligence, of all forms of life is Deity, or GOD. The Arts, and Sciences, are reflections of this great and true, all-perfect principle, made manifest to man in, and through, the all-creative energies. Wisdom is displayed in all the works of nature and shows the love with which nature has displayed her skill. Wisdom and love are the key notes upon which rest all the true happiness of man. You know of a truth, love abounds, for in nature the laws are in perfect harmony, all working in perfect unison. In the spiritual realm man is molded into a perfect oneness. This oneness begets strength of such magnitude and power, its influence is felt upon nations and men. The cleansing of nations must come from this oneness of might and power. THE INFINITE MINI) Great political and religious out-bursts as well as wars are from the occult or unseen forces. Love is the great weapon which the Infinite Mind has given to man with which to conquer his own errors. (rod's will is paramount and supreme. His laws are just and true, and all hearts will, in time proclaim the glory of His love. 36 THE INFINITE MIND God is as infinite as all of time and space, His Hand is ever leading you unto the land of grace. Will you proclaim His Holy Works, and ne'er will disdain To answer every call of His, and proclaim His Holy Name? Men falter by the wayside near, and in their seeking fame Hover o'er the broken paths without a heart throb pain. Men seek the shelter of His Love, and hope with Him to reign, But none can look upon His Face 'til they are pure again. 37 THE INFINITE MINI) God is all one perfect love, and from His Grace untold, Men are born and reared as one, within a common fold. Every one must reap the acts, they themselves have sown; Their every act, and deed, are entirely their own. Their future then, releasing them, and from His Hand of old, Go forth into History, their destinies to mold. 38 ATTRACTION HP HERE is no law in nature more potently *■ brought home to man than the law of attraction unless it be the law of gravity. The law of gravity holds the same relation to the law of attraction as thought does to the law of intelligence. By the laws of attraction you are conceived. Through the laws of gravity you are born. In applying the law of attraction you dis- cover the cause of your environment. It is a generally accepted fact, and is true, that you are spiritual and therefore attract to you such spiritual entities as are akin to your own. The little birds perched far above, Attract by mirth and song, True men who with a fervent love, Listen as they pass along. You attract loved ones the same As birds with their mirthful song, And bring to you. your dear ones Who help you inarch along. 39 CAUSE AND EFFECT TN forming any plan or arrangement you ■*- work from a cause that prompts your action, which when brought into play, will execute your desire and in course of time an effect of the cause is an accomplished fact. When thought penetrates the avenues of reason, reaching intelligence, it is by the laws of attraction that the thought has reached its ally or affinity, reverting back through the avenues of mind, bringing to you eventually the culmination of your desire. In making your investigations you will find that intelligence has the power of deduc- tion; deductions, thoughts; thoughts, causes; and causes, effects. In the promulgation of all life it is found that the same Laws are brought into action, each relying upon the other, all conforming to a great, true, basic principle. From a true basic principle all laws work ' ( ) CAUSE AND EFFECT in uoison and harmony thereby reaping a perfect effect. From these unchangeable principles you find nature working in all forms of life under the laws of cause and effect. Beyond the com prehension of man's intellect, the forces of law are perfect in action and accu- rate in construction. The evolu- tions of matter are the same at all times and unchangeable. In the culmination of the various life forces man stands out in material life an instrument for good, unlike his creator in form but like Him in power. The onward progress of power is the constant progression of thought. All powers by their expression are emanations of the Divine Will and the reser- voir for the sustenance of man. 41 CAUSE AND EFFECT The evolution of one's will is astounding and the inability of the mind to grasp the greatness of the power keeps you day to day in ignorance. The same to-day will not be the same to-morrow. Each new cause produces a new effect, one act leading unto another until the die is cast. The advent of each spirit in the material w r orld, is marked with its previous personality. Retrogression is impossible, but progression is an assured out-growth of all forms of life. As life comes without the asking so does maintenance come by the same law. 42 CAUSE AND EFFECT A cause is not the effect, but the creator; unlike the cause in form but like it in power. Memory anchors all forms of deceit, malice, and envy, while it also anchors truth and unselfish motives. 43 CAUSE AND EFFECT The knowledge that you all possess Comes by the given law. Deeply anchored within the breast, Knowledge there for all. The cause for this is very plain — Beneath the fertile mind, Man dwells supreme, deep within Knowledge there for all. The effect you find on every hand — Unlike the man you see, He shows his skill in every land, A useful man is he. His work goes on unto the end When comes a change with thee, You cease your toil, then ascend And you a spirit be. Reap the seeds that you have sown And work to higher realms Change again, and then again, Unto your perfect self. 44 SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF LIFE I N the scientific study of life the selective * and inductive methods are the safest and best forms of procedure, drawing your deduc- tions from demonstrated facts in nature. A true working basis is absolutely essential aud can only be had by a close observation of nature around you. Nature's laws are true and when complied with you reap a perfect effect. When you deviate from the law your hypothesis will lead you into labyrinths of error into which truth can never enter. You find by natural conditions that you are a communicative and social being, with mind channels expanded, which enables you to receive impressions of spirit thought ema- nating from the kingdom of knowledge and wisdom, which are reflections from the Infinite Mind who has created laws which are un- changeable and true. These laws are of such I.", SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF LIFE magnitude that you stand in awe, and wonder at their grandeur. Impressions are the factors dominating the world forces. Were it not for the fact that the work of the past ages has developed your mind until to-day you have mastered the product of thought action, Spirit could not reach man and develop the great things that face you to-day. The aim and object of Spirit is to further the great truths that lie in the recesses of nature, and when the willing hands are at work an unlimited field stands open for active duty. The scientific study of life brings you within the bounds of human reason and does away with all forms of deception. At the same time it enhances your scope of mental attainment. The resources of the Infinite Mind are 4C> SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF LIFE at your command and enrich your own perceptions. Thus you can reason from logical view points and receive a degree of truth you could not in any other way attain. The cosmic workings of nature are based upon a given law, or truth. Truth is the everlasting rock of ages upon which the foundations of all life are built. It is the essence of the everlasting GOD. As thought emanates from its various sources in life so truth emanates from the Divine Father of all life. Truth marks the shadows where the erring stop to rest and points the path to an eternal life of joy, peace, and comfort. As the shadows fall upon the path- way of life and the clouds hide the sun at noon-day, Truth marks the way for the morning's dawn and crowns the effort with joy. Truth is eternal, as God is eternal. As man SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF LIFE goes forward in the progressions of life his foot- prints are left in the sands of time for the guidance of others through the many changes in life's history. Truth knocks at the door of the un- prejudiced and calls to the unselfish, beckons to the pure in heart and reveals its beauty in nature. The unerring truth in nature teaches man the way he should go and this intelligence shall lead him unerringly. As the fields ripen in their season and the flowers bloom within their month, so the sun, moon and stars keep their relative positions within the firmament, God's laws are unerring. God's laws are just. God's laws are truth. Who shall say the laws of God are unjust? Who shall say the law of God changeth? Who shall say the laws of God emanate from a changeable intelligence? 4S SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF LIFE Reason points out the treacherous paths of a self-ordained creed or doctrine, and directs the ways of intelligence in nature's path of law and truth. Why nature's paths? From nature all is, that is. In the present chaos of man's exist- ence, he being a part of nature, he is led by the foot-prints in nature's fields. When you travel through the various lands you mark the contrasts in the various forms of nature which you meet on your journey, just the same as reason encounters the vari- ous marks of time upon the mental status of man. Within the hand of every traveler or explorer, the compass is a constant compan- ion and guide, so do the unerring laws of nature point the ways of life. You may gather shells upon the sea shore and scatter them upon the path- way of life even unto vour home. 4 V> SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF LIFE Von may gather the lillies of the field and bedeck your path with their fragrance, but, ere the sun has set, the lillies have lost their freshness and the shell its place upon the barren fields of waste. The true forms of life are the reflections of the one life. The true worth of a man's charac- ter is this expression in his material actions. The rich and the poor dwell in the same house together, true to the master of that house, reflecting their lives in their respective spheres. The true character of a life is exemplified in the actions of the form and reflects the true principles of an inner consciousness by their actions among men. The judgment of men availeth nothing in man's restoration neither can man's judgment lead men into the avenues of a useful reality nor can man's judgment set the principles of 50 SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF LIFE nature to his own liking, but, ere the race is run acknowledgment should come for the guidance of man. It is useless to recommend any given law whereby you can attain the high degree which all men should strive. to attain; because of the different environments under which they live. The one law would not suffice for all, for each one moves and acts within his own domain of action. But it is safe to say, if each and every one would strive to attain a certain degree of enlightenment which would heighten his spiritual being, he would ere loug achieve a recognizable perception of a perfect way that would mold his life into a perfect accord with the laws of nature. In all the scope of one's mental attainment there is none staple save one, the law of retri- bution and compensation. By this law all mental calibers are harmonized and molded, SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF LIFE pouring out their own essences upon life forces which bring into action the highest forms of endeavor. Without the law of retribu- tion and compensation all forms of life would be blasted into fragments from which no truth could ever come. To safeguard the welfare of all peoples living in the different climes of the world, there are laws pre-eminent in which all truth abound, and from these laws all forces are held at the command of nature. All Celestial and Terrestial forces are in abeyance to this great true life and power. The progressive elements of your sphere only emphasize the truth of this assertion. You then come to an all important truth that all life is an off-spring of the one great life, the source of all forms both of spirit and of matter. LIFE I N taking up the great questions of life, and * all tilings pertaining there-to, you take up the work which should be in the breast of each and every one of creation. A great principle and a basic idea under-lie all, and in due time the truth worth of an earnest heart will shine forth with revelations, that will permeate every avenue of useful endeavor. You can not divide the truth from the light, they are inseparable, but you can so cloud the light with untruth that a seeming dogma is the only logical basic principle upon which to build a spiritual super-structure. Each and every edifice so built can not stand, but lay in waste upon the sands of time. The only super-structure that can stand, and hold the great edifice of spiritual en- lightenment, can only be built upon Truth. The true basic principle can only be LIFE obtained by the study of nature, because there is nothing that now is. or ever shall be, but what comes from the spirit side of life. The unseen man harnesses his thoughts into acts, and develops the Spirit's conceptions. As thought is an emanation of love, and love is of God, it is plain that all progress made by man is not of his own ingenuity, but promptings emanating from Spirit that domi- nate the life of man. When men lay aside the workings of Spirit they become egotistical and self-willed and trusting to their own strength they soon balk in their progression. You do not go in all directions at once, you are dominated by force, and your course is a direct one: you can combat that force and theieby encounter that which comes to the egotistical and self-willed. One can not expect to prosper in life who ->-[ LIFE by bis own actions shows unto others that his own inclinations are self-emanations. This being true, you should accept inspiration. Inspiration is a guiding star to a thoughtful soul, who by his actions, attracts unto himself the inspired help of the ages, cancelling all self-conceit and egotism; going forward, dis- pensing unto his fellows that which in due time will yield unto them a rich harvest. The virtues embodied in man are many, and when applied make for him recognition in all branches of endeavor. The virtues so often noted are stamped within the fore-head and can never be erased. These virtues are brought forth in course of time, and stand for all that is good and true. Remember the acts of man reveal the in- ward conscience or soul, if no progress is made in the material life to overcome one's faults there is no progress spiritually, but when LIFE you overcome the so-called inherent traits, then your progress is most evident. All deductions coming from nature and her laws lead you to a consciousness of fact, and new laws will dawn upon you. Psychological facts are demonstrated day by day, but spirit manifestations do not come so easily; it takes time, perseverance and patience. The road is of such importance in the going and coining, that the spirits try time and again to find those in whom they can place confidence. In starting out in this undertaking the work will depend largely upon your efforts to understand the environment in which you labor. This is accomplished by study of self, and the application of higher thought, en- grafting it into your real self, and making it manifest in your material life. This will bring unto you higher forces which will r><; LIFE reveal to you the great truths that come from the Most High. Spirit recognizes every effort made in over- coming the errors of one's life, and will aid and assist in reaching a goal of usefulness and the establishment of a brotherhood in the material life, which by your own conduct will reveal the everlasting principles of life, "LOVE." May you by your every-day life exemplify to your fellows the principles of brotherly love and affection, before which all hate, envy and malice will melt as time rolls on. The time will come when the clergy of your land will be glad to embrace and receive the good tidings that come to those who earnestly seek light by the avenues of truth and reason. By reflection there will eventually come a time when great works will be done, and through these demonstrations LIFE thousands will be led to see and realize their oneness with the Supreme Being. We truly wish all who are in the study could understand with a true clearness the operations through which we, as Spirit, work. All impatience would become true recon- ciliation, and your endeavors would be crowned with greater success. Never marvel at unseeming slowness; your development must of neccesity come that way. The greatest seers that have come to the world, up to the present time, have not been born over night. It has taken time and study to prepare them for the great work. Through the law of cause and effect the truth will be handed down from plane to plane until it reaches the one who in love divine, will receive it with a thankful heart. Be true, be (dean, be pure; love with that divine love that shines within. 58 LIFE Upon the earth plane it behooves each and every one to do their duty to God and man. In all your endeavors seek for that which is good. You want the best; seek that which will stand the test of time; for a useful man will act becoming his station. A man's worth lies in his activity. Opportunities do not come at every turn of the road, but when the gate is ajar then it is that the true road is made clear and an open field is presented to view. The path-way is clear to each and every one, to the young and old alike; all agree in perfect accord to the Tightness and justness of things — but, when it comes to conforming to the Truth the weight is hung and the balances drawn to one side. Kach and every one should practice the principles of charity, benevolence and love. When these are practiced in spirit and truth, they beget a tender heart that melts, and 59 LIFE pours out mercies to those, who by neglect, thoughtlessness and wretchedness, are bound to averice and greed. Charity, benevolence and love reach far into the recesses of the inner man, and bring out from within him that good which shines as a beacon light to the wayward mariner, — TRUTH. The spirit of love comes within the aura of man and helps him to attain higher ideals and nobler purposes; imbuing him with re- newed energy, vim and vigor, which are essential in dealing with the problems of life. In reaching down through the ages you find the great fountain of love is built of knowl- edge and wisdom and exemplified in man by the proper recognition of its origin. Garner in the riches that lie before you, ever strive to be active and alert; welcome ail and trust the good. 60 LIFE Say to the east whence comes your beauty? Say to the west whence comes your power? The answer will come in unmistakable terms,— LOVE. Seasons of the year come and go in order, blending one into the other and gradually chang- ing until the maximum is reached. 