In compliance with instructions of the Secretary of War, dated June 12, 1905, a board of officers to be known as the "Board on Church Claims" is hereby con- vened, to meet at these headquarters at 9 o'clock a. m. August 1, 1905, to investigate and report upon such claims as may be submitted to it from these headquarters. Detail for the board: Lieut. Col. John A. Hull, judge-advocate; Lieut. Col. Alex- ander O. Brodie, militaty secretary; Maj. William W. Gibson, General Staff. Pres- ^„--, --^ de Ultramar for rent of the Mandaloya Orphan Asjhun, at San Felipe Neri, Rizal, Luzon, occupied b}' American troops. The claim is for rent, forty-five and one-half months, at $;")()0. United States currenc}^, per month — $2'2,750. The Compaiiia Agricola de Ultramar is a corporation, oroanizcd and A^ned b}^ the Augustinian friars, and is the owner of the Mandaloya rphan Asylum. This property was occupied for many years by the ow O 4 CLAIM OF THE MANDALOYA ORPHAN ASYLUM. Sisters of Charity, until San Felipe Neri was bombarded by the Span- iards, June 6, 1898. It was then abandoned by the church, and occu- pied by the insurgent army until it was taken by the American troops, February 4, 1899. *^ . The board at a previous meeting made a personal inspection of this property. From the report of a board of officers, hereto appended and marked '' Exhibit B," it was recommended that $150, United States currency, per month be paid. The board considers this amount to be fair and ample. The American troops vacated this property Decem- ber 22, 1902. The board, after considering- all the evidence, hereto appended I nd marked " Exhibits A,"" ''B,'' and "C," recommend that 16,825, Ignited States currency, be paid for rent of this property. J. A.
