C. R. 7. r HEALING. DEPARTMENT Christ Method of HeaHng. SCIENCE OF LIFE VIBRATION' AT The Institute of Telepathy, 438 Broadway, Denver, Colo. It heals any disease, at any distance, in- stantly, under proper conditions. Cases pronounced incurable are so- licited. Expenses according to the appealer's ability. FOUR CONDITIONS FOR HEALING. I — The appealer must intensely desire healing for self or others. 2 — Medicine and medical advice must be abandoned in order that the source of healing may be known. 3 — And the appealer must be willing to compensate for healing according to ability. 4 — The Christ or Spirit of Truth, or Ill- imitable Life Source, Our Father, must receive all the honor for healing. Sincerely yours for human progress, Sidney A. Gaylor, Principal, 438 Broadway, Denver, Colo. Note — Telepathy may be applied also in education, and in all business and social affairs, in which invisible, accurate and rapid communication is required. THE First Four Outline Lessons / / FIRST BOOK OF TELEPATHY, \ THE SCIENCE OF LIFE \ VIBRATION. . BY WHICH Any human organism may learn to transfer its feelings, thots and knowledg*^ to others, invisibly, accurately, at any distance, and as rapidly as it can think; thus inspiring them with its desires and aspirations for good, with corresponding increase in their power of perception, and secure instant and accurate response. By Sidney A.' Gaylor, Principal of the Institute of Telepathy at Denver, Colorado, and formulator of the Science of Life Vibration a. d. 1S92. c. r. 7. Formerly Kditor of the Comparer of New York City, the first Illustrated Religious paper ever published, and of the Pacificator of New Haven, Hartford and Springfield simultaneously, and of the Weekly and Daily Journal, Worcester, Mass., and of the Kansas Expositor of Topeka, Kan., and of the Gospel Visitor and the Sun Rise of Denver, Colorado. Entered according to act of Congress, in the year 1892 by Sidney A. Gaylor, in the office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington, D. C. — 2 — THIS BOOK Is designed to explain what Telepathy is, and why it is practical, and introduce the Institute of Telepathy and its work, at Denver, Colorado, and offer an oppor- tunity to students who cannot attend it to study and learn to practice the Science of Life Vibration at their homes. Each monthly volume will contain four outline lessons, including, in abbreviated form, the substance of the lessons given each week in the local Institute, with facilities and instructions for practice with the Institute as fast as the students are prepared for these experiments. Each monthly volume will also contain items of interest from students and from the twenty-five Institutes of Telepathy, from Denver to Denver around the world between the 30th and 50th parallels of north latitude, through the most populous, enlightened and wealthy portion of the earth. PRACTICE. Students may profitably begin to apply the Science in healing self, while studying the second volume of the book; but ex- periments in education and general com- munication should be deferred until the first four consecutive volumes have been studied; then the fifth volume will contain instructions and offer facilities for students to practice in these departments. The Principal's ability to inspire each student with his aspirations for progress, and increased power of perception will be available, and the use of this natural and — 3- acquired abilit}^ will be of great value to every student who complies with the reasonable conditions for securing it. LESSON 1. DEFINITIONS. Attraction — The invisible, illimitable life force of the universe, which evolves all organisms and causes unceasing vibra- tion in all substance. The most refined phase of attraction operating in the human organism we call love. Atoms — The visible and invisible par- ticles of which all substance is composed. Force — Whatever tends to move any- thing. Three classes of force are here recognized, namely: (i) Life force; (2) Mechanical force, and (3) Chemical force. Life Force is illimitable, and forms, feeds, sustains and controls all organisms, sentient and non-sentient. It includes all phases of primary force, and operates most powerfully in and through the human organism. Mechanical Force includes all phases of force produced by machinery, and is dependent on the human life force for its existence and operative ability. Chemical Force is all produced by chemical action. Law — The necessity of substance to act in the same way invariably, under the same conditions. Organism — Any substance composed of organs, and formed and operated by some / — 4 — phase of life force in it. Visible organs have form, invisible are formless. Substance — All of which the universe is composed — both visible and invisible — including all phases of attraction. Truth — Is the reality of things in their proper