 The Genealogy of the Braley Family. 
 
 The Braleys descended from four brothers, Huguenots, 
 who came to this country about 1680. and settled in what 
 is now the city of New Bedford. One of the brothers re- 
 moved to Vermont and one to Rhode Island, from which 
 descended this branch of the Braley family, of which we 
 have any record. 
 
 Roger Bralicy, the father of Ezekiel, was born in 
 Rhode Island, but what town is not known. He dissap- 
 peared very sudden leaving a wife and two children. Ruth 
 Cole, his wife, died in Belliugham, Mass., about 1840. 
 The children of Roger and Ruth Braley were Ezekiel and 
 Chloe. Chloe married Farrington of Franklin, Mass.

 wife died in Westboro, Mass., age 91 years, 11 months 
 and 14 days, February 19, 1875.

 In conclusion I wish to thank all friends that have 
 kindly helped me in this Family Record. I think it is 
 well to give a short account of those that took part in the 
 Civil War. 
 
 1st. Richard Rowett, Brigadier General, enlisted at 
 the first call for troops in 1861 and served until the close 
 of the war. He was elected Captain of Co. K, 7th 111. 
 He was in the great battles of the army to Tennesse, 
 besides many minor engagements and was severely wound- 
 ed at Altoona, Ga. He was in command of the Fort. 
 General Corse had retired early in the engagement. It was 
 at this battle General Sherman gave his celebrated message, 
 "Hold the Fort, for I am Coming." General Rowett was 
 promoted to Brigadier General. 
 
 2nd. George R. Braley at the commencement of the 
 war was living at Commerce, Mo., and was taken prisoner 
 after burning his mill, by General Thompson, who tried 
 to make him enlist in the Rebel army, but failed, kept 
 him prisoner three weeks and sent him home, with this 
 declaration "That he would rather fight him than feed 
 him." He went to Cairo, 111., and went on a government 
 boat as engineer, but never enlisted. 
 
 3rd. Stephen B. Cole enlisted in Co. A, 122nd. 111., 
 three years. 
 
 4th. Charles E. White, private in 22nd. 111. infantry, 
 three years. 
 
 5th. Ellison L,. Braley enlisted in Co., 6th., unattached 
 Mass. Vol., three months. 
 
 6th. Frank G. Braley, Co., 6th., unattached Mass. 
 Vol., enlisted second time in Co. E, 4th. Heavy Artillery, 
 one year. 
 
 7th, James Beattie, bandmaster, 45tli. Regiment, 
 Iowa, three months.