6] MAN SOCIALLY Stimulate your endeavors by action, that true principles may come forward in such form as to organize each and every indi- vidual in material life into a oneness of principle. r I "HE fragrance of one's character is in the * relationship borne to society. The fragrance can be a sweet essence which is everlasting, or it can be a sweet essence that soon passes away; matters not the fragrance if you, as children, will improve each passing moment to the conditions of a devoted friendship. The fostered enterprises that come among the masses in the social realms of life to-day, are of such character as to further plunge the masses of society into deeper entangle- ments caused by selfishness, and an egotisti- cal desire upon the part of the founders of all such institutions. 02 MAN SOCIALLY You can not conceive now of any institu- tion that fosters the true brotherhood of a contented people; on the other hand, they bring, in the course of time, discontent and antagonism. The average intelligence of man is at present attached to that level which he him- self desires and nothing more. The usual foundations upon which men work to-day is to accomplish, not general good will among the social world of human en- deavors, but to apply the knowledge they receive for their own comfort and benefit. The spirit of man should not take cogni- zance of what men will think of their acts and deeds, but look forward with a loving impulse to spread their knowledge, to the general comfort of the human race. In the school of experiences within the mortal sphere you find all classes af mental <>3 MAN SOCIALLY attainments, working in grooves peculiar to their own character, unmindful of the great spiritual up-lift that shall come, and under whose guidance the Master Mind, GOD, will bring to an equilibrium, like unto his own unselfish love. Thus will the rights of every man be adjusted aud all His people will be- come energetic men who will develop minds of power, with the unerring guidance of unselfish personalities. Before these adjust- ments come, men must look within to the great inner life for their guide instead of the gold in which the present generations are entangled. Many men and women leave their benefactors because of the increased compensation they receive in the transfer, or having served a term of employment with their benefactor embark in a like enterprise and in a great many instances carry with them the benefator's clientele. This is wrong. f>4 MAN SOCIALLY In the foregoing citation it is not intended it should be brought into this forecast because of its foreign element or unsound basic idea, but only to show the trend of the human mind to gather unto itself as much as is possible for it to obtain. The gulf that now spans the nations of all climes is the result of causes spread over periods of time, which is working to a perfect equilibrium of a brotherhood of useful people. The catastrophes of time could be averted but the many who form the ever ready list of human energy stop short of their relation- ship to all that is ennobling, thereby wielding uncertain conditions in your active daily rela- tions one to another. Do not reckon with irregularities however, but to the contrary let your future be outlined with system and regular actions; time well spent in any line of duty will be more far-reaching than to r>;-> MAN SOCIALLY place it upon many questions which would entail a multiple of energy. Apply your energies in one channel at a time, and then as the project matures, new fields will naturally springforth as the mush- room with its delicatessen flavor. Harness your activities to one thought and action, and in due season the other things will be opened to you as beautifully as thn flowers in spring time that welcome the morn- ing's sun. The result rests within the breast of man, conquer self and the battle is won. We entreat all to foster the profoundly good traits of character, to harness their own inclinations, to harmonize all differences. In this way and manner, all true relation- ships will be accomplished and all true purposes attained. The many failures in life are accountable to self, for upon self there are so many ttt MAN SOCIALLY perplexities that none can achieve personal success in self reliance alone. The influences of men are of no avail in developing the inner senses of one's being; it can only be attained by spirit attunernent. We can not for the moment conceive of any set rule or regulation that would in any way assure any one success in attaining a high spiritual growth, but there is a way which will lead tru ly and surely, and that is through the inner ego of your being. Upon this inner ego rests your all in life; upon this inner ego rests the future of all souls in the material realms of space; upon this inner ego rests the dictating influences of power. You may falter by the wayside on the journey to the calvary of your own being, but you will conquer as the Christ conquered the things that came to Him. When spiritual inspirations commence to H7 MAN SOCIALLY come to man, it is then that a true knowledge is unfolding in its many beauties. The master pieces of Beethoven and others are marked with their character of expression, the innermost feeling being brought to the surface of an im passionate being. The outgrowth of such appeals are felt throughout the land, and the outcome of their realism are perpetual and lasting. You can reason from any angle or view point, but unless the reasoning comes from an inward expression of feeling, your deep expression will be lost, and your achievement will be defeated by lack of character. The inward impulses are marks of inward consciousness and the act of any one is the expression. An inward consciousness of right will truly bring to you an expression of the inner reality, and your character will bespeak your true self. 68 MAN SOCIALLY The note-worthy actions of all geniuses are reflected inward relationships with like entities. The genius may not be the fall, and honest being that should characterize all people, but their genius will and does denote the inner relationship they bear to a like entity. In this atmosphere of conscious realities you will find that the attractions of thought in any line will bring unto you a relationship like unto its own; yet, the individual genius will develop or show a regard for things less potent than his ingenius trend. To harmonize then all differences in one's nature is a hard matter to accomplish and takes time, much diligent thought, study and application. When you frown upon the relationship of an individual, who through want of proper culture, or for want of proper enlightenment >9 MAN SOCIALLY upon certain truths, you do not stop to con- sider the hidden potentialities that lie within, and in due season will spring forth in an awkward atmosphere of discontent. This condition you find so much in the homes of individual families, who for lack of sympathy go spell-bound upon their own line of reasoning, forgetting the growth of a mis- judged mind. You who reason with self upon any popular topic of the day must look well into the mean- ing of the subject matter, for in failing to properly diagnose the true impulse you loose your prestige and right of adjustment. In a more common language you fail to grasp the impending dangers and forestall the crafty in the hour when results could be achieved and a more restful solution prevail. 70 MAN SOCIALLY Do you think your life is all, And all else fade in time? Do you think you ne'er shall fall, And hold all life sublime? You are to give to living men, Who give and take as one, Happiness and cheer, you send, And thus your duty is done. Do not hoard your thoughts and gold, But give as you receive, A thousand fold then you have won When thus you can believe. (rive to those who need your care So all can see your light, And know your life, just and fair, Makes love shine forth so bright. 71 MAN SPIRITUALLY We do not wish to dwell upon the untruth but rather the truth, that you should know the way of divine light which beckons in a way needful to you. MEN are leaders among their fellow men but not leaders of spiritual truths; spiritual truths are of the spirit; material truths are of man. It is impossible to enter the sanctuary of the Most High until you bring your own soul in harmony with His perfection. In the course of life a progression is noted by the digressions of man, as in the primitive period when God, the Infinite Intelligence, placed the fore-fathers of your country in the material realm, thereby establishing the fact that man has fallen from his high estate. Thus you are here and from time to time you have been coming and going through the 72 MAN SPIRITUALLY agvs, until now, selfishness and egotistical pride has brought you to the money king, whereby thousands of men have been led to battle, and the fields are strewn with the dead. Every life is based upon certain principles which are true and unchangeable; this principle is Truth. Every soul is free, but error has crept in among the true, and the human family is infected with the dread of sickness and the true principle blurred and besmeared with filth and slime; yet, the true principle ever lives and the filth and slim can be blotted out and your soul become clean once more. There is no blood that can cleans you; there is no life that can die for you; therefore the slime and filth must be forever washed away. The true teachings of the Master go to show the human family that selfishness and egotistical pride are the worst forms of 3 MAN SPIRITUALLY uncleanliness, and ere you can begin to let the bright spots in your nature shine forth, you must listen to the inner voice and be led by it into the truth; but, so long as avarice and greed play their part so long will the delivering hand be withheld. The morning's dawn upon each new day sheds its light upon the morrow with the light that was born yesterday; the light you bring forth to-day will go out in history to-morrow, so day by day your impulses, desires and selfish expressions mold themselves into the gold and silver dollars of to-morrow; and, through every walk of your daily routine, no thought is ever lost nor act laid aside. The great smelter's pot is ever boiling, and the new coin is each day molded into its purchase power. The gold which you contribute into the smelter's pot is altogether of your own making, and as one of 74 MAN SPIRITUALLY God's children your efforts are counted. When the time comes for your transition, for in your Father's house are many mansions, you go and take up new duties which your daily accumulations have wrought, and cash from the smelter's pot of the material elements that which you have invested and thus pur- chase your new inheritance. Your new duties are pleasant and agreeable as were your duties pleasant and agreeable in earth life, thus you continue blending your efforts, working your way into a perfect union with the all-true life of God. To foster a true relationship with the Infinite Mind, GOD, take your daily actions to task, for each and every act is and ever will remain, until the laws of retribution and compensation are fully met, ounce for ounce, and tithe for tithe; one must offset the other. You are placed in the material life to work 75 MAN SPIRITUALLY oat the destiny of your inner self, and the Infinite Mind, God, has invested you with a body, with its millions of precious life entities whose life is as precious to them as your own is to you. Their perceptions are limited and rightly so for they rely upon you as their master for proper conduct. In all life, material and spiritual, you are co-operative beings instead of selfish individ- uals. Man should harmonize his strained relationship to meet with God's true, perfect life. When the laws of retribution and compensation are fully met, you go forth again to fight the battle of a new day and crown the hour with joy. 76 MAN SPIRITUALLY (rod's loving nature is all supreme In all things he has made; His image reflects in nature's green And life that does not fade. Your soul is His in spirit all, The reflects good and true, From your thoughts all seed fall — Your harvest then a richer hue! You reap your harvest, good or bad, Just as you will it should; Think and act, become a lad, Whose honest worth is truly good. • i MAN'S AWAKKNING The awakening era of knowl- edge brings spirits into a rela- tionship with self, and all out bursts of former existences are felt in each new advent of time. T^HE Holy Cross is a term applied to the * cross upon which the Master was cruci- fied; upon this cross was exemplified the hate and anger of the Jews, and the forgiving spirit of the Master. The crusifiction of Christ was a foreshadow- ing of the oncoming religious beliefs and dogmatic ideas of to-day; it was also the awakening of a new set of thoughts and un- sophisticated deductions. It did not usher in anything to bring about a peaceful surround- ing save the religions classified under their var- ious heads that mark the man-power of self, and who have thrust their own minds upon the ever unchanging manifestations of nature. 78 MAN'S AWAkENING Time foretells all things, and the moment man in his own interest promulgates and fosters for self alone, it is then the weak falter by the wayside. No ingenuity of man can accomplish by his own mode of thinking, because the laws of nature do not work in that groove. Natures laws are in harmony and love with her, and man being a part of nature spontaneously imbibes of her pure essences. If it were not so the whole world would be in a state of utter chaos. If man, individually, would stop long enough to forsake all else and cling to the law that is unchangeable and immovable, letting all superficial ideas forever rest in the should be forgotten past, time, money, life and property would be saved. It is wise and judicious that man should reach out and clothe his fellows in the war torn countries even though the inward 71) MAN'S AWAKENING impulses are not aroused within the breast of the donor or the receiver, and the donor in after time should be so encompassed as to have his own life impaired. In every move and action there is some degree of harmony and from it peace will come eventually. The millions of people of your land are hungry for the clean and pure truth, the true and glorious truths which sustain all right living and thinking. When you have harnessed all the forces for which you are striving, you grow day by day into higher light. Do not think for one moment, that any personal credit of man should in any way lift him above the rank and file of human endeavor; it is the inward impulses of the soul or inner-self, that will bring you higher each day in your material existence, and not a personal gratification of desire. Each and every move or action, each so MAN'S AWAKENING and every word spoken, each and every turn, springs from the dictates of your inner self. In all the walks of life you endeavor to lift a weight; it matters not how heavy the object may be, nor if it be tangible or intangible when the time comes for action you do not stop to think if the undertaking is burden- some, but start into action your thinking powers and act. The consequence is you are enabled to accomplish the desired object through your own capacity to think. The power of thought was fully known at the time of Christ for he rebuked and forgave on the eve of his crucifixion. There is a subject facing you to-day as men and women which calls for the greatest that lies within you; — thoughts created by pure and undefiled hearts. The great spiritual truths before you are of great weight and density. 81 MAN'S AWAKENING In man's awakening the material will be taken care of in the same manner as the spiritual; directors will lead in both; the two go hand in hand, and as the steps of knowl- edge and wisdom are mounted you shall climb the ascending steps of usefulness in your material walks of life. It is not necessary to sacrifice one for the other; neither should one be neglected in any event, but battle away at lifes problems in a masterly way, trusting to a continued guid- ance of a divine hand, that will lead you forward through the years to come, and direct you at each cross-road into the path of knowl- edge and wisdom. 82 MAN'S AWAKENING The moth destroys where it listeth, an unclean soul will blight where it stingeth. Life is sweet in all its essences and should be kept so by your own perceptions. The worth of well doing is in the satisfaction you attain in the action, and not by self praise. The true character of any one is in evidence when it comes to personal achievements. In research and study apply the truths that compose a com- ponent part; then proof comes that truth abides in the all per- fect in nature. You can not fathom the depth nor scope of man's capabilities along the line of right thinking, and the creation of just, true, and perfect thought entities. X8 MAN'S AWAKENING Morality is an expression of an inner consciousness of right, and the expression comes forth by the promptings of that con- sciousness. The inner light is Divine and should forever be kept in its pure state, and held in perfect unison so the material self will listen to the inner being. It is not the triangle that sends off the sound, but the action that brought it into play. If the act were never created the angle would have remained mute. In the concourse of time you should watch the progress of each and every form of life; by their actions you can com- prehend the true principles of nature. 84 MAN'S AWAKENING The true principles of nature are unerring and the result is at all times sure. Study nature in all her forms and reap for self a better understanding of the principles of life. Remain at all times true and steadfast for the God of all truth and righteousness to guide and direct your every foot-step; re- member always the true are tried in the balances of time. The true vine is known by its fruit and is nourished in the way of perceptive knowledge. It is right and just that the ways of knowledge be founded only through useful endeavor; otherwise knowledge would loose its savor and the recipient his activity. 85 MAN'S AWAKENING Idealism is a true merit; it stands as a guiding star in man's destiny and opens up to him the higher knowledge. You can readily accomplish your desires by continued appli- cation of your work in all branches of research and study. Opportunities come at various times; make the best of condi- tions and honor the dawning of more noble purposes in work- ing out your social problems. We would you should ever acknowledge the profound truths that face you as men and women, for in that acknowledg- ment you open up larger fields of useful endeavor. 