It is a very clever paraphrase of 'Casey at the Bat,' and has a very decided local value." De Wolf Hopper. Washington, D. C, April 20, 1914. General Distributor ^d r VV i, W iTH apologies to De Wolf Hopper, And "Casey at the Bat," ril give you my conception Of a game as fast as that. In which are living characters Whom everybody knows — 'Twas one of those nerve-racking games That had you on your toes. "Play ball," O'Loughlin's voice rang out. Then this great game began, And in that throng of thousands There was not a single fan Who dreamt the Bostons had a chance — But ere you'd time to think The Red Hose boys had jumpt right in And put us on the blink. Oakland Cabriolet POLLOCK CAR CORPORATION Oakland and Oldsmobile Motor Cars FIRESTONE SECOND TIRES 1018 CONNECTICUT AVE. N. W. Phone, Main 7837 ' 2 Whenever Joe Wood twirled the ball A cloud of smoke arose So thick you couldn't see "The Bull" Or any Red Sox hose ; He mixed his crossfire with his shoots, The fireworks then began; With marvelous rapidity, Twice, he struck out ev'ry man. The world- famed Walter Johnson Had 'em bagging at the knee; They tried to straighten out his curves Which none of 'em could see. He fooled 'em with his loop de loop. He looped from left to right, And when his wing began to swing He looped 'em out of sight. Oakland Cabriolet The Oakland Cabriolet is a distinct innovation and represents a signal achieve- ment of our designers. It is a two-in-one body and may be used open in the summer and closed in the winter. Its wide range of usefulness has been made possible by the ingenious method of body construction. The top tilts back into small compass at the rear; the side windows are hinged and fold down and inward against the doors, while the side panel windows drop down into the walls of the car. The Cabriolet with left-hand drive is the gentlewoman's ideal car, and every convenience and refinement of detail has been incorporated. It is a car which will lend itself admi- rably to the professional and business man who is out under all conditions. It is finished in a beautiful rich blue and may be had in deeply upholstered gray whipcord or leather. Completely equip- ped with Delco system, rain-vision wind- shield, speedometer, 33 x 4-inch tires, electric horn, demountable rims. (FOR ILLUSTRATION SEE PAGE 2.) 4 i& =v W*"-'^ M V ji>vMy- "We should worry" at the outlook Of the Nationals that day, - With 4 to 2 against 'em, And one inning more to play. And then when Ainsmith died at first. And Johnson did the same, A sickly silence fell upon The patrons of the game. A straggling few got up to go. In deep despair the rest Hung breathless on the single chance, Still hoping for the best. They thought if only Gandil Could get a whack at that They'd put up a million dollars now With Gandil at the bat. While you are reading about ' ^Chick Gandil's Great Hit," bear in mind that there are ''Great Hits" on the adver- tising pages as well. Then Danny bunted safely, To the wonderment of all; Zeb, the "Tennessee Flyer," Tore the cover off the ball. And when the dust had lifted, And we saw what had occurred, Zeb was sliding into second, Dare-devil Dan a-hugging third. Then from that bunch of base ball fans There rose a lusty yell ; It rumbled through the Soldiers' Home, It rattled in the dell. It knocked upon the Monument, And recoiled upon the flat, For Gandil, mighty Gandil, Was advancing to the bat. X^ \y^ All Outside Rooms Running Hot and Cold Water GRAND HOTEL CO. E. J.
