ON the nineteenth Day of July 1771, Took Place an Act of the Legiflature of this Province, approved of by his Majefty in Council, for dividing the Pro- vince into Five Counties bv the Names of ROCKING- HAM, STRAFFORD, HILLSBOROUGH, CHES- HIRE, and GRAFTON. The Bounds of which are as follows, THE FIRST COUNTY to begin at the Mouth of Pifcataqua River; and to run up the fame to the Eaft- erly Corner of Newmarket, including the River; and from thence Northwefterly, by the Eafterly and North- erly fide Lines of Newmarket, Epping, Nottingham, Chichefter and Canterbury to the River, and down the fame to the Line of Concord, including the River, then round the Wefterly Lines of Bow, Concord and Pembroke, to Merrimack River, thence down the fame to the North Weft Corner of Derryfield, thence by the Eafterly Lines of Derryfield, Litchfield and Notting- ham Weft, to the Province Line; thence by faid Line ' to the Sea ; thence by the Sea to the Bounds firft men- tioned; including all that part of the Ifles of Shoals which belongs to this Province. THE BOUNDS OF THE THIRD COUNTY to be-in at the Southeaft Corner of Nottingham Weft; thence Wefterly by the P^'ovince Line to the South- eaft Corner of Rindge ; thence by the Eafterlv fide Line of Rindge, Monadnock No. 2, Dublin the Townfhips No. 6, No. 7, and No. 8; thence to the South End of Sunn;peePond; thence by the Eafterly side of fad Pond to the North End thereof; thence by the North- wefterly Side Line of Dantzick. Province not comprehended in the other Counties^^^ ( 5 ) And whereas the faid Counties of Strafford and Graf- ton are not fully inhabited, at prefent, but the Inhabit- ants are daily encreafing. It is further enadted, that the faid Counties of Straftbrd and Grafton, fhall be for the prefent annexed to and deemed and taken as Parts and Members of the County of Rockingham, and sub- jedl to the Jurifdicflion and Authority of the Courts, Magiftrates and Officers of the faid County of Rocking- ham to all Intents and Purpofes, and fhall remain fo annexed, deemed, taken and fubject, until the Governor, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Council, fhall declare them refpedtively fufficient for the Exer- cife of their refe(5tive jurifdi(5tions, and no longer.
