He went with his father to Eumuey JMarsh, where he held several local offices. By inheritance and jjurchase he became owner, witli liis brother John, of the great farm in Rumney Blarsh formerly belonging to John Cogau. In 1730 he transferred to son Hugh, Jr., a part of what was known as Sanford's Lot. Hugh was a meml)er of the ilaklen church to 5 Apr. 1724, when, with his wife, he joined the church of liis own district. He died 17 Nov. 1730. and liis will, proliated 31 Dec. of the same year, mentions wife Elinor, sons Samuel, Benjamin, ami Hugh, and daugh- ters Sarah I^eath and Elinor Leath, and the chOdren of deceased daughter Joanna Tuttle. children : i. John'' Floyd (./(//*«') was born at Lynn 20 Feb. 1604-5, and married Rachel P.\rkkr, daughter of Jacob and Sarah of Chelms- ford, horn '.) Mar. 1604-.T. He was made a freeman, 22 IMar. 1680-90, while living at Blalden, but removed soon after to Rumuey JMarsh, where he held various town offices and from which he was a representative on the Boston Board of Assessors for several years. He was one of the founders of the Rumney ]\Iarsh church in 1715, and seems to h.avc taken an influential jiart in local affairs. An in- dignant neighbor in a letter (IJostou Town Papers, vol. 2) calls him " Lord Ruler att AVinisimit." John Floyd was at one time a lieu- tenant in the Maiden inilitai'v compauy, and is given that rank on liis gravestone at Revert;. He died 7 Jan. 1723-4, aged 58 (grave- stone). In his will, jjrobated in 1724, he menticms son John, who was sole e.xecutor, daughters Rachel Pratt, Abigail Tuttle, and Joanna Floyd, and grandsons James and Jolm Nichols. Chiklren : 9. i. Hugh' Flotd {Hugh.- Johi^) was born 13 May 1704. He married first, 29 Apr. 1829, Mahy' Baker, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Lewis) of Lynn, l)orn 19 May 1706, died 21 Mar. 17.51 : and sec- ondly Abigail H.vsicy of Chelsea. He was a farmer and resided in Chelsea until 17.')0. shortly after wliich he removed to Mahlen. On 15 Mar. 17.59 Hugh Floyd, his wife Abigail, and two of their children, William and Susanna, and a negro gu'l ^^iolet, are recorded as haying arrived in Mcflford from i\Ialden. He there kept an inn for a few years previous to his return to Chelsea, where he died 28 Sept. 1789, aged 86. Hugh Floyd of Chelsea was appointed ad- ministrator of his estate 7 Dec. 1789. The will of his widow, Abi- gail Floyd, was presented for ])robato 9 Nov. 1789. In it slie men- tions her sister Elizabetli. Abigail Kent, Elizabeth Butman, Abigail, daughter of Ebenezer Hall, Rachel, wife of Hugh Floyd, and the hitter's daughters Rachel, Elinor, Hepzibah, and Susanna, also Lydia, daughter of Peter Floyd, and Abigail, daughter of Steplien Floyd. John'* Floyd (John"^^ John^) was born at Maiden 19 Aug. 1687. He married first, 27 May 1712, Mart Tuttle, who died 18 June 1732 ; and probably, secondly, 23 Nov. 1732, Sarah Vyal, widow of Na^ thaniel and daughter of Capt. EHsha Bennett. Chamberlain, in liis " History of Chelsea," gives Sarah Bt'lcher as the second ■nife of Joliu^ Floyd, and says that it was the sou, John'' Floyd, who married Sarah Vyal. The Belcher marriage record, however, gives John Floyd, Jr., whereas the \\aS. record, coming eight years earlier and during the lifetime of John, Sr., gives sunply John Floyd. He married thirdly, 24 Aug. 1763, Hannah (Bellamy) Bill, widow of Jonathan. John Floyd was a husbandman and lived in Chelsea, \\'here he died 4 Nov. 177.5, aged 89. His will was probated 6 Feb. 1776. In it he mentions son J.ames ; son Jacob, who was to be kept comfortably by brother .lames and was to be supplied with all ne- cessai'ies and to live in the deceased's house as long as he chose ; 1. ii. He l^iught a hou.se and land in Medford of John Bishop 14 Mar. 17(;'.l. Noah Floyd was a soldier in the Revolution, serving in the lines at