internal and external relation. Universe — Everything, everywhere and eternally; all worlds of all systems of worlds; all things and all peoples of all worlds; all that is. The extent of our universe depends on the extent of our knowledge. A little child recognizes a small universe, because it has only a little knowledge. Vibration — Movement, oscillation, slow or fast, according to the refinement of the vibrating substance. Instance, the sea contains little life force, and its vibrations are slow, only one every twelve hours. Light being much more refined, its vibra- tions travel 18,000 miles per second. Vibrations may be co-extensive with the vibrating substance. The most powerful life vibrations or thots are produced by the most powerful phase of attraction operating in and through the mental de- partment of the human organism. It is called love. Will — Human desire intensified; the life force of the human organism. It may be increased by increasing human knowl- edge. In telepathy, the will corresponds to the operator in telegraphy. — 5 — TELEPATHY. The Science of Life Vibration and Some of Its Uses. This Science of Life Vibration begins with what manifestly is, namely, Life- force or Attraction — and with what we know of the formation and operation of the human organism. It is called Telepathy, because Webster very properly gives the name to- all that was known of it when the last edition of that dictionary was published. The Science of Life Vibration is as far beyond all phases of mental science as the illimitable life force of the universe is more extensive, refined, powerful, un- changeable and reliable than the ever changing feelings and thots of the human mind, which we know are depend- ent on the illimitable life force or attrac- tion for their existence and operative ability. By this science any human organism may learn to transfer its feelings, thots and knowledge to others invisibl3% accur- atel}^ at an^^ distance, and as rapidly as it can think; inspiring them with its de- sires and aspirations for good and in- creased power of perception; and secure accurate and instant response. There- fore Telepathy may be applied I. in general communication. It may be useful for invisible, accurate and quick communication on all business and social subjects, at any distance, and — 6 — when no other method of communication is possible. 2, IN EDUCATION. By the apphcation of Telepathy in home and school education, the most rapid and permanent progress may be secured; for by it the parents and teachers can learn to inspire the children with their desires and aspirations for unfold- ment, and enable them to secure it, by increasing their power of perception, 3. IN HEALING. As the vibrations are life itself, they instantly re-inforce the life force of the organism appealing for it; hence its use- fulness in healing all disease, and 'under proper conditions, the healing is instan- taneous and certain. No long series of expensive treatments are necessary, be- cause this is not merely mental work, but spiritual or life force operating. It is the work of the most powerful phase of life force or attraction. And during all past historic ages, a few people in all countries have limitedly and unscientifically prac- ticed healing in this way, without know- ing the why and how. In the Bible of Christendom, Jewish history gives many remarkable cases of healing and deliverance by the illimitable life force operating in and through the human organisms, which it had formed and fed, and sustained, and which had learned to let the life force operate in and through them naturally; and this was — 7 — simply practicing the undeveloped science of life vibration. Later, Jesus and his disciples and apos- tles healed many by telepathy, even re- storing life to inanimate human bodies, and did many other so called miracles, by understanding and obeying the illimita- ble life force of them. The same operating now, is beginning to be called the science of life vibration; because we are learning the why and how. And during the last few years, in all nominal Christian countries, through some of the sect called Christian Scientists, and others, the illimitable life force has healed thousands of cases, many of which had been pronounced incurable by the attend- ing ph^^sicians. Though whatever efforts may have been made by them, to establish a science of healing, they have not been entirely suc- cessful, for they all admit some uncertain- ty which may be attributable to their un- certain basis, of feelings and thots, which are ever changing with the con- stantly changing physical conditions. They either partially or entirel}' fail to recognize the real illimitable life force, the spiritual department of the human or- ganism, which is the only reliable source of healing, and which naturally' operates the mental, and is one with the illimitable life force