86 SPIRIT COMMENT THE great world war through which you have emerged has beeu a blessing to humanity from a spiritual stand point. With all the atrocities that go with all wars of such character, there will be a ten fold return in cementing the surviving members of the great conflict closer together than it has ever been in the history of mankind. Those who have not tasted the bitter war- fare in the front line trenches, will be the last to feel for his fellow man that which will inspire the comrade by his side. Little do you know, who have stayed at home and lived in peace, the sacrifices that have gone up on Liberty's alter. Little do you know who have gone to the shops in the morning at a living wage, with peaceful surroundings, the hell and carnage that ex- isted on the battle field. All this will come home to you, and should 87 SPIRIT COMMENT cement you as a whole into one brotherhood and u One Common Cause." Man is and ever will be a complication of existences, of life essences or forces, and under such conditions can only be brought to a true understanding of his being by a continued and persistent struggle. This has been since the time of Cain and Able and will be for some time to come, but at each new era men will be brought closer together by lessons or experiences well paid for. It is not necessary to go over the past decades to show the bitter strife, prejudices, hatred, malice and greed that have entered into man's contentions; it is indelibly stamped upon your minds. Through all the past ages the contentions for which men fought, have been each time for greater and more noble principles which are spiritual. cS8 SPIRIT COMMENT The overtures for peace brought hope, and hope brought to you the realization that truth shall prevail. We would that the peace that comes to you now should be a lasting peace, but the time is not yet; the lasting peace that is to come with the fulness of His love. The peace that comes to you now comes by " National Unity," but the peace that shall rule supreme will come as a personal unity. The great things that come to man do not come spontaniously, they only come by sacrifice and long suffering; it is the order of things. The budding of the trees bring to you the approaching spring, and the full blown blossom the full frution. The tree does not sprout over night and give to you the ripened fruit at morning's dawn, nor will that uni- versal peace come by a League of Nations. The League of Nations is right and proper, 89 SPIRIT COMMENT and will be promulgated, but the universal peace, a personal peace, a united purpose is yet to come. We wish for the quickening hour, but the hauds of time only give you the result as time rolls on. The crisis in man's existence will come through trials that have marked the mile- posts of his former life. The monarchs of your land are not all wise; far from it; even the little birds that flit within your lattice and the humming bird that sips the nectar from the honeysuckle show more wisdom than they. It is rude to bring any one into censure, but in this case they are already within the lime-light and no breach of etiquette is violated. This being true why not abolish all governments that tend to protect the selfish gains of graft and greed, and establish a Universal Government that 90 SPIRIT COMMENT will make you one and the same, and not treat you as an underling. Greater activities would be the result, and the accomplishment of great good would come from a cemented nation. To sum up the whole of the govern- mental forms now in existence you find one rotten mess ! The sooner you as a Nation can come to a realization of this truth then will a quicker understanding come to the people. Many are the times when the ones in power or in an influential position can and do put beneath their feet, good, true and noble men, who for lack of proper coaching are held in restraint, and through fear, malice, hate or envy must still remain on the lower planes of existence. You will say that each and every individual must choose for himself and decide upon his own destiny; yes, it is true if you keep up the old pace by placing SPIRIT OOMMKNT all men upon the same footing regardless of birth conditions, causing an unequal inherit- ance among the unmatched mentally and physically. No, it is your duty to take care of your less fortunate brother and rob the alms houses of their inmates. A broader view of iife must enter into the portals of your existence and share with the less fortunate ones and place them in a path more congnial. There would be less crime, hatred and envy; there would be no room for it and the excessive costs of the selects would be obliterated from the minds of men. Gain in this material life is nothing but dross; it can not be taken into that broad field of everlasting unity of purposes. Open up the heart to your fellow beings to enable the great and true principles to enter in, and live with love above and beyond the narrow 92 SPIRIT COMMENT confines of material pleasures and excesses. You are truly one in spirit and in truth; the thoughts that vibrate within the realms of matter send mighty waves rolling through space, and as the tide recedes it brings to you thoughts from far off shores to help you fathom the great principles of spirit wisdom. In the same manner seasonable showers come to water the dried and parched throats of plant life. The social evils are so prevalent in your material life that the most earnest observer is at sea as to what way a reformation can be effected. To correct the evils as they now exist would require the constant application of one's energies, to enable them to be at all times in readiness to throw off the existing conditions. It behooves each and every one of you who are working in the Occult to 93 SPIRLT COMMENT wade in and stamp out the prevalent evil. Though you should fail in the discharge of this duty you would be rewarded, because your efforts would have established a prece- dent that the future would live as a monu- ment in your life's history. Sociological ques- tions are before you, pro and con, but what is the outcome to be? Because the basic principle is wrong, starting from secrecy in- stead of publicity, all will have to be gone over again. The people are peace loving but tyrany will rush into the strongholds and awaken the ire of a peace loving people. The social problems of to-day are so torn in frag- ments as to render the reforms brought about useless in a way pertaining to anything as a permanent reality. The results that follow such torn conditions are in the same degree unsatisfactory as the breaches in your indi- vidual families. 94 SPIRIT COMMENT The proud and the bigoted go together never stopping but overlooking the great principles which keep the machinery in motion. How many are there among you even in the study of the spiritual philosophy who are in accord? Few there be but such as remain, shall in the course of time harness together the great righteous truths that will prevail, and usher in the new heaven and the new earth. From the mouths of infants will come forth wisdom. Peace will be and shall be maintained. True reforms will come. A cemented unity of purpose is essential for this, and can only be attained by progression. Broader views with- in the thought processes of man are pro- gressive marks; application of these views are progressive steps; as new steps are taken you walkout of the old prejudices and selfish desires, and meet each other shoulder to shoulder in the works of mutual sympathy. 95 SPIRIT COMMENT Never retard a progressive movement, for each and every step enhances the usefulness of each and every act. The creeds of every social order are at variance, all trying to accomplish a given thing by a selfish belief; holding on to their own way of thinking and never giving credit for the views held by others. This shall be overcome in time but will take hard and bitter struggles. When this shall have passed away the door will stand ajar and a loving peace will come to each and every one. Then will dawn the new era of peace. Self preservation, the first law of nature, is true; it is like all other laws, however, it has been abused and through that abuse, envy, hate, malice, greed, selfishness and jealousy have been ushered into the life of man and is the author of so many evils prevalent in your social relations. 96 SPIRIT COMMENT On the other hand the attributes of love, patience, gentleness, kindness and charity, have been sadly neglected. If man would only open the door of his soul so the Spirit can come in for a few mo- ments of useful concentration, then love's attributes could assert themselves and a new life open up to him; a perfect peace and love divine. It is only by the study of the Occult that you can regulate the spirit environment you attract. You seldom see in your daily routine of life the activities of men; you are not in a position to know the happenings around you; you are kept in the confines of a prescribed limit. If you could embrace a knowledge of all your affairs of life at one time you would then have some conception of the Spirit's capacity to unravel the threads of life. This brings yon to a given point namely, a 97 SPIRIT COMMENT universal perception of cause and effect. If the Spirit could only come within the confines of every soul so each could see, hear, and feel its presence, then by its acknowledg- ment among men the avenues could be broad- ened and Spirit would bring much to be treasured. In turning the leaves of the past you can reckon with the plauseable, the possible and impossible, but facts remain the same when you come to reckon with the spiritual uplift and Spirit's domination in the actions of men. 98 SPIRIT COMMENT The Spirit's comment is for you, A hope, a trust, a guide To higher fields; — you must subdue Yourself what e're betide! You, yourself, the inner life, Shines forth in colors fair; Create within you light so bright, Your material life will share! And in future years to come, Calling forth your very own; You will reap beneath the sun From seeds yourself have sown ! 99 SPIRIT COUNSEL In drawing around you the en- vironment which will be best in all respects, draw unto you all the strong, — physically, morally, and mentally; by them you create power. In the physi- cal you receive strength; moral- ity will produce character; ment- ally you beget stability of pur- pose. THE philosophy which you study is at length coming into a period of its history through and by which it will mark the future spiritual doctrines and creeds; it is coming to a time when its proven fact will usher in a new condition of peace and comfort; a time when by its application men and women will be led forward to great goals of usefulness. Nothing material can live of itself, therefore the oncoming avalanche of spiritual growth will usher into your lives peace, and in its coming you will find no place for the uncanny loo SPIRIT COUNSEL objects of graft, greed, and selfishness. You should not and must not countenance any act through which the selfishness of man will be extolled, but look to the spiritual at all times, leaving all else to fade into oblivion. Why honor the man or woman who by greed and selfishness fashion themselves after their own heart. It is not right and should be effaced from your daily calendar of action; look at all times within to enable you to discern the proper course and method of your daily routine of material endeavors. Let not your hearts become weak nor tainted with the rotten slime of public opinion; it counts for naught! Why care you for the opinions of men, whose minds are poisened with prejudice and hatred, and constant grasp- ing for greed and power? It will profit you nothing to listen to the wiles of a merry- maker and the clinking of the wine cup. 101 SPIRIT COUNSEL All vices run together and at each advent will plunge the participant farther into the pitfalls of waywardness; sending forth the dangerous dragon to pull down each and every one into the depths of dispair, who will listen to its music. The sweet loving impulses that throb with- in your being for life should vibrate in unison to the whisperings of nature as it sheds its moon beams around you in the serene atmos- phere; and drink of the sweet zephyrs of nature's music in the rustling leaves. Do not bring yourself to a level of discord and discontent, but build yourself up to the highest mark possible to attain. Move and act each day in a love of unity, disregarding sects and creeds. While you may fail to grasp at all times your full duty yet through patience the crooked ways will be made straight and the pathway clear. 1()L> SPIRIT COUJSfSKL You are all His in one mighty brotherhood; going forth to show your unfolded beauty in the great time, not only in this life but in all lives to come. We honor and glorify His name through whose power and might we are ever looking and leading others to a realization of His perfect love. May each and every soul that will come within the veil, find the source through which peace will reign and love forever shine. The triumphs of many centuries have been the glories of war, each and every nation boasting in its strength; one pitted against the other, all carried on by a few in power, making the masses subservient to their will. In the time of the inquisition there were upheavals brought out in the various empires; kings, queens, and various ranks of nobility were murdered, and monarchs dethroned. 108 SPIRIT COUNSEL At this time of your history, nations have commenced to dethrone the monarchs who, by their own egotism wish to exalt themselves above all others. In this readjustment of the national families the predominating features which caused the great gulf of inexplicable details still remains. The condition above referred to is in evidence now and will be until the masses can meet man face to face with an equal share in personal and govern- mental responsibilities and liberties. It is right and just that the national families shou»ld so adjust the affairs of state that no unjust condition of the subjects could arise and flourish. There is no undertaking of great or less import but what the Spirit will share in its culmination. Tide wise and discreet men and women of to-day will investigate for themselves the reason for the workings of man; they will KM SPIRIT COUNSEL look into their lives to determine the motive that prompted them to do the things accredited to them; they will upon such search act to rectify or make good, and be spurred on to greater achievements. Every man, woman, and child, in the material life is more or less dominated by Spirit influence, who through the laws of attraction promulgate their desires and ambi- tions. By their acts the ultimate is foretold with exactness through the law of Karma. When the spirit influences through the law of attraction bring to you promptings which you can detect as lofty or the reverse then it is up to you to act, and by that act determine what future attractions will bring. When one is dominated by a spirit who wishes to run his own as well as his neighbors affairs, it is then time for the wise and judicious to balk and call for a settlement of accounts. 105 SPIRIT COUNSEL When you have done this you have called for higher help, which is ready and willing at all times to enter the life-work of every one; to promote, help, and sustain the good and true. When the help comes it makes you feel life is worth the living and you then commence to drink of the loving cup in nature. If it were only a reality that men and women would adhere to the many proverbs that have been recorded from time to time, the great underlying current of your commercial and social lives would be greatly changed for the better. To speak much to your fellow- man to-day of spiritual laws and actvities, would mean nothing to them, only myths and fancies. 1iews and opin- ions. Never try to come forward with an idea that has not stood the test, unless you can show basic principles upon which to rest your claim. Personal assertions are of no avail; the present day is one in which, generally speaking, the great masses of people have lain aside all statements from indi- viduals, or consider them only when they coincide with their own conception of things. 107 SPIRIT COUNSEL You can never attain to higher light until you are able to clear your soul of the cumbersome weight of self pride. The life line of prejudice, malice, hate, selfishness and greed shall be broken, and many useful truths will come through spirit power to man and release the shackles of discontent. The pro and con features and the sound reasoning in any given subject naturally bring to you a ground, not upon which to stand, but ground upon which foundations can be made by proper excavations. The true principles which nn- derly any staple undertaking must come from true motives and not from selfish clans. 108 SPIRIT COUNSEL In the beginning of deductive reasoning from true basic prin- ciples it naturally takes time and patience for the oncoming principles to materialize in a true proportion commensurate with the facts adduced. Do not, because of the un- settled state of conditions, reason from a false premise. Theorists are many, but to theorize with a degree of satis- faction, will depend upon your basic idea being one of sound judgment and good sense. The time has come when theory is to be lain aside, and deduc- tions made from true basic principles. <><> SPIRIT COUNSEL Only upon the foundation of deductive reasoning is one able to convince the every-day thinker of the truths that have so long lain away in the archives of superstition, fear and ignor- ance. It is well the truth of all things be known, and a true import placed upon the adduced facts. The main feature in the con- sideration of a known true fact is in its application, which is the foundation for every move- ment. Sentimental relations should not enter into the lines of en- deavor of the human family; fool-hardiness will ruin many a prospective pleasure. 110 SPIRIT COUNSEL True relationship and co- operation with any given factor will produce quietude and a peaceful surrounding. Thousands go dogmatically at a given premise with nothing but selfish motives and unjust discrimination while few pro- claim a rational and sane adjust- ment of alinations. The all true principles lie within your own nature, if you will only be true to the higher self. The great resources for the proper workings throughout the world is coming by a true align- ment of principles. These prin- ciples will gradually develop in man until they beget true thoughts through which peace- ful adjustments will come. Ill SPIRIT COUNSEL The greatest blessings that come to man, come through the avenues of self sacrifice, and patient watchfulness and good will. The cause for the actions of man are based on creative princi- ples. These principles should be such as to overcome all dog- matic ideas, cowardice and fear. Your actions should be such that you would abdicate rather than be usurped by prejudice. Wrestle from the mid-ocean of doubt, fear, anxiety and regret; the reverse is bravery, peace and consolation. The things most sought for are not chests of silver, nor gob- lets of pure gold; but glittering gems of useful knowledge and wisdom that mark the pathway of the adepts. 112 SPIRIT COUNSEL As a child walketh in simplic- ity not knowing its destiny, so should each and every mortal hearken unto the spirit within, and obey the dictation which comes to guide and direct their course. You must remonstrate with self when approached in a way that tempts you to material things; the spirit is not of this life, so sacrifices are essential to attain a tutorship in spirit philosophy. A wise person will be led by a master mind, others balk at a suggestion which in their way of thinking would bring defeat to their own achievements. 113 8 PI KIT CO UN SKI, 111 gain will not reap for you a complete success. Hearken then unto your interests, and refrain from any move that will retard your progress. Practice the law of endur- ance; it is the test through which all must pass to attain ancient wisdom. The only guide for all actions is from a consciousness of well doing, leaving self at all times at the bottom of the hill. Live for those who by their actions appreciate your every act and turn; accept nothing but good will. Never worry over any thing at all; it is useless; it only makes you uncomfortable and will never profit you any thing. 