INSTITUTED, 1791 CAMBRIDGE PRESS: METCALF, TORRY, AND BALLOU. 1834. The " Porcellian Club," instituted in 1791, and the '' Order of the Knights of the Square Table," instituted in 1809, were united into one Association in the year 1S31, under the title of the " rORCELLIAN CLUB." For some time previous, the Members of one Club had generally been Members of the other ; the objects and interests of both Associations had al- ways been identical ; and a strong desire having long existed in favor of an alliance, the junction was finally resolved upon, and executed on the 3lst of March, 1831. According to one of the conditions of the Union, a Cata- logue is published triennially, comprising the Honorary Mem- bers of both Clubs down to their junction, together with the Honorary and Immediate Members of the Association since that period. A Catalogue of the Library is subjoined to that of the Members. By the union of the two Clubs, the Library was increased in 1831 to 2,300 volumes. It has since been greatly augmented by the liberality of the Members, and now amounts to very nearly 3,000 volumes. Until the year 1833, the books, prints, &lc. of the Associ- ation had always been kept in the Librarian's room ; but at this period, the Members, becoming fully sensible of the inconvenience and insecurity attending this method of pre- serving so large and valuable a collection of books, deter- mined upon appropriating a room exclusively to the Library. This room is now open at all hours of the day, for the use of all the Honorary and Immediate Members of the Club. Cambridge, Nov. 18, 1834. G. Ml Grand Marshal. D. Ml . . . Deputy Marshal. G. The names of the residences of Honorary Members in the Cata- logue, were taken from the old Records ; and as it was found impossible to correct them all, in conformity with the changes which have since been made, they have been generally suflfered to remain as first recorded. This may account for some misstatements in the present residences of Honorary Members.