or attraction itself, and the most powerful phase of attraction or life force. They fail to recognize this, the only force that can re-inforce the mental and physical phases of itself — and hence their uncer- tainty. — 8 — A so-called science, based on the ever- changing feelings and thots of the human mind only, must be unreliable. It is like the house built on the sand. But the Science of Life Vibration is based on the eternal, unchangeable life force of the uni- verse, which includes all phases of force, and therefore is solid and reliable, PERSONAL RECOLLECTIONS. In 1874 I began 10 think of the subject of life vibration; but not the name, and during that year my life was saved by its power unnerving a man, so he could not hurt me by shooting at me three times with a revolver, at a distance of about six feet. I was unarmed, but well protected. In 1876 my life was again saved, by tel- epathy preventing my reaching an am- bush of six robbers. In 1877 both of my little daughters were healed of violent fevers by life vibration. In 187S I came suddenly near a large brown bear, in the mountains, which reared up for fight; but telepathy caused it to run away immediately. From that year I practiced telepathy limitedly in communicating my wishes to my children, and often in healing both them and myself, and for several years have not depended on any other healing, for either self or others. In 1882, while camping in the moun- tains with my little children, the dog chased, two young brown bears up a tree; the old bear chased the dog to us, and, when near, she reared up to attack us; I — 9 — shot at her, the gun bursted, and both bear and myself fell. The wounded bear reared up for fight again; I remembered telepathy, applied it, and the bear ran down the canon immediately, leaving us safe from further harm. SEVEN BENEFITS SECURED BY TELEPATHY, THE SCIENCE OF LIFE VIBRATION. 1. By it I may learn to heal myself of any disease, and preserve my health in all conditions and under all circumstances. 2. By telepathy I can know of any im- pending danger of any kind in time to avert it, invariably. If the danger is from human organisms I can impart my desire for peace to them and change their hatred to love instantly, and thus protect myself and others perfectly. I 3- It will enable me to secure justice for myself and others in all cases. 4. By it I can learn to answer any ques- tion on any subject correctly, and can teach others to do the same. 5. And telepathy enables me to con- trol all my spiritual and mental condi- tions and relations, as well as the physical; thus securing happiness as certainly as health. 6. And best of all, the science of life vibration enables any parent or teacher to transfer their feelings, thots and knowledge to the children without words or signs, instantly, inspiring the children with the parent or teacher's desires and aspirations for knowledge and progress with corresponding increase in their power of perception. 7- By telepathy we may get news around the world seven times in seventy seconds. I, means every reader. LESSON 11. WHAT IS TELEPATHY? TELEPATHY IS THE SCIENCE OF LIFE VIBRA- TION By which any human organism may learn to transfer its feelings, thots and knowledge to others invisibly, accurately, at any distance, and as rapidly as it can think, thus inspiring them with its desires and aspirations for good, with correspond- ing increase in their power of perception, and secure instant, accurate response. TELEPATHY IS APPLICABLE: .1. In both home and school education. 2. In healing all disease, and 3. In all business and social affairs. THE SEVEN CONDITIONS ON WHICH TELEPATHY, THE SCIENCE OF LIFE VIBRATION, DEPENDS. 1. Telepathy depends on the existence of illimitable life force or attraction, and on its being the most refined of substance. 2. This life force or attraction must be one, and in everything everywhere. 3. It must be atomized. 4. And it must all be under one law, or necessity to act in the same way in- variably, under the same conditions. 5. It must be vibratory. 6. Its vibrations must be the most rapid, most powerful, and most accurate. 7. There must be organisms in it with sufficient knowledge to vibrate it and direct it vibrations. OUTLINE BASIS OF TELEPATHY, SHOWING THE EXISTENCE OF THE SEVEN NECESSARY CONDITIONS. 1. Life force or attraction is — and it is the most refined of substance. 2. To the extent of our knowledge, life force or attraction is illimitable, and nec- essarily one, and in everything every- where, though differing in degrees of refinement. 3. We know that visible substance is atomized and the whole musr be like its parts in composition; the invisible is a part of the whole of substance, therefore it is atomized. 