114 SPIRIT COUNSEL A sytematic course of action is preferable; by it you realize a stability that is helpful. On your coming into your own, map out your course so that you can at all times com- mand the respect of your fellows; act in a way they will recognize your worth and pull to you. In all your endeavors for peace, and the great uplifting spirit among you, look forward with an inward appreciation of love. Preserve your moral or spirit- ual self. Do not let anything come in that would in any way show signs of drawing you from true ideals. Let every action of yours be actuated with love for the uplift- men t of your brothers; let love permeate every fiber of your being, and know no fear. 15 SPIRIT COUNSKL When you are charitable, or lend a helping hand, never do so through policy; let your good works come from the heart. In the study of the Occult adhere to the law, and when the time comes to act, ACT — and in the action let love reign supreme. ] Lfi HARMONY T^HE harmony of sound depends upon the 1 vibration of proper chords; the vibrations being made by any known device for the purpose of dispensing sound. The chords so arranged create harmony so pleasing to the ear. Chords are diverted into various keys or pitches, and are so subdivided as to render the composition of music possible. These new creations form a given base which con- form to all the rules of harmony, are seientfic- ally produced. Inharmony is the result of chord displacement, and the incorrect use of the keys or pitches. When you produce inharmony you create false combinations of sound and an unpleasant sensation is felt throughout the body. Fretful and feverish anxieties only create inharmonic conditions in any one's development, be it music, art, or spiritual attunment. Inharmony then, is the lack of harmony as a perfect entity. HARMONY When the make-up of the physical body is an harmonic entity a tranquility now un- known to man will be the result. But you, as well as all others, are born — not in the harmonious atmosphere of entities — but of trammel and discord. You should realize the absolute necessity of reconstructing the entities that compose the body. Turmoil, strife, hate, malice, envy and jealousy, oppose calm judgment and meditation. Therefore become attuned to the all perfect love of the Infinite Mind, GOD. Faithfulness to duty is a sturdy trait of character; marble statues are inviting only in their beauty; symmetry comes in the living lines and not chiseled entities. The equations of light are many, and it is only by thought- ful and judicious acts one can properly assay the equation in each and every instance. IIS HARMONY The assayers of weights and measures note the discrepancies in the various modes and methods of weight, they also determine the satisfactory pound and the standard bushel; upon them rest the responsibility of correct- ing each unlawful weight and measure. Upon this ground you should assay your each and every act, and apply every endeavor in the proper line of duty. While this is written as applying in the personal yet the real and true meaning is general; the same rule applies to all because of the derelicts on every hand. You can not foster, plan, nor promulgate anything to a rightful conclusion unless you u in general" will assay each and every move based upon an equation. Your foundation then rests upon an equal application of your talents in the chosen field allotted you in life. You must therefore of necessity revert 119 HARMONY back to a brotherhood; in all lines. It may be you do not altogether understand the true meaning or import of this, but by the proper application of and a systematic study of the material conditions of life, and the intellectual attainments of men, you will be enabled to grasp the true meaning herein intended. Prophetic visions come to the human race by the process of thought action, and can be relied upon when the perceptive organs have been so developed that the intellect can understand the various complexities of the subconscious self. The field in which you are to immerge is of such vast importance it will behoove all to reckon upon each move in order to under- stand the foundation upon which their spirit- ual structure is to be erected. The safe guard to any one's career is at all 1*20 HARMONY times to regard the efforts as the best that could be done at the time and place; when that shall have been done, you have created within yourself a knowledge that ignorance alone is the stumbling-block, and can be effaced from the calendar by a close study of the errors of one's calculations. You who study to learn and know, begin to reach into the depths of nature to bring forth the beautiful harmony in all life; you ascend in and through the great mists of nature, and harness around you loving thoughts that reach into the great expanse of time and reveal the great unseen of every phase of life. The usefulness of your endeavors will be shown; multiplied results will follow your efforts; your trust will be complete and endur- ing; accomplishment will be the aftermath of the drawn cleaver. 121 HARMONY Your protection is from higher sources; your stability is in the tree of knowledge; the branches are strongholds of learning; the leaves are the chapters. Make use of the time allotted to you; you need each passing moment. Gro out in strength and reap the harvest; the weak drag by the wayside; the useful harness the strong efforts of the will. Success will be your portion and the masses will reap great benefits. There is a time in every life from the entry into the material sphere until the going out of it, that the question of immortality is pres- ent before you; and the question will remain so long as malice, hate, envy and jealousy have not been conquered; it will cling, and you will take it into that great beyond with the same personality that characterized your coming into this material sphere. 122 HARMONY At the present, in the study of self, block out all thiogs that tend to draw you from your fellows, and replace them with loving entities that ever flow from the Master's bounty. By the proper application of the laws of nature all things are possible, con- sequently the assertion "all things are possi- ble with God." The lesson you learn from the oneness of power is; life, which is love, springs from the soul's living waters, and as you drink from the loving cup, you by your own action cement yourself into one common cause. Do not accept trutli unless your acceptance come from the heart; you can not fool your- self. God can not be cheated. The only way the influx can come, is by yourself striking the trial balance. Life is worth the living; why not rather reap the harvest of truth than let it perish by the way. 123 HARMONY Teach truth when once you have it, for patience and perseverance are the roads through which truth will come, and only by your own efforts will it be attained. Study nature's laws; you are the crowned work of nature, and no better subject can be had for research. By placing yourself in conditions in which the laws of nature are complied with you receive connection with the Spirit realm, and through the laws of nature Spirit can teach and lead you in paths of eternal truth. You are not all constituted the same, nor all measure the same in a social scale, but nevertheless you are Men and Women, and as such can pass and repass; leaving station and mentalities as markers on the great high- way of life. This is done through the avenues of love; the best illustration is "mother's love." 124 HARMONY By holding that regard for each other, and upholding truth as the mother cares for her babe, you will automatically fulfill the law of love, which is the parent law of nature. The alms houses, the sick and afflicted, the consumptive, all ills would banish, and in their stead would come forth the strong in body and mind. Prosperity and peace would come, not to a few, but to all. Reverse your steps to that which mother love leads you, and you go into the wiles of selfishness, greed, and all kindred thereto that bring millions to a few, but to the populace pestilence and poverty which you see on every hand; this is taking from the law and is known as error. On looking into the realms of existence and finding true love seekers in the domain of trial and turmoil, it awakens within the breast a feeling of acute pleasure. The return qualities in one's nature 125 HARMONY is sweet indeed, and brings to man flowers to bloom ^unseen; and the sands of time reveal pearls stored away in the archives of one's nature. In your progress in the material life an un- selfish love for your fellows will make you true seekers and lead you into the great truths of His kingdom, and the attributes of the Soul will be poured out upon you as becom- ing His will. In each vineyard of life there is a keeper, each keeper has his flock and each flock has duties to perform. In all work there is toil; -in all toil there is labor; and from labor comes results. In all life there is strength; in all stength there is power. In all thought there is knowledge, and in all knowledge there is wisdom; in all wisdom there is love; in all love is devotion; in all devotion there is harmony. 12(i HARMONY In harmony there is symmetry of motion and grace of action; in all action where grace abounds there will be found expressions in art. You beget by your actions the beauty of all nature — grace of action. How lovely then must be the brotherhood of spirit when they partake of life's loving essences, supreme and bountiful from the table of His love. 127 MAN'S DEVELOPMENT THE outgrowth of any life is measured by its own activity; — not meant by the hustle and bustle of every-day life and things, but the keeping around you all those pure conditions that alone suffice to lead you safely onward. It is best to eliminate any element that could in any way call from you actions that would pull you away from your true ideals. We recognize in all true philosophy that faults or false premises are obliterated and only the pure essences remain. It is true in the make-up of any individual that in order to attain the highest and attune yourself to the true and good, you should foster nothing that would cause you to retro- grade. The old fetters are hard indeed to shake from one's being, but by constant appli- cation of deep seated principles, your actions can become true and undefiled. We are with you in this to enable you to 128 MAN'S DEVELOPMENT conquer the conditions of unrest, which can be done within your own heart, by not letting it encroach in any way upon another. Only be tranquil and joyful, looking ever to purify all things with which you come in contact. The intrinsic worth of your soul is the value you yourself place upon it. No soul or spirit cau appraise a soul's value save its own; the worth of a soul can not be counted in dollars and cents — money can not represent the soul's intrinsic value. The soul is the life of all forms of existences; each soul is hinged to another just as the tight and loose gears of an engine or motor; unless the respective parts are properly ad- justed the life of the motor is in jeopardy, the same applies when you over or under reach your capabilities. You are wise in the hour when obstacles hinder your progress to call upon the 29 MAN'S DEVELOPMENT Great Creator of all life and love; — often in- deed comes the time in your life when you need counsel and advice from the purest source. We come to encourage your endeav- ors and help you surmount the difficulties that lie before you. We recognize every pure and wholesome motive and encourage and help you forward in your march to attain the true and noble to which all in material life or Spirit realm should strive. We do not harness the forces of nature to turn into ad- verse action any meritorious proposition, but on the other hand encourage and help an on- ward movement. We do not come just to while away the time, but we do come to make each moment of time a moment of usefulness time so spent will result in a fully progressive movement in greater and higher fields of thought action. We come in those moments of refreshment 180 MANS DEVELOPMENT to help you master the prevailing conditions and launch all faithful workers in a unity of purpose that will count in the on-coming years. We console you in the fact that there was never a great and important undertaking launched without opposition. Sometimes you think you see and realize the infinite beauties but the half has not been revealed. May your onward movement be for home and country, and your achievements the relief (-f many. Good traits of character do not come of themselves, they are born within and made manifest in your good works. Prosperity awaits your future; prosperity of love, of conscience, and the various avoca- tions. Progress is only a matter of time it depends upon the relation one action bears to another. 31 MAN'S DKVKLOPMBNT If by neglect and contrary thought you allow yourself to wander, it is surely made manifest. But should you by reflection and thought harmonize conditions to yourself then action will become swift and success certain. The treasures of the unseen are as the prec- ious stones of earth; few possess them; few secure the treasures of the Infinite GOD. There are a few chosen, but upon that few rest the responsibilities. In all organizations there are those who have no lawful right to their seat in the council; the unfortunate sometimes happens and you must abide the circumstances. Hail the truths as given with the appreciation to which they are due, for in them lie hidden treasures. The outgrowth of your under- taking is a demonstration of the amount of energy and interest taken in the project. 182 MANS DEVELOPMENT You should harness all your energies and ambition into action so that the true nature of your work can go forward in such magni- tude that you can scarcely realize your progress. You should never waver or take a backward step, but hue to the right and left, enabling greater things to come. You look to the right you see the violet and the rose, to the left the columbine; look- ing forward you see the daisy, backward you see the fallen weeds and thistles. When you shall have emerged from the entanglements of thorny, thistles, rubbish, and all forms- of discontent, then you rise high indeed, and come to the fields of usefulness. The open door is the only way whereby light can come to you; this open door is the true way of all peace and comfort. You cannot come to the loving play-grounds nor the smiling orchard, the great parks of MAWS DEVELOPMENT evergreen, and the kindred pleasures of nature unless you first come to a realization of the love that permeates all forms of life. This love is of the great and true God, of whom you are a part; and when that love within you comes forward, the light comes in at the open door and sheds its ray around each loving impulse; then your love goes out to all nature and to God. By Him the light is directed on its mission and blesses the human race, just as the perfume of the rose and violet enter the nostril, and sends a thrill of pleasure to the senses. The love you shed from your daily life, directed by the Divine Will or Spirit light finds its receptive soul and lodges within its breast. Is not this love far better than the love which comes from the closed door — locked within — selfishly hoarded within its chamber, to become stagnated and poluted by 1:14 MAN'S DEVELOPMENT selfish desires and motives, to burst forth in all its repugnant forms, led by the spirit of darkness and blight, stinging where itresteth! Many good and noble souls have been crushed beneath the wheels of such engines of death. But the loving Father comes with en- couragement and shows to you the sweet fragrance of the innocent flower, and you try again to throw from you the shackles and open the door a little, so the Divine ray may come within. This yon do when you come together as a whole, children of the Most High, calling unto Him, that the Spirit of light and love may come and lead you into a perfect day. The resources in one's nature lie in a true alignment of justice, making all things equal. When you digress au untrue alignment follows, and error compounds itself. 13j MAN'S DKVKLOPMKNT When yoa as men seek to help and sustain each other it will become the interest of each to be charitable and bring comfort, peace, and contentment. We allow that each and every member of the human family can and will become recon- ciled to the rights of his fellows, and be chari- table in every undertaking. When one will play his part under fire he is usually certain to maintain an equilibrium in times of peace. A thoughtless gesture, an uncharitable word spoken, an unkind thought sent upon its mission, will bring back manifold devil- ment. Let your words, gestures, and thoughts be clean so that the bulwark may be impreg- nable. The pure and clean are enduring, while filth and slime pass away. All things are good until transgression comes, then we perceive the wrong. 136 MAN'S DEVELOPMENT To live by a true principle is to be stead- fast and firm. Do not in the least accept any station in life upon which is tied strings to be pulled at will. Let the conditions come straight from the shoulder. Take your time, for in the time you think all is gloom and dispair, we come with true principles. With a true understanding and a cheerful smile you walk forth in true esteem. The proper way to arrive at a definite con- clusion is to determine within your own mind as to your love attachment and admiration for the objective goal; then set in motion forces to bring such an attachment, and bend your energy to accomplish your aim. In formulating or working out any object, ever keep in mind your purest and cleanest motive; if you should sacrifice, never sacrifice principle. The inner-self is your all; should you sell your inner-self, then L3 J MAN'S DEVELOPMENT you barter your all, when you barter your all, then nothing remains. We come to you as a consoling factor; with assurances that you can work out that which you hold so dear, and your progress will be in keeping to your energy expended. We enter your material life and prosper you commensurately with the interest you take in the establishment of truth. How many times we wish to come to men of various mental calibers, but on our coming find the door closed and the avenue blocked. If the heart be an open one we can spread upon the minutes of the everlasting docu- ments, evidences of the invisible. We enter your life and measure the dis- tances with care and precision; we shall not err therein, and you shall receive the true inward workings of the everlasting truth. God's hand leads in all that is good and l^x MAN'S DEVELOPMENT true and fosters the movements of deep, sincere and progressive thinkers, who will come forth with knowledge of the Truth made known, and pour forth the oil that will burn in the hearts of men. Do not be dis- couraged but go forth and strive to establish the law. Do not hearken unto the crafty, the self- styled critic, but unto the true in heart; their knowledge will become wisdom, and their love will be the cement of nations. ra* ^ ):\\) MAN'S DEVELOPMENT Oil! men of earth, who seldom care, Won't yon think and earnest be; See the future bright and fair, A home built in eternity. Every spirit will welcome you, Man of earth, a welcome guest; Thou true and tried in nature's hue, One of many God hath blest. God's blessings fall on every man, In just proportion to his work A living fount in every land, Man stands alone, no duties shirk. Sow your seed in fertil soil, Among the hills and valleys dear; The harvest will repay your toil; Place faith in God and never fear. 140 MAN'S PROGRESSION In obeying the impulses of the soul it is understood the student has accomplished the study assigned to him and to that extent he reckons from whence the impulses come to guide him. GRAVE mistakes are often made by the improper use of facts; when thus ap- plied untruth is the outcome and your basic principle is chauged. Do not divert a true principle because of the treacherous outcome of a false hypothesis. A mind full of light relative to the scientific use of the basic truths will bring more pleas- ure in the application of the law than the com- bined pleasures gained by a rollicking mind of an untrained youth. You make no mistake when you learn the lesson of patience, for patience is the watch 141 MAN'S PROGRESSION set for the too eager. Take your time and have patience, and you will achieve that which is in store for you. Do not be frustrated by idol folly, but on the other hand be brave, earnest and true, without a fear for the out- come of things. The morning-glories open their mouths in the early morn to drink in the refreshing dew; so should you be patient in abiding your time, to enable you to better drink the nectar from the Living Fountain. In accepting the Spirit, the emissary of the Most High, you cement the loving bond of fellowship with the Father of all light and love. " Have Patience." Your will is all sufficient, and should you keep yourself clean, then without fear you can face all obstacles that arise to stop you from attaining your true purpose. To correct the faults you find within your- 14: MAN'S PROGRESSION self is no easy task and often requires help and counsel to overcome them. The common assertion, "I inherited it from my father" will find no sympathy within the minds of those who study the Occult; the fault lies within yourself, and can only be overcome by an honest desire to return to that all perfect love. There is nothing in all nature that we have any record of that comes spontaneously, it only comes in time. All who wish to acquire the Occult powers inherent in man must have patience. Through the law of attraction you secure such help from Spirit as your desires or prayers attract, God's laws are unchangeable and immovable giving equal justice to all His children. It behooves you then through the avenues of love to comply with all of Love's attributes. 