Boston from 20 M.ar. to 5 Apr. 1776. He resided for a short time in Maiden, and his name is on the Revolutionary soldiers' monument there. He died G Nov. 1783, and Eunice, his wiie, died 24 Feb. 1807, both at Medford. In the settlement of his estate mention was made of eldest son Isaac, and of daughters Eunice, Lois, Deborah and Lucy. He married first, 30 Apr. 1770, Rebecca Greexleaf, daughter of Gardner and Catherine (Thompson), born 2.5 Sept. 1750, died 1 Nov. 1804; and secondly, 10 Oct. 1812, Elizabeth Bel- lows. He died 17 Jidy 1817, and his will was probated 1'.) Aug. of the same year. In it he mentions sons Benjamin, 3d, and .James Thompson, who were appointed executors, daughters Rebekah Floyd, Catherine, wife of Aaron ChUds, Joanna, wife of Kendall Parker, AbigaU, wife of Samuel Teel, and wife Elizabeth. Benja- min, 3d, was probably so called to distinguish him fi-om his cousin Benjamin^ Floyd (No. 28), also of Medford. Children : 27. i. Benjamin died before 30 Jlay 1763, when the widow Ruth was appointed aihninistratrix of liis estate. In 1771 Ebenezer Brooks of MetU'ord was appointed guardian of Benjamin, son of Benjamin Floyd deceased, a minor over fourteen. On 31 Mar. 1806 Ruth Floyd of Medford, widow, sold to Benjamin Floyd, Jr., of Roxbury, housewright, all the houses and lands in Medford which foruierly belonged to Benjamin Floyd, late of Medford, mariner. Andrew'' Floyd (Hugh," BiigJi,^ Jokti^) was bom at Chelsea 17 ■ 1743. lu 1751) liis father moved to Meilfonl, and Andrew resided there the greater part of his life, though at one time he was living in Roxburv, as he is called of that place 31 Oct. 176.5, when he married Elizabeth Bradshaw of Meilford, and on 31 Aug. 176(3, when he owned the covenant. On 20 M:ir. 1771 he bought land in Med- ford, but sold it again a month later. The latter deed is signed by Andrew Floyd of IMedford, tailor, and Elizabeth his wife. He was a soldier in the Revolution, and died at Meilford 12 !Nov. 1789, as did Ills widow, 3 Feb. 1792. Children : i. Andrew,' bapt. at Eoxbury 31 Aug. 176G. ii. Her parentage is uot given on the record, and it is doubtful to whom she belonged. 21. John'' Floyd (John,^ Johi,^ Joltn''^) was baptized at Eumney Marsh 1 Apr. 1716. He married (probably), 9 Dee. 1740, Sarah Belcher,* daughter of Ens. Joseph and Hannah (Bill). John'' Floyd was mentioned in his father's will, proljated 6 Feb. 1776, as having died. The -wVlI of widow Sarah, presented for probate 12 Apr. 1768, makes son Richard executor, and names daughter Sarah Truman. On 9 Nov. 1773 John and Sarah Truman sold to Richard Floyd all claim to a share in theii- mother, .Sarah Floyd's property, and on 8 Apr. 1784 John Truman of Boston and Sarah his wife sold to Elizabeth Floyd, widow, of Boston, all right and title to cer- tain real estate there. James'' Floyd {John," John." /»/(«') was born at Rumney Marsh 30 Oct. 1729. He married, 3 Mar. 1757, Hannah Bill, daughter of Jonathan and Hannah (Bellamy), liorn 3 Nov. 1735. Her mother, after the death of Jonathan Bill, married John* Floyd (No 9). tlius becoming the step-mother of her son-in-law. James Floyd died 31 Oct. 1822, aged 93. In his vdW, probated 2 Dec. 1822, he mentions wife Hannah, sons James, Jacob, and John, each of whom was to receive one third part of the real estate, and daughters Hannah But- man, and Charlotte and JMary Floyd ; son James to be executor. He removed to Saugus, where he died 17 .Sept. 1839, aged 61. His widow, Sarah, was appointed administratrix of his estate 8 Jan. 1840. On 7 Apr. 1840 Sarah Floyd applied to the court for an allowance from the estate of her husband, stating that she had five children. He lived at Chelsea, was chosen deacon in 1806, and in the records was variously called captain, deacon, gentleman, or yeoman. His death occurred 3 Feb. 1851. Children, by first wife : i.