4. The law or necessity of life force or attraction in the visible substance, under proper conditions, is to draw like atoms together to form and evolve classes of more complex-like organisms. This law must apply to invisible substance also, for the law of the whole must be the law of every part of it. 5. This life force or attraction being illimitable, it is in every atom of substance everywhere, causing them to move in com- ing together, producing unceasing vibra- tion in all substance, and therefore itself is vibratory. And as the life force is illim- itable its vibrations are illimitable also, and may reach any desired point or organ- ism in the universe. 6. Physical science demonstrates that the more refined a substance the more rapid its vibrations, and this same law applies in invisible substance also, and illimitable life force or attraction being the most refined of substance, therefore its vibrations are the most rapid, and most powerful and most accurate. 7. The human organism being the most refined and complex, it is the most powerful organism known, and as the law or necessity of it is to think or vibrate in this illimitable life force or attraction, and as its action in vibrating is silent and in- visible, it certainly can succeed in doing the work for which it is perfectly adapted, and which is necessary for its existence in a normal condition. Again, the human organism has invented telegraph apparatus with which it can com- municate by vibrating electricity, which is only an inferior phase of life force or attraction, and certainly the superior life force of the human organism that controls electricity — the illimitable life force or attraction, which forms and feeds, and sustains and develops, and operates the human organism and everything else — may be relied on, under proper conditions, to communicate, by vibrating and direct- ing its own vibrations with others like itself, in substance and in modes of oper- ating. But to avoid any erroneous conclusions — 13 — concerning the ability of the iUimitable life force or attraction to obey the law or necessity of itself in its organized centers of attraction in human organisms to com- municate with each other invisibly and accurately, let us examine the LESSON III. OUTLINE OF THE FORMATION AND OPERATION OF THE HUMAN ORGANISM. As the human organism is the most re- fined and complex, it is, therefore, the most powerful organism of which we have any knowledge. And like all otherorganisms, it is formed by attraction, and as it is capable of more knowledge than any other organism, it is, therefore, able to exercise more attraction or life force or desire. Attraction begins the human organ- ism and feeds and sustains and de- velops and directs, and should control it. This organism is composed of three de- partments, namely, the physical, the mental and spiritual, and as soon as the formation is begun at birth, the spiritual or life force or desire begins to move and direct and control the mental depart- ment and to move and direct and control the physical through or by the mental, and if this process were allowed to go on naturally, it would soon evolve perfect, comfortable and happ}^ human organisms. — 14 — Surely, the illimitable life force or attraction, which forms and feeds and sustains the human organism, may be re- lied on to direct and control the whole through the spiritual department of it, which naturally moves and directs the mental, which should do the same in and for the physical department. And when the physical becomes dis- ordered and improperly related, either internally or externally, the illimitable life force of it, and of which it is, should be able and competent to repair and regulate and correct all tnat may be dis- ordered or improperly related, especially since this human organism is the most powerful known, and the most powerful because it can know more, and, therefore, desire more, and necessarily do more; than all others; it contains more life force or attraction; it can desire more. Life force has many phases, even in visible substance, seen in the mineral, vegetable and animal classes of it, and we will now consider briefly the most power- ful phase of human attraction, called LOVE, which is the most refined phase of attrac- tion, or life force, and is that which is unceasingly drawing like atoms of sub- stance together, forming like organisms in all substance, from the classes of minerals to the systems of worlds, caus- ing unceasing vibration of all substance, and invariably evolving something better — more refined and more powerful organ- isms — making- known the universal law — 15 — of evolution to be from good to better- eternally, because love being the most refined of all substance, its action upon all tends to refine all, or make all like itself, and as the human organism can know more, it can, therefore, love more, and desire more, and can also do more than any other known organism — be- cause it is the most powerful. And this unequaled power can also be increased, for