143 MAN'S PROGRESSION Love is all essential to man; the more yon possess the greater will be your achievements. The law of love does not only permeate all principles of Spirit wisdom, but is handed down to man through the great beaming avenues of useful philosophy. Man decorated with the flowers of Spirit essence can purify the atmosphere with a loving presence of peace. A man's well developed career, earnest and full of love, be- tokens a remarkable future, restrained only by the opportunities and environment around him. The great principles of love and mercy are the true promptings of an inner consciousness; these great principles are the underlying foundations upon which rest the great and true. How could you with- out the essentials, love and mercy, make any headway in or progress in any branch of endeavor? All attempts would be vain, 144 MAN'S PROGRESSION Without a true meaning backing up your desire, the result would be anything but the pure sweet essence of Divine Light. The beaming avenues of Divine Light are only dimmed by negligence of the thoughtless. In the beginning you see how all things materially have laws; laws that are unchang- able and through those laws flourish and live. Christ's word that u God is a Spirit and in Him you live, move, and have your being" proves that you are spiritual entities, so- journing in material life upon the earth plane. Measure your distances well and make each goal without a halt; it is the halts that thwart you: you must not waver in the least, but bend forth every nerve and effort of your being. Do not listen to the wiles of the thoughtless individual. It is folly and unwise to try and counsel or in any way convince a skeptic in the way L45 MAN'S PROGRESSION of a progressive movement. The untrained youth is an awkward piece of machinery, unyielding; never placing their energies the same place twice; ignorance is likewise uncanny. When you look over the fields of usefulness, made so by progressive elements, you see the uncanny objects of ignorance, superstition, doubt, and the elastic belts of unrest. You see where the enlightenment of the ages has many times been torn asunder and the pitfalls of an individual trust in self by holding their own enlightenment an all sufficient guide. Your efforts are by no means futile, your accomplishments shall be your banner, and true flag. The banner shall unfurl and bring each and every one into a loving union. This bond or fellowship shall, and will be a permanent one, far reaching and enduring; 14H MAN'S PROGRESSION taking- within its confines the many great that go to make up the ever progressive move- ment of time. This bond shall cement you in a. great and noble work, bringing forth good in its season, and lending to many a helping hand in the hour of need. This can and will be accomplished within the true confines of right and justice; graft and greed will be unknown, but brotherly deeds of un- selfish love shall prompt the inner-self to act in a bond of unity. The way is opened and all shall attain to its true state. We are with you in this move and you shall prosper by the true light. While you are in the confines of the material elements it is natural you should bend every effort to bring all that is good and true within your sphere. Open up the fields for greater thought while they are yet unfertile; MAM'S PROGRESSION It would be foolish to sow the seed upon barren ground. The outcome of such an ac- tion would be nothing, only wasting the energies that lie within the seed; retarding the great onward march. Much depends upon those who go into the research and shoulder the responsibility to dispense truth to their fellows. The earnest- ness and persevering energies shall not die, but ripen into golden fruit. Do not hoard wealth as a selfish life will store it, but invest it to its greatest worth — you will cause it to bring forth its fruit in its season. Be ye as one of the true, having the sweet savor of usefulness, harmony and love. The future will call and the loved ones will answer; yea, in the still morning before the sun shall rise, the true shall garner their loved ones while the sluggard frowns in mockery. I -is MAN '8 PROGRESSION The essays of previous times have been up- on subjects that in no way reflect the Spirit's ambitions and desires upon the lives of men and women. To-day there is much being said pro and con relative to Spirit communica- tions with the spirits of the earth plane. How reasonable does it seem to you to say there are no communications as claimed and now being given? It is preposterous to even think there is a possibility of its not being true. Facts are things but not always truth; so we say it is a truth that the great gulf of death has been spanned and the inner-light is shin- ing forth and coming into every soul. So strong is the light shining it comes with- in the material elements, pushing them aside and making its way to the human vision. How glorious it is when you view the light at a distance, and at close range how beauti- ful to have the light reveal to you its identity. L49 MAN '8 PROGRESSION Will you receive the light of truth? Will you reach for the law that governs the cosmic consciousness of matter? Will you ask for the great upbuilding truth that will break the yoke and make you free? Why not assemble into a great alliance, wherein the words may fall gently and with a sweet peal upon the path that leads unto a perfect peace. Yea, you will, and peace will come; it will show you a way, which is a broad intellect, free from the powers of gross neglect, which cause prejudice, malice, hate, envy and greed. When you can receive the dictations that come from within, then it is that men and women can launch out into a new spiritual self, ready to grasp the great truths that fall from the Master's table. When once you gain or attain a true basic principle, the within will draw that truth — its affinity unto it, and as little children you 1">0 MAM'S PKOGRESSIOM are led into the path of righteousness by the Divine influx of love. No wonder Christ told them "suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God." It is lofty and pure for any one to call upon those who in their own loving con- science wish to help, lead and direct, with an ever pure and clean motive. The transparency of life is as the pane of glass, so thin is the veil the Spirit can perceive your every movement, and thought at will. Come then to a realization of God's fulness because of His purity. The all-righteous and omnipotent God is the same all creative God, — Love. Hearken then unto the pure in heart, for they will lead and direct you, that your heart may be clean also. The great truth in nature, which is love MAN'S PROGRESSION surmounts and stands above every thing There is nothing in nature that does not respond to love. The love you hold for the welfare of your fellows and the love which God holds for you will cement your every wish in keeping with Divine attributes. In order that you may come out of chaos, which is " now," work only through the opera- tions of Divine love. If Divine love was para- mount and supreme to-day there would be no need, for development, the ultimate would have been already attained. You can not attain it now nor in the years to come except through the all-perfect love. Therefore the little snatches or glimpses of His kingdom have from time to time been shown as the love of the Divine flows into your being. We know of a truth, and recog- nize conditions play their part and have their weight, either to draw back or to promote. 15 MAN'S PROGRESSION You as men and women must put forth every effort to establish conditions for Spirit recognition and the accomplishment of your own personal achievements. We recognize the truth; much depends in Spirit upon the culmination of any known desire; — you shall have the co-operation of Spirit in proportion to your efforts materially. The Spirits domain lies within the hearts of men; each and every soul sends forth its own desires, — the greatest of all battles is be- ing fought and won. The battle is going on, — a long siege, — but ere peace will come there will be within the breast of man the cemented nations of men. The avenues to peace are knowledge and wisdom; the resting places are built of love. All this is coming to man if he could only see it. Then let patience and trustworthiness be your guide and strength. 1 53 SPIRIT TEACHING Your growth spiritually Bhould be prompted by actions of the inner-self, where all en- lightenment is born, and brought forth by loving regards and deeds to your fellows, dis- regarding self altogether. HPHE prosecutions of war and peace are * emanations from individuals who by their aggressiveness wish to promote the progress of certain sections and apply all to themselves. In the present routine of daily activities the tradesmen look to the greatest possible profit upon their wares, and the purchaser pays the price. Whenever the opportunity arises the purchaser will in turn place upon his fellows an equal tax to offset the trades- man's excess profit. In all walks of life to-day you find the people eager and anxious to come forward 154 SPIRIT TEACHING with marks of personal esteem and a record of successful dealings, anxious that the rewards of their labor be placed in the archives of their own personal coffers. You will find those also who in their eager ness for success gloat over their own shrewd- ness and idolized personality. You will also find those who in mediocre circumstances contribute their success only to a set rule of action. The successful man of the hour to- day, in the public eye, is he who has achieved a financial position in the wake of business. The way is broad, however, and the prospects brighter, for an opening of broader views within the human mind. Prosperity and success are achieved by the economic functions of the mind and the proper application of your endeavors. There are none at the present time who in their endeavors seek a true relationship one 155 SPIRIT TEACHING with another; even those in the study of Spirit philosophy do not realize the true meaning of a cemented and a perfected brotherhood. Never let doubt nor fear enter your portal, but press forward in a way that will ac- complish for you many blessings, and you attain a restful contentment. Let each and every act be of a firm nature; never stop to consider why it is thus, because the workings are such no one in material life can understand and know. Never look back- ward upon the things past, but forward to the things of the future; the future is what tells the tale; the past has already done its mischief. The misfortunes that so often beset you are only repetitions of the past under similar circumstances, not having ad- vanced far enough to enable you to throw the conditions to one side. lf)<> SPIRIT TEACHING Each and every life is placed in the bal- ances and graduated by their fitness in the social problems. When they are so chosen they are at their best; at a time when by their actions they can make their future a progressive or retarded movement, mediocre or altogether a stand still. We can not con- ceive of anything greater than a true man or woman, save the creator of that entity. The work-shop of a true man or woman is laden with much toil; unceasingly they work hand in hand together, developing, laying-out, and fostering the great principles that under! y the massive structures of public utility. Under these conditions movements are made not only in the material life, open to public opinion and scrutiny, but also in Spirit. From Spirit all things are born and enter the material arena and move their actions in right doing by will. ifi SPIRIT TEACHING Each season of the year bring to you new ideas and creations; also movements are brought into action seemingly too fast for man to comprehend; in this manner truth is halted for a moment only in its travel through the avenues of time. It is your duty and should be your aim to grasp all the great truths that come to you. In so doing you open the gates of enlightenment just a little further and receive the good tidings. Master minds are made by those who realize that upon them rest great undertakings, and to abridge or lay aside the opportunity wastes many jewels of priceless value. The master mind of all questions is a mind whose master — Truth — is the controlling factor. You never find a master whose mind is at vari- ance, and whose inclinations are nn staple. In the make-up of a master mind three principles are absolutely essential. 158 SPIRIT TEACHING First, you must know yourself. Second, act yourself. Third, be yourself. By being acquainted with self the avenue upon which you are to travel will be revealed; when you have thus found the way helpers will be plentiful and continuous. They will not be a body politic to rule and control you and your efforts, but workers the same as yourself, who like you have found the way, and as a single unit you work together in a perfect unity of purpose. The trouble with the human family to-day is, the first condition is abandoned altogether; men and women embark upon the pathway of life upon the two remaining conditions; thereby heaping upon themselves devastation and ruin. So they come to a realization that the path is wrong, or there is a connecting link which if supplied would heal the breach. Many times they are deluded in the belief 159 SPIRIT TKAOHING that faith is the only connecting fiber; hope sustains them to go forward in their blind way to be cast ashore by ignorance. The human family is peculiar. It has been led and directed into so many paths that reason has become clouded by this and that theory, until it is hard to extricate itself from superstitions and doubts. While the scales of life are so unevenly balanced, it takes judgment, forethought, and self sacrifice, in order that a new life may shine through each and every soul. When you shall have conquered the con- ditions that now surround you, then it is, you have mastered self and made for a true un- derstanding of the will of Him whom we love. Lay aside all personal desires and take instead the welfare of all people upon a foot- ing of equal rights and justice. If an unfortunate succumb by your side, lf)0 SPIRIT TEACHING forget self and look forward to the relief of such an one; consider the welfare of each and every individual, making them as comfortable as yourself by blending your natures into an harmonious whole. Individually and collectively you should plunge into life's work and push forward with an unselfish love, pride, and joy, in your alloted work. Nature with her refreshing dew sprinkles the flowers and bathes them with the elixir of youth through the power of its refreshing essence. So should you as a part of nature look to the comfort of your less fortunate brother, and place him, too, in a position where his soul can drink of the sweet nectar from love's fountain. Moreover the fruits are many when they partake of the fountain inexhaustable. Truth and knowledge go hand in hand and embrace wisdom. Hi] SPIRIT TEACHING Wisdom i3 the fountain from which &U may drink if they will. Many perils await those, who through neg- lect and undue consideration, pass by the fountain of knowledge, little dreaming of the precious draughts of delight that will quench their thirst. When you perceive aright then you are brought into harmony with the Infinite. You should ponder over this, for in the near future, developments will come, and the great love which yon can not realize now will come and strengthen you a thousand fold. The future is great and glorions; the moon- beams shed their light upon the path-way, and the sun marks the path for a fruitful day. Be steadfast that the honor may be well be- stowed, for in that hour you have peace. You may prosper in ways of useful en- deavor and application of knowledge; you 162 SPIRIT TEACHING may prosper in every undertaking materially; and at the same time be an utter failure. Honesty is the underlying support upon which your institutions should be built; see to it that the foundations are sound and sufficiently strong. The world to-day is for the good, and the ways of justice should open up to you new paths of freedom. Worship then that which is pure and good, a something that will make you better and enable you to garner in love; for the love that abideth will remain as the refreshing dew drops that loose themselves in the rays of the beautiful sun; so should you loose yourself in the knowledge of His glory. In the wake of years and cycles of time, the ever progressive Spirit is at all times aspiring to greater things, things eternal. The best thing u pon earth is the satisfaction SPIRIT TEACHING within yourself you are doing the right at all times. The next best thing is a desire sincere to always do the right. The next best thing is to forestall any influence that would lower yourself in the estimation of others. The truth is this, you nor any one else can not fulfill any of the above unless you first make yourself a sympathetic individual. Just as the flowers and the trees bloom, and the atmosphere wafts the fragrance over the land, so should you love your dear ones, and place the cloak of comfort around each mortal. Be brave, true, noble and pure, refreshing to all you meet; the open door is sure and the acknowledgment certain. Refreshing comfort is accorded those who strive with honest purposes in view; it brings rest to the weary; it enhances their worth in the scale of achievements. 