Private Parties. 
 
 Parties of 10 or more people will find it to 
 tlieir interest, both in matter of expense and 
 sociability, to employ these Carriages, which 
 are especially adapted to the purpose. They 
 are roomy, comfortable, either open or closed, 
 elegant in design and finish, drawn by superior 
 quality of horses, and attended by experienced 
 agents and drivers fully uniformed. 
 
 For conveyance to Balls, Theatres, Op- 
 eras, Parties, Centennial Grounds, Fair- 
 mount Park, and about the suburbs of the 
 City, for Families, Clubs, Lodges, Societies, 
 &c., they will be found specially suitable. 
 Extra care will be taken to provide for the 
 comfort and safety of ladies and children, 
 whose patronage is respectfully solicited. 
 
 Each Carriage is limited to ten persons, and 
 patrons will avoid the discomfort of crowded 
 street cars, 'and the higher charges made by 
 public hacks.

The Women's Centennial Music Hall, 
 Forrest Mansion,

 Have specially engaged the Carriages of this 
 Company, to convey their patrons to and from 
 their concerts. The Carriages will leave from 
 points convenient in all parts of the City, for 
 the concerts, and will be in attendance to con- 
 vey persons to their hotels or residences, after 
 the performances. Tickets, reserving seats in 
 same, can be procured in the Hall, thus avoid- 
 ing the necessity of making a rush for seats in

General Description of the City, 
 
 The streets of Philadelphia are laid out in 
 parallelograms, at right angles to each other, 
 making the system of numbering houses a sim- 
 ple one. 
 
 The houses on streets running east and west 
 are numbered by hundreds, beginning at Front 
 street near the Delaware river. The houses 
 on the south side bear even numbers, those on 
 the north side uneven numbers. Thus on the 
 north side of Chestnut street, Beginning at 
 Sixth and going west, are 6oi, 603, 605, etc. 
 On the south side the numbers are 600, 602, 
 604, etc. At Seventh street the numbers in 
 700 begin, and so each successive street begins 
 a hundred of its own number. 
 
 Market street is taken as a dividing line 
 between north and south for numbering hou- 
 ses on streets running north and south. — 
 The even numbers are on the west side 
 of these streets, the uneven numbers on 
 ^the east side. No. i "North" and No. i 
 "South" begin at Market street. No. 100 
 ' North begins at Arch street, the first principal 
 street north of Market ; No. 100 South begins

at Chestnut, the first principal street south of