164 SPIRIT TEACHING The great and good of all nature does not intend your life be beached upon the sands of time, but it is the far reaching intent in nature's scheme that the accumulation of all energy shall at some time be revealed to fur- ther progress for the upliftment of man. Materially and spiritually you drink of the living waters, and receive from it the bitter or the sweet as you mold your bodies in harmony. You must not judge ere you be judged, nor exact where you can not give, for your prosperity lies within the merit of your own endeavors. You should be firm and immove- able, so the banner can unfurl and wave to the oncoming breezes; should you waver in well doing then the banner will sway to one side. Nothing gives more pleasure than the assured outcome of one's endeavors. We never forget the toils under which true n;.-) SPIRIT TK ACHING seekers of light are subjected in the cominer- cial life of selfish and egotistical fellowship. The influences that attack each and every true seeker of light attract us to the babes in the woods, and while they toil unceasingly they gain strength; when the oncoming attack reaches them again the babes are little youngsters who by their very presence defy each and every effort to efface them from their place in the social realms of light. The sturdy, steadfast and true, gradually build around them the wall of security, and are sealed as a unit within a perfected brotherhood. So we mold you into a perfect oneness with the Divine Love and through His all Divine essence, hold at bay all who by their efforts try to molest and destroy your good works. You as mortals in the flesh are subject to conditions in life made by the may decades HW SPIRIT TEACHING of teaching, training, waywardness, and the disregard of any prescribed law which in your own personal opinion was not correct; and, on the other hand took from you your own right of self-esteem. To safeguard against this, you who wish to study the subject before you, will come to- gether in a brotherhood of kind deeds and noble thoughts for each and every one in life's vineyard. In the study of immortality you should weigh your talents in the balance to deter- mine the best adaptation for the problems of life for which they are best suited; to enable you to gain the most for your individual self, and at the same time be prime factors in the establishment of peace. Gather around the festive board ready to gather the crumbs which the Master will give unto you. and conform your life to the Spirit Lti SPIRIT TEACHING teaching as it is given which is not incompati- ble to the ever increasing necessity for a pure sweet and undefiled life. (-rod being Spirit all creations of his hand are spiritual; emanations, and reflections of Spirit's thought. The reflections cast by the sun upon the earth change each hour, minute, and second of time, the reflections of Spirit change like- wise; but, as the great sun comes forth in the morning in all its freshness, so does the Spirit cast its reflections at the dawn of each new day. Will you conform your life to harmonize with (rod's will and so harmonize your mater- ial conditions to enable you to attract unto yon the best in the material elements? To conform your life to that which is per- fect and good, is the inmost desire of all souls; the way has been obscured however; but the true way will soon be known unto you, and 108 SPIRIT TEACHING the little toddling tot will be able to crawl in the Master's vineyard. The memory is as everlasting as the soul or Spirit is eternal. Your knowledge is as your capabilities lie, and your wisdom as your knowledge justifies. Your memory likewise comes as your en- vironment calls it into action. In the pathway of life your condition, your position, your action, your desires, and all such come within the scope of one's make-up and have their bearing. The personality of each and every soul or Spirit is as the reflection; singles, doubles, and quadruples until the ultimate is attained. The all great factor is to harmonize that entity into a perfect form. Thus you work for days, years, and cycles of time, coming at each advent into a stronger atmosphere, breathing a unity of purpose 169 SPIRIT TEACHING until you shall have achieved the ultimate. In your progressive movements memory plays its all important part, — not as a harbin- ger of past unpleasantness but as a guiding star to a better future. As you sow and reap it is evident you have sown the past, and are passing to some- thing new. At each new event in this path it is always hoped your experiences are good and your memory failing you not; you are naturally fitted by wise and judicious acts to shun the pitfalls into which you have previously plunged. Repetitions are inexc useable, such an occasion will call forth anxiety and fear lest the new repeat the old, and you are shelv- ed on the ledges of discontent. Memory is to you a blessing and not a curse; you can forgive but not forget; memory will not yield up its own when a thing is 170 SPIRIT TEACHING forgiven, while the unforgiving will usher in the memory of the past. Memory is a teacher wise and true, whose finger points to new problems and erases the past from the slate. In the harvesting when you reap the sow- ing, may the memory be pleasant and the treasure sweet. All life being eternal, as God is eternal, you carry with you an individuality, and in recall- ing to your memory instances in your life as- sociated with others whom you knew in the past, living or dead, your individualities usher in the environment that awakens the memory. By proper concentration you are enabled to develop the senses of your body to the extent that you can see, hear, feel, taste and smell more acutely, and what is known to you as the inner-sight, or the powers of the soul. By this inner-sight or the powers of the 171 SPIRIT TEACHING? soul you are enabled to perceive the spirit intelligences of your loved ones in the Spirit or material, as the stronger in nature predominates. Thus truth is spread open before you. There will be much said in the future as to memory, its loss, partial retention and restora- tion. The momory works under the material laws the same as all creation; through the ever unchanging law and principle. In the human body as it is constructed there is a constant building up and tearing down process going on, due to the fact that its construction is of such a nature that the life entities composing the body are not at any time of the same vibratory action; while some are intensified others are retarded. You are therefore never at all times at the same equilibrium. Under the laws that exist there is a reckoning and the stronger rules. SPIRIT TEACHING If you be the master of your household, you will hold the life entities that compose your body to be subservient to your will. If on the other hand you become the servant then a pow-wow will surely follow. What do you call this pow-wow? All bodily ills, both mental, moral, and physical. On being controlled by the life entities that compose your body it is possible for you to loose your memory, or the faculty through which you become cognizant of an act while in the body. In this change the perceptive organs have become impaired, they do not work as before, your past is forgotten, and your name gone. Upon your recovery you start anew upon the pathway of life to learn again, subject to another attack at any future time when the conditions of the life forces will again hold you in their grasp. SPIRIT TEACHING Memory! oh, blessed truth, Thy gems are precious stones. Fervently I treasure all, — forsooth, For thee my soul atones. In the glittering strands are lain The memories of time; Exiled by the ancients, twain, To nature's life sublime. I can recall the yesterdays, The mornings, noons, and nights; The great and glorious lustre rays Are spread before my sight. Memory thou leadest me Through all the trials of life; You point the way to be free, And relieve me of all strife. 174 SPIRIT TR ACHING The orthodox way of thinking and the Catholic doctrine of being the only true church is one way to beat the devil around the bush. To take for self and self alone the sweets that come through Spirit manifesta- tion, and barter it by the yard or pound is another way to let the devil run loose among the masses. Spirit manifestations are nothing to the great Christian faiths of to-day, but in a few years their yearning will turn to sorrow. The question then boils itself down to a few facts, and the responsibility rests upon the shoulders of a few broad minded think- ing people who are not hemmed in by hatred, malice, envy, graft or greed; but who by their own make-up are pure and out-spoken, and — shall foster, plan, and promulgate that which is wholesome and reasonable, and dispense the truth that shall stand the tests of time. SIM KIT TEACHING Through them the door will swing open* and the darkest night will be made day. The religions of to-day do not accomplish any definite good by a division of ideas as to the proper road or roads to take to reach the goal in the shortest possible time. The old dogmas have been preached and woven into the lives of so many they feel they lower the dignity of Deity by associat- ing His name with a practical hypothesis of the results of cause and effect. They do not give any thought as to the power of thought in forming and developing the ])lans of the Great Spirit. In Him you live, move, and have your being; an off-spring of the Most Lovely, all-pure and good. Why should any one arraign themselves against life which is all love: They not only make hypocrites out of themselves but are killing their own souls by the practice:; 176 SPLtUT TKACHIlNG distroying all comfort, and a consciousness of a loving God. Pour out loving thoughts, for it was by those thoughts that all things were founded. The culmination of any effort is shown in the reality, and its true worth is the outcome of that effort. As the laws of God are im- mutable it devolves upon you to apply the law to determine if the result be a blessing or a curse. The progressive march shall ever be, and the forward march will teach man his place, his power, and his God. In summing up the great achievements wrought by man of the present, it is safe to say the greatest of them will not compare with the achievement that is in store for a leader that iu a few years is to come. The great builders of your country have been nothing but toys compared to this great comprehensive mind that shall ere long 1 77 SPIRIT TEACHING astound the world and nations in the great forth coming avalanche of truth. The master tongues will not be able to argue, nor fathom the scope, breadth and depth, of this great leader of men. Only the masters who in their thirst for knowledge forsake all and hunger for the wisdom that is given unto the wise shall un- derstand him. A limited number are they who through great struggles have come to an understand- ing of Love and as a healing balm wrap the wounds made fresh and succor the unfortu- nate. They who foster the peaceful situation to-day are those who in their own egotism would set aside the principles of a true unity, and again go forward to conquer or ruin. May the hours roll on and the quicken- ing spirit melt the hearts of the thirsty thieves ere the mischief is done, and new 178 SPIRIT TEACHING graves are opened to receive their dead. May you cast aside the frivolous follies, and the marvelous outgrowth of man's in- genuity; they will count for naught in the over powering evidence that shall pile up and the world of nations will bow in reverence. The unpleasant memories, passions, frequented places of immorality, upheavels in manufacturing industries, labor unrest, dis- putes between powers, and all draw-backs in the progress of the human race is attributed to no other source, than the failure of your pro- gressive minds to calm the material elements the same as Christ calmed the ocean's wave. Each progressive mind or soul should calm the inner-self to that degree that all selfish motives, ideas, and jealous rivalry, should stop and forever end. The hoarding of gold does not in any way form one iota of spiritual comfort, but contrary 179 SPIRIT TEACHING thereto sends many a man beneath the sod, whose spiritual development was neglected, ushered into the spiritual realm an infant whose life is to be molded by the best teachers living within the portal. Would that the Spirit entities that come to you day by day, and who are ever ready to bring your nation into the useful arena, could establish a brotherhood of equal rights and justice, a new constitution, a rebirth of national pride and good will. Nothing can undo the harness that has buckled the contending factions unless the contending factions will stop long enough to look within and see the folly that lies with- in each personal breast. Sacrifice? Yes; but the brightness, cheerfulness and loveliness that only comes through sacrifice can be seen. When scientific research has molded your course will you follow? L8U SPIRIT TEACHING When the master minds have shown you the way, and gold in your coffers are turned to dross will you hear? When the great ar- chives of history are opened, and the ear marks upon the pages show the foot- prints unto the present day will you accept? Will you then open the doors of your soul, and stoop at the fountain of knowledge, and receive the ancient wisdom which beams upon you brighter and brighter as the years roll on. The time is fast opproaching when you, an individual entity within the great cosmos of intelligencies, must stand for a true principle of a material or spiritual love. If you love the material then the same old dogmas, creeds, parties, and social standards prevail. If spiritual the door will open wide and the Master's hand be revealed in a brotherhood, all-one. ail-true, all-noble, all-good. 181 SPIRIT TEACHING It is wise and judicious that you see with a clear vision and sense the oncoming ava- lanche of distruction and ruin. It is within each and every one to make right; then all things will be added unto you. A necessity is an evidence of an unsupplied want, something that is lacking; matters not from whence it comes. It is also a creative energy and from it spring many things that otherwise would lie dorment many centuries. A spiritual necessity is in the dawning; a new light is upon the horizon of time. Each and every step you take is made and created by the necessity that causes you to act; the process is very simple, and the avenues very broad. You think then there is not very much to necessity after all? Oh! yes! but there is; the future is a necessity and the ever growing 182 SPIRIT TEACHING condition make necessity a very much needed reality in the evolution, and the progression throughout the great cosmic consciousness. Can you fathom the opinions of people in a day? In a year? In a life time? No, Never. The necessity for the things higher is so great, and the workers so few; the evolutions so numerous, no, never through the ages. If it were not for the necessities that arise you would not be seekers for truth and the righteous interpretation of the laws which govern the various forms of life which ani- mate the whole. Through this necessity you must be sup- plied ere you make the next move in your material career. Ownership and possessors!) ip are two fac- tors and to rightly apply that which is given and that which you have in your possession, it is necessary the best that lies within you 1 83 SPIRIT TEACHING be brought forward to cope with the thief, robber, and malefactor in general who would rob you of your good name and cast you as- sunder as the leaves are shed in the fall to fertilize the ground. Necessity then comes to your rescue and is a guiding star and a beckoning hand to safe guard and coach you on your journey. How often have you been cast over-board to ride the angry billows, all because when the signal was given, and the solution a sacrifice, you laid aside the necessity and hovered over the broken shells. Each and every one in their respective walks in life know that truth is all righteous- ness, and necessities are sign posts along the way. You must not conceal the fact that your intentions are to promote the best interests in solving the great truth of immortality. 184 SPIKIT TEACHING You must not conceal the fact that you are and ever will be an earnest investigator of the great true laws which govern all things material, and their relationship with all spiritual laws. As the Master Mind, GOD, the Great Spirit, is the creator of all life, it stands to reason that all life being emanations from Him, moves and acts, through Him. Just as the life that emanates from God moves and is governed by Him, so are the lesser lights ruled and goverened by the life that is their Master. In each family or group of families there is a variance of conditions, these conditions bring forth different movements and actions, going from the simple to the complex. The roof of a building in making is com- posed of thousands of pieces lapped and inter- lapped to act as a protector from the elements, that which is within or underneath. 185 SPIRIT TEACHING If the conditions were the same at all times on every inch of the roof, it is reasonable to suppose the roof would at all times be intact. But in this there is an uncovering caused by some source at variance with other parts of the roof; the consequence is a leak, or a breach has been made, and the parts within suffer. In the complex structure of the various forms in nature, however compact or closely allied they are one with another, the various parts of these materialized entities are never in full harmony; because of the complexity of the Spirit upon whom they rest their all. When you as individuals are placed solely upon your own resources, you err because of the inharmony that exists within you and in other forms of life that are dependent upon you for support and maintenance. Should all the life atoms, essences, and ISC SPIKIT TEACHING entities be in harmony then a true fellowship would be the result, and in that state no errors would ever be committed. This is given to show the relationship of all forms of life, and each step in the cosmos of things. It is also given as an aid to help yon attain a position in the great spiritual development whereby you can achieve the very highest within your sphere of activities. Do not overlap the faulty construction of a material or spiritual endeavor but see to the clear and sound adjustment of every motive. You will achieve much in the maintenance of all that will lead you into proper adjust- ments. When you shall have learned to forbear with all, then you will have achieved one of the greatest blessings to come in future time. The principle, ground work or foundation of all material groups are is' SPIRIT TEACHING outgrowths of the spiritual development of each group of material substances, and are the principle holdings in your building. The operations are of iron, and the fasten- ings are of concrete or stone formation, the underlying formations are of a multiplex variety of matter. When the spiritual principles of construc- tion are gone into you find the spiritual forms of various texture from a sponge like mass to a close compact combination of elements and substances; each carries its own relation and therfore a proportion rests upon the fellows that should go hand in hand. The result would be the determination of the proper co-ordinance, which means the spiritual relationship it bears one to another, and in all cases if it is a feasable under- taking, when you weigh the spiritual caliber of each and every mortal it should 16* SPIRIT TEACHING relate to their becoming an advantage in the social realms of their endeavors. You should be mindful of these things for within them will lie not only your material satisfaction but also your spiritual growth. The social problems are at your door, and upon you rests much in the study of the present unrest. Take then your best efforts and a front only to master the great truths that come before your every day life. This and more will come in future years. The good Samaritan is one who in the time of need will bend down and lift up an adversary. When your adversary is by the roadside wounded unto death, lift him up and place him in the best state possible for his comfort. Do not revel in his downfall lest in the hour you least expect it the same disaster come to you; but reach out the helping hand and hli SPIRIT TEACHING beckon an oncoming one to succor and care for the unfortunate. Shipwrecked mariners are many upon the sea of life, and great are the perils of a mariner's journey. As a unit of purpose and intent, realizing wherever the flow of spirit endeavor is truly and meaningly for the upliftment of all, and not as a single honored one — reach out and open the heart to receive the joy of a blessed reward. It will be merited and you may enter into the pleasures and comforts of life. The seething flames will reduce a building to ashes, but a noble character will stand the fire of persecution. Open up the depths of forbearence. bury the shattered fragments of the past, scale the ladder of assurance and view the love of peace in the ascendency. Take up the banner of truth as exemplified with a more fervent hand, place it in the 190 SPIRIT TEACHING bosom of your nature never to come down until the colors are unfurled within the gates of His magnificent glory. When you gather the fruits of your labor each shall be a glitter of light illuminating the exterior of each brave soul. You can not find fear, malice, hate, envy, selfishness, greed, or jealousy, in the make-up of love. Pure and undefiled love is that which controls all things. Think and study that you may real- ize its grandeur. Remain steadfast and true, realizing at all times the great worth you could be in the Master's vineyard. Too much praise can not be given to the true in heart, from which pours a healing portion that transcends the very nature of one's being, and the good springs up as the sparkling waters rise from the pebbles, burst- ing forth in little ripples or waves, sending forth good tidings. 19] SPIRIT TEACHING The awakening of the loving impulses that lie within you will be as the morning, with all its refreshing atmosphere, full of life and joy. in all the true impulses of nature whether of the active or passive, the all-permeating at- mosphere is essential and paramount for life. In the actions of all forms of life the great principle is ever present in each, and at a regulated standard. The equation is easily applied and an equal proportion the result. The progressive thought embraces all forms of knowledge from the perception of an entity to the culmination of the active attributes of every form of life into its respective.affinity. You wield the sceptre of individual rights, and proclaim your sovereignty and ownership of your individual selfhood in bringing to- gether the many forms of life entities who claim for themselves the right of ownership 192 SPIRIT TEACHING of its own particular domain; then you will find by study the importance of complete harmony of the respective parts or life por- tions to the proper application of your own life's interest in the material world. The component parts of a given substance constitute the ligaments upon which will rest the substance when complete or as a whole. The relationship of the various parts are inter-linked, one with another, and upon which they act, teaches you that within all bodies of whatever form there is a combina- tion of substances or the component parts of that body, and that each separate entity relies u^on its neighbor for support. Not only do you find this in the study of chemistry and physics, but also in the Spirit life of all forms in nature. It is from this spiritual fountain that man draws his supply of useful knowledge. r*3 SPIRIT TEACHING The investigation leads him to analyze the various parts and to assign to them their re- spective positions, duties and functions which they are to occupy and perform in the con- crete body. This investigation then leads you into all channels of art and science. Political economy is based upon the same methods that nature has outlined in her un- erring rules of creative powers. It has fostered many ideas of reform in local and national affairs. It has brought many useful and intellectual men and women to the front upon whom will rest much of the progress that lies before you as a nation — individually and collectively. While uneven tendencies exist and inhar- mony prevails, greatness both in purpose and thought with pure love undefined, will con- quer all forms of an uneven or unbalanced M SPIRIT TEACHING power, driving out all sensuality and bring- ing a selfish love to the knee. By so doing you hold yourself at all times so all can see reflecting within the counte- nance no guilt. Men forgetting for the present moment that God is unchangeable and omnipotent, that all creations coming from Him breathe the same atmosphere of Divine purity, foster, plan, promulgate, and hang on to the dogmas of material states, thereby receiving a tidal wave of a shiftless life. By separating yourself from the external environments of dogmatic ideas you will beget for yourself treasures of useful phil- osophy, that bring to you sweeping currents of pleasure. The future will reveal to you the treasures of His kingdom and the glory of His Majesty. Few are there now who will accept the I 95 SPIRIT TEACHING truths, but the few who shall stand will be immovable against that day. Instead of the few who attend the churches on your sabbath days should be the populace in profound reverence, and would be if the mother-love was not transgressed and set at naught and your Christian religions had not erred by deviating from the truth. We can not impress too strongly upon man the advisability of an inner-consciousness of right, sacrificing 'any and all things that bar the progressive unity of a contented nation. The solution of the great political questions that confront you as a nation does not rest with the plank-makers of the various political parties that battle for leadership, it rests within the breast of each individual of the the nation. The rich and poor alike, are to decide the right and the wrong. There is only one way. 1 96 SPIRIT TEACHING All your planks, conventions and presi- dents, can not cement the gulf that faces the nations of the earth. The gulf that now spans the nations of all your climes is the cause reaching over periods of time which is working to a perfect equi- librium, a brotherhood of a useful people. Catastrophes could be averted, the result rests within the breast of all men; — conquer self and the battle is won. Do not take any thing for granted in the future; do not pass anything along until you shall have studied the proposition from every angle; then be sure you understand the ground upon which you stand. Would the temptations of man could for- ever be effaced, but in testing one's strength of purpose trials are placed upon the shoulders. We know it is the great scheme of nature, and many are unable to stand, 97 SPIRIT TEACHING while others combat until the battle is won. When you fag by the wayside and drop all efforts to push onward, you have not been faithful to the trust. When you shall have won and the victory is gained, the seed will fall in fertile soil and bring forth its own. The foremost of you are the ones who in the progress of time, harness the present con- ditions and pull for the future; when, by study and experience you have been en- lightened, the masses generally can be show the virtues that underlie their own beings in physical form. The stories of persecutions of medieval times were intolerable because of their un- seemingness. The same spirit still remains with you, only restrained through fear of an unpopular outburst among your people. 198 SPIRIT TEACHING Upon making your demands in the past it has been characteristic of the masses to plead; but, through continued injustice braver hearts have been launched who march forth by order of command. The consequences are clearly seen and a yielding principle has been awakened under pressure. If the pressure be removed at this time, back into the old rut will come the conditions, under which the toilers have existed for years. Be brave and earnest, make for a just equa- tion and distribution of revenue. It is mere folly to again give under to the domineering principles that have for so long held the yoke in position. Bend forward with renewed zeal. While thousands have fallen upon the battle fields to uphold the integrities of the nation, thousands should be willing to be sacrificed upon the altar of usefulness for 199 SPIRIT TEACHING the perpetuation of a brotherhood among men. A brotherhood so classed that equal justice shall reach to each and every one. In all nationalities and all climes the for- ward movement is being launched by broad minded men in all walks of life. The man who is silently watchful, and ever alert to send his own knowledge into the great forward step in f undimental laws and rules, that will help gather all nations under one flag, and who is not in the foreground blow- his horn, because of his station in life, has no reason to fear that his work is not reaching home. Partisans are egotistical, and usually un- relenting, they are the ones who dominate the machine element of your politics, and should be relegated to the running of the machine, while you the common people should be the thinkers, toilers, home-makers 200 SPIRIT TEACHING and producers; — the people upon whom the whole world look for food, whether you are called a Red, Bolsheviki, Autocrat or a Boot- legger, matters not; upon you rest the runn- ing of your government. But when you sell your self-esteem, and lay aside the brother at your side for a piece of pie molded by the machine man who could not run a pea huller if he had to, you become worse than an infidel or an atheist. In this great time of re-adjustment of things material there is also a great time ad- justing of things spiritual. The spirit of truth should be within your own breast; you should not ask the ward- healer how you should vote, nor the Infidel to show you the picture of your Grod. Remember, oh! you dear ones of the com- mon people, who should represent the love of justice and of righteousness, it is not your 201 SPIRIT TEACHING will, or will of the materialist, clergy, or the brother at your side, but the will of Him who sent you into the material world. Look within yourself where God should dwell supreme, and as the light of the new day commences to dawn, go forth into your own convention chambers and bring forth the planks upon which you are to stand. Let them come forth without fear or favor, a product of an unselfish heart, pure, clean and sweet; with the savor of unity, no jealous acts, covetous deeds, or grasping greed, but a brotherhood of all. Harness the good; it pulls with strength, and makes stronger each noble act. When you reach for the unerring laws which govern all creative energies it would be foolhardiness indeed to attempt to replace in your country laws of such concoctions as would bring about inharmonic conditions. 202 SPIRIT TEACHING la all nature you find symmetry both in form and motion, as well as the most beau- tiful combinations of color. All of nature's forms are in a true harmonic state, changed only by the environment in which they dwell. In your country to-day, the people at large have over-stepped the bounds of reason; men have misplaced the color schemes, and the true harmonic principles which underlie all of nature's works, and instead have erected marble shafts, which represent the great principles for which they stand. The avalanches of truth make no impress- ion on the average man, they do not appeal to him, because of the environment in which he dwells. The men of the hour who make associations amongthemselves, naturally imbibe ideas from each other, and disregard the real truth which 203 SPIRIT TEACHING underlies every perfect principle, create an environment in which they live, and never stop to analyze the true status of things for fear the prestige and gain be gone and the ruling power lost and forever laid aside. So they build shafts that stand as their material principles, cold and indifferent. The time is close when the eye will see and the ear hear the truth in all its glory. Do the violet and pansy, the hyacinth and lilac, hide their beauty? No they shed their glory in color; the geniuses of your age find it hard indeed to place upon canvas such harmonized colors. The flowers do not for one moment call up- on you to give forth your glory, praise, and worship, but they do tell you in all simple truth of the Divine attributes of the Infinite Mind. The flowers beckon with their color scheme and entrance you with their fragrance. 204 SPIRIT TEACHING When the little tot comes within your home you make glad, and tell your dear ones of the treasure, and so does all nature. In all your walks of life to-day you are face to face with problems in which the body politic of your nation is at a loss as to the proper methods through which relief can come. In the ensemble of men, wherein the rights of all are concerned, you find publicans of the most odious character. In the decades of the past that form of public service has been abused, until to-day, demagogues have fastened their fangs upon the hearts of men. We do not wish to extol those of whom the publican reaps his harvest but we do wish to bring forth conditions in your social life that should exist, and wipe from your slates those conditions that should be effaced. In times past the publican was known as 205 SPIRIT TEACHING au officer of the law, and applied to no other; it matters not your station in public or private affairs, the unjust publican is equally repuls- ive in the eye of a true citizen of the land. The sociological relations have commenced to take on new conditions and from the con- ditions thus taken on will rest much of your future nationally. The outlook is encouraging, it ushers in a new line of thought that has been withheld an account of the prevailing powers. The new powers ushered in are more mighty than at any previous time and will show themselves not only in the minds of men as a personal unit, but collectively in your work- shops and offices. Proselyte your country and you ruin the blessings which come to a common people; christianize them and you ruin the sacred truths that spring up in nature as the 2i)( SPIRIT TEACHING buttercup and the violet; socialize them aad you cement them in a glorious unit of peace, happiness and prosperity. How can any one in any station they may occupy in your relationship, one with another, upon the walks of life, expect from the church of their choice peace and consolation, when within their own soul there exists the same rotten conditions of former years? The commencement of the new era that dawns upon you nationally comes forth slow- ly and surely; the light comes and shines through the obscure clouds; a common purpose will prevail among you and public opinion will broaden and be more hopeful. You can not hasten the relationship of the classes and the masses; it can only come by a continued application of a noble purpose of labor, applied to the existing conditions and the classes realize the fact, that upon 20 SPIRIT TEACHING the masses rest their own personal comfort and not by the application of their own personal knowledge of business economics. Each and every trust-worthy person will become a useful member in the society of mankind, and the less informed will be taken care of by a prescribed law of justice. Thousands try to fathom the mysteries that underlie the natures of men, while thousands never try to accomplish anything, save lust and greed. It is truly commendable when you try for higher things and make for self a firm footing among the ranks of men. No truer or firmer principle can be had than to weigh an act with justice. The glorious morning dawns upon civiliza- tion and marks the time when Authorities, Keepers of Palaces, Monarchs and Rulers shall perish by the sword. It is not angry, jealous greed that will 208 SPIRIT TEACHING sway the blade, but the depressed and cowed consciences of men, who are the super-dread- naughts of all conquests, and the master pieces of industry. Chivalry? No. No chivalry in the day this dawns upon the civilized nations. Chivalry? No. No chivalry when the Monarchs tear the hinges and the latchets from their anchorage. Chivalry? No. Never until the heart shall cease to beat, and the new made conquests shall have made the return. Not under the flag of truce, or flag of country, but under the binding influence of hearts all afire with the glow of righteousness. No quarter? No. Why no quarter? There was none given. For years the tender hearts have perished and homes have been made desolate with the return of day. Governments — Who? By whom? None, save under the flag. 209 SPIRIT TEACHING Principalities — Powers? None, save under the flag. All honor, principle, and truth, shall reign supreme in the new annals of history. Who will waver? Who* will wander? Who will lie by the wheels and listen to the creak- ing sound? None. All in a solid heart beat will ring out the new song, and harness the purest of all love. Blessed be the future time when the Great Messenger shall come and be crowned with glory from on high. The monuments of industry are harnessed activity, it illuminates the atmosphere and sweetens the refreshing air. Many times in the past when the methods of industry have deen checked, the whole atmosphere around you was stagnated with polution of discontent, which takes time, hard labor and patience to overcome. 210 SPIRIT TEACHING In the future you will find the industrial situation one of turmoil and strife. The belts, pulleys, shafting, engines, fire- boxes, and the dying vats, yea! the whole of the forward march of industry in your country will be broken in the center. The wheels will be torn from their spindles, and the arches broken in twain. The great and marvelous inventions of the past will melt away as the snow, and the dark age of man will again rest upon the nations of the earth. The great progress in history, art and science, will be as the new mown hay; in a few days the sun drieth it and only the fodder is left. How be it in the new day and the hour when the coming dawn will shed its light the faithful few will come forth with power. The tower of Babylon, and the Egyptian Sphinx will be nothing in comparison to the new arts, 211 SPIRIT TEACHING sciences, and inventions, that will come in the evolution that follows. The oft tried customs of conservative methods are good, yet the time will come in your life, in obeying your own impulses of conservative action, that act will blast the future, and your conservative act will be- come a retarded principle. Scale the heights of justice, for each and every soul will be recompensed commensurate with their efforts in life's vineyard. Be honest, be true — all comes forward in due time. The fruits are to those who do His will, and by the doing of His will, you enhance your true worth. 212 SPIRIT TEACHING Each and every one in life By toil and sweat of brow Sow their seed amongst the strife — But all true men should bow. Upon the chancel bend the knee And truly seek His name; A holy place within should be So all may meet the same. Each a true and sacred brother — Through life, all true and firm; Each a lover of the other Ever helping at life's turn. When the trials of life are o'er And the toils lie behind, Kneel, and with an earnest prayer, "Oh! Father, life, more tightly bind — Our hearts in unison, free, Our spirits with purpose strong, To do thy will and ever be, Thy children free from wrong." 213 SPIRIT TEACHING Primitive man knew not from whence he came — the warmth with its pleasant glow, the rain and piercing wind that caused him to seek shelter, the cold that caused him to search for raiment, or of the hunger which caused him to seek his food. You seek the comforts of life to-day, the same as your primitive brother, but you have found that nature is the great store-house of the Great Creator which contains an ample supply for all. How many of the human family to-day accept only through necessity as of former years! How many of you have gone so far as to press upon your fellows that love which God in His wisdom has bestowed upon you — His off-spring! In the Occult you find truths which seldom enter the minds of men who are engrossed 214 SPIRIT TEACHING in the commercial activities of this material life. In fact the business in which they are engaged will not permit them to consider the problems of the higher life, because they are engrossed in the market reports which en- ables them to safe-guard their investments, and rea p the greatest harvest from their stocks. Because of one's endowment of a superior intellect caused by study and research extend- ing through the various incarnations, is no reason now, that the intellect should be ap- plied to personal and selfish gain, but should be used as becoming your stewardship. You are as your primitive brother only a custodian of natures resources. Through the misapplication of your stewardship by apply- ing it selfishly to the welfare and comfort of self, you thereby take from the law, and your stewardship becomes a detriment to the people at large among whom you dwell. 215 SPIRIT TEACHING You can not understand the great truths that unfold as the blossom, and spring forth with the morning's sun, nor can .you ever fathom the great depth of nature uutil you come as tittle children to be taught the great truth which is all spiritual. Your efforts are not in vain, nor lost by the wayside, they will come to you as the blooming rose, and the un- folding of the violet and pansy. While you walk in the moon-beams you can see the morning-glory awaken in all its radi- ant beauty and breaking away from the shad- ows at morning's dawn, usher in the gray mists of light, soon to be followed by the climbing of the great sun over hill and dale, bringing heat and light to all material sub- stance. It is the same with the great inner light, the director of your moral or christian relation; whispering from the dark depths of conscience, which when heeded will ripen 216 SPIKIT TEACHING into a beautiful solace of divine thought com- ing unto its own. There is no effort upon the part of the flowers in the spring time to send forth their fragrance to the atmosphere, while the con- tact of the pedals with the life giving forces sends forth the delicate perfume of its nature. You as spirits drink from the great fountain of love to enable you to send forth your loving greetings in the semblance of His Majesty. Neither is there any effort upon the part of Spirit to drink at loves fountain. It is just as essential for the life of the spirit to live by the love of the Infinite, as it is for the flower to breathe the gases in the atmosphere. The way of true progress is by the avenues of truth; the roads of discontent beget you nothing but sorrow; they yield no rich harvest likened unto peace. The discontented shun the pruners hook, 217 SPIRIT TEACHING and neglect the spray; they toss and are up- rooted; the limbs are torn from the shoulders and the branches twisted. The makers and partakers of the great philosophy of life are co-workers in all time; they are essential to each other; one without the other would net no return, but, when side by side foster the great reaching-out principle that forms a perfect model. No resources, only a straight line to follow, leading you into a oneness power. Cherish all truth and righteousness, for God is all love and mercy, granting unto you a life of joy, love, and peace. Make yourself comfortable, — in fact, we lead you in the way you have not known, and the crooked ways we make straight. Who could conceive in the past of the im- plement through which men tilled the soil to develop into the implements of those at 218 SPIRIT TEACHING present employed in agricultural pursuits! Nor can you now conceive the difference in the present implements, to the ones that will develop a few years in the future. Could you think a few years past how the dry and unproductive plains could be changed into productive fields by irrigation! Nor can you now conceive the future when the Agriculturist will not dread the drought, or the deluge; all will work in harmony. The wind and rain will not leave their mark, or the sun its stain. If you have no thought upon which to build any desired contrivance, of whatever nature, you can not accomplish it unless the thoughts are formed into tangible substances which will act in due season upon the whole scheme or project. Therefore Spirit, ever in motion, brings into action every thought generated in due 219 SPIRIT TEACHING season, just as the plant will give forth in its season. It is the nature and order of things. God, the Father, in His wisdom and mercy has placed seeming mysteries within your grasp, and by the rightful comprehension they will lead into spiritual upheavels that all doctrines and creeds have in the past been unable to accomplish. Go forth with renewed energy; think not of the morrow, for things of earth will come, but the spiritual must be sought. Securely locked within the vaults of intelli- gence are legacies of priceless value, never to be revealed to man so long as superstition and ignorance dominate the intellect. Too bad that superstition should remain with man when science is each day revealing Truth. We can not conceive how it is possible for you to hang on to the worn out tatters of 220 SPIRIT TEACHING falsely built basic principles. It does surely seem that through this same superstition you and your off-spring bring yourselves to the belief that you are forever and unuterably lost if you do not understand and accept certain buiit-up and constructed ideas of an idol, when it is truly said and always taught "Thou shalt have no other Gods before me." In the glorious works of nature all life blooms with a perfect radiance all its own. When the trees.are in blossom the mother tree tells you of her babes; when the crab- apple and the peach come forth upon the limb the mother is robed in her divine mantel, and the breezes bring to your nostrils the joyous news. What enmity has one tree towards another? What enmity has the atmosphere for the various gases that go to the respective trees? The answer is; none. 221 SPIRIT TEACHING The atmosphere carries the fragrance of one the same as the other, and nature is all aglow in the spring time. When nature brings into action any form animate or inanimate it must first pass the rudimentary stage; the various progressive steps are noted and finally made manifest in the well developed form. The tree indicates its age in its progressive growth, the stone its formation in the strata, and man his material growth, in the well developed body. In all the material forms of life the spirit is revealed in its personality. The flower in its beauty and the gases it attracts; the minerals in their various formations from the simple clay to the refined gold, and the people their personality and character. Who would dare transgress upon the Infinite Mind and try to bring into condemna- tion those things which are so pure and good. 222 SPIRIT TEACHING Out of the storehouse of the Great Creator comes streams of knowledge and wisdom. Whosoever polutes the clear waters of crystal only brings degradation upon himself in the exercise of his folly. Welcome the Divine Spirit, God, the Father, of all creative energies, and learn the lesson taught you, for the time has come when you can perceive the great and noble principles. Remember through the occult forces of nature you can attract the highest or the lowest in the realms of Spirit, and by the application of the laws of nature attract the forces of the alamalcule atoms and entities of all forms of nature by the power of love, that will bring to you the great phenomena man is unable to fathom. The soul is the means of your communion and is the tie that binds you in closer relationship, that due honor may be given the Father of all life. 223 SPIRIT TEACHING In this life you are commenc- ing the important duties that lie before you; that will determine your usefulness when you shall have made your return to the Infinite Father, GOD. You are facing life to-day, bending forth every effort and nerve of your being to supplant the true works of God. Never, from the history of all time has the work of the Master Mind been recognized by the multi- tudes, but instead men have created and formed for them- selves doctrines and beliefs to fill the exigencies of the times, and to keep pace with the com- mercial world. You in the material life try to alter the course of events. But nothing can divert the will of the Father. 224 SPIRIT TEACHING No doctrines or creeds, princi- palities or powers, can make or promulgate laws that shall stand them in hand and place them in the Divine grace, on account of good citizenship or loyalty to their flag. There are no creeds to-day that by their statements and utterances can cause the Master Mind, the all-perfect Love, to accept and promulgate their own specially prepared beliefs. The Great and Holy of all life has from the foundation of the world placed within the firma- ment laws all-pure and perfect; no mortal or spirit can for one moment set at variance their ac- tions upon any of the creative energies. 225 SPIRIT TEACH IMG The Infinite Mind, God, is j ust, and being just, laws emanate from Him that are unchange- able and immovable. Each and every soul is ac- countable for its own trans- gressions and is to stand alone by the plow share and reap the harvest from the seed it has sown. Salvation by love is sweet, sal- vation by force is a farce. God's love comes only to those who are worthy, and who in turn show by their very beings that love has sought its own. It is the progression of your spiritual self that will stand you in the light of His love. 226 SPIRIT TEACHING A few years of useful endeav- or will serve you graciously, and when rightly applied yield an abundant harvest. How well you do your work depends upon the amount of time and labor you expend and your love of duty. Your inspection of the princi- ples of all material facts is re- quired, because, by them you are enabled to come to a rational conclusion, and to a true appli- cation of their meaning. It is essential you enter your brothers life, and let him know by precept and example you are true blue. The will of the Great Creator is being obeyed through the operations of Divine law. The will of man is being obeyed in the production of all forms of creation produced by his hand. 227 SPIRIT TEACHING The Master whose life is re- vealed in all of nature's works, shall always reign because of His perfect love in all things. Be steadfast and immovable. God's love is supreme and His counsels are just. In your progress in the ma- terial life an unselfish love for your fellows will make you true seekers for the great truths of His kingdom. Reaping the harvest is the satisfaction after the toil. In the application of Divine law you create, form, promul- gate, plan and foster, such thoughts as bring into action the law that will reap for you either poverty, riches, evil or righteousness. 228 SPIRIT TEACHING Prosperity and poverty are two extremes the same as evil and righteousness; the law that produces one produces the other; it all depends upon the applica- tion of the law. The ordinary routines of life are many in form and construc- tion, each particle of life is ani- mated by the influx of Divine power. The inner-consciousness of right is keen and alert, yet you can override its dictation by your own will. In all life there are trials and struggles for mastership; while all masters are not victors, all victors should be masters. Never court temptation, but seek deliverance. 229 SPIRIT TEACHING Brave every obstacle and re- lease nothing from your grasp that will bring you closer to the all-inspiring love of the Great Creal You can not keep yourself too close to the fountain of life, the living waters. You can will your destiny, even to that of glory or die pair. The better elements of a b cessful and resourceful nature are those that are imbued wirh the principles of Truth. The useless are those at vari- ance with all progressive actions: they not only retard their own progress but cast stumbling blocks in the way of the more progressive. ■ 230 SPIRIT TEACHING Pare and undefined judgment is a thing to be prized and valued. The outgrowth of your en- deavors will be most satis- factory; they will lead you on to newer fields which will be clear and will make clearer all things which have been clouded in the past. When you shall have accomp- lished a control of self, you will possess the attributes of a sage. You must not partake of the general pleasures of material hilarities, for by them the fields are strewn with litter it takes years of hard and toilsome work to undo. The magic touch of an artist is truly a gift; to possess a calm mind in stormy weather requires the same magic touch. 231 SPIRIT TEACHING Unselfishness is power, and an unselfish nature a virtue of sound judgment. Hours of study without the application of a true principle will yield little to the under- standing of any cause. All forms of disease and dis- aster are inter-allied one with the other, and are expressions of regret and remorse. The reasonablness of any subject if tried out will show forth its beauty, and bring unto its master a ten fold harvest. Kelentlessness is a product of malice, hate, and envy. Productions of malice, hate, and envy, will not advance any one, no matter how earnest or true they may be to themselves, 232 SPIRIT TEACHING Every act you create should be one born of true principles. Warnings come that enables you to recognize the dangers when they approach you. Selfish gain molds itself into wedges, from which the pro- ducers can never extricate them- selves. Train your thoughts as you would a gun, letting love of jus- tice be your bead. From the fact one will pros- per materially is not an evi- dence of true ownership; the true owner has the evidence of righteous undertakings. Man's spirituality is what counts in the scale of useful- ness; heart action will net you an hundred fold. 233 SP1K1T TEACHING A true desire and sacrifice of self for a true principle, will ripen into golden fruit, most palatable. You who would sac- rifice in the material world your all, will receive the Father's blessing. Press onward and upward, the truths of His kingdom are many and their meanings deep. We cannot compel or exact of any mortal any plan or contriv- ance through which man can be helped materially or spiritually, but on the other hand Spirit can impress upon man facts, and when followed they will lead him into brigter fields. Remember the true and tried are the ones worthy of emula- tion. 234 SPIRIT TEACHING Ascend the ladder of useful- ness, and as the rungs are met, cling and hold fast to the ut- most, for in life all things are His. Knowledge when properly applied will bring forth wisdom, and from this pinnacle the movements of men are guided. Knowledge will be given as the time comes for unfoldment; also wisdom, as the grain at harvest. Wisdom is free and can only be gained by a true conception of Divine light; wisdom is of God. The true inward-self is hard to find but when once captured a true perfect life will be your prize. 235 SPIRIT TEACHING Practice will make perfect, and the application of a thing demonstrates truth. You do not harness your ac- tions in vain, for by them greater forces are brought into play, and your progression is marked in the years to come. The influx of love exerted upon the human race is alto- gether regulated by desire and directed by will. Memory's pages are often clouded with unwelcome news that will lead you into ruts which only time can alter. The future holds the great unseen to the material eye, but the Spirit knows where the treasure lies. 236 SPIK1T TEACHING When the soul is sick in pov- erty and kindred conditions, there are none who can heal save the Spirit. The healing balm of spirit when poured out upon you brings recognition to all those who are interested in the soul's development, silently and surely making the way through the hedges of opposition, selfishness and greed. Seasonable showers come to enrich the earth that the harvest may be great, and heaven's dew to bless each sojourner in the land of plenty and peace. Welcome the great Infinite Mind in the hour of peace, for in that hour comes the enriched harvest. 237 SPIRIT TEACHING A master awaits his time with true patience, for without patience he could never succeed. We welcome the time when the harvest shall come; the great truths shall lie open as meat upon the Master's table, and bread as the nourishing dew. The pleasure one can receive in the material life is only a faint shadow compared to find- ing the lofty in the personality of one's being. The pleasure one will get in spiritual growth is truly sweet and enduring. Learn from higher thought, and move to higher realms through spirit teaching. Remember the true and tried are the ones worthy of emulation. 238 SPIRIT TEACHING Assimilate truth, it will bring to you wisdom, love, happiness and notable satisfaction. The uuselfish man or woman awakens a keen interest, which is enduring; while within the selfish abide all forms which rebound as reactions. If you have not come through the stages of sacrifice you can not enter into that sympathetic state necessary to endow you with power. The growth of a soul is as the dew drop in the early morning, which glistens in the sun's ray and loses itself within its bosom. Love is so pure you can not K-iate it with the depraved thiugs of earth. SPIRIT TEACHING Each and every soul is an oasis in the desert of darkness, a garden in Eden. The Spirit is to you as the mother is to her child; the tender- ness of love melting the most hardened heart when it comes within the limit.