by increasing our knowledge we intensify our desires or attraction or love, and thus increase our power, giving us ability to do more, and as our ability to increase our knowledge is unlimited, our power also must be without limit; hence, like Jesus, we may each learn to recognize and realize the truth that " I and my father (or feeder) are one," and therefore with him claim that all power is given unto me in both visible and invisible sub- stance. The love center or center of attraction of every human organism will always at- tract or draw atoms like itself, to itself, thus ever increasing itself by attraction, which is the law of itself, while properly related internally and externally. The mental and physical departments of the human organism which love, by attraction, forms and feeds and sustains, and directs and develops, may be disor- ganized by the same force; but thespiritual or love center cannot be disorganized. Love cannot die, hence our continued identity or spiritual existence is a cer- tainty, because the life or love center is indestructible, and therefore eternal. At- — re- traction being all the force there is, and love the most powerful phase of it, there is no power to destroy it. ITS OPERATION. The love center or spiritual department or desire of the human organism operates the mental, and the mental moves and directs the physical. Thus we see that the spiritual department not only has ability; but it is the function and law of the life force or center of attraction to move and feed and sustain and direct and control and develop both the mental and physical departments of the human or- ganism, and to control all their internal and external conditions and relations; and this is why it can and does heal all dis- ease, or not ease, which is only the result of a disordei"ed condition of the mental or physical departments of the organism, either internal or external, or both. And now we may begin to understand from the foregoing statements of truth why neither physical nor mental force can heal disease, and why the illimitable life force through the spiritual department, by the desire of the human organism, can and does heal all disease under proper conditions. TELEGRAPHY AND TELEPATHY CORRESPONDENCES. 1, Illimitable electricity corresponds to illimitable life force or attraction. 2. The office is the whole human or- — 17 — ganism, including its physical, mental and spiritual departments. 3. The battery is the sum of acquired knowledge, by sensation, reason and in- tuition. 4. The Vibrator is the mental depart- ment of the human organism. 5. The conductor is the love itself. 6. The insulator is the harmony or mutual desire in the appealer and re- sponder. 7. The operator is the will or intensi- fied desire of the appealer or responder, or both. IN TELEGRAPHY, THE TELEGRAPH OFFICE CORRESPONDS TO THE HUMAN ORGANISM — IN TELEPATHY. The electric telegraph offices are in the illimitable electricity, and correspond to the human organism in the illimitable life substance or attraction, and as the bat- tery accumulates and conserves the electricity, so the physical and mental departments of the human organism ac- cumulate and conserve illimitable life force, attraction or desire, by attention and concentration of thot or mental vibration, until the will, or desire, or life force, or attraction is sufficiently intensi- fied to transmit itself to another organism in harmony with it, and as the telegraph operator transmits the message by using the vibrator, so the human will, or inten- sified desire, or life force, or attraction reproduces itself in the other harmonious self, by letting the illimitable life force. attraction or love, operate naturally. As the electricity operates through the office, so the illimitable life force operates through the human organism — and the human organism operates in and by the illimitable life substance, and as the illim- itable electricity cannot be utilized until it is concentrated, and more in one place than another, then it is the law, or nature, or necessity of it to rush to the point hav- ing less. So with this life force or most powerful phase of attraction — one human organism has less because it has less knowledge of itself, and it naturally appeals to the one having more, and it as naturally responds, silently and invisibly, and invariably, and instantly re-enforces the appealer — with the exact life force needed — and this ap- peal and response is as natural as for the currents of electricity to pass from the cloud having more to the one in its vicinity having less, until a natural equilibrium is secured. LESSON IV. OUTLINE REVIEW . OF FIRST FOUR LESSONS. WHAT IS TELEPATHY? I . It is the Science of Life Vibration by which any human organism may learn to transfer its feelings, thots and knowl- edge to others, invisibly, accurately, at any distance and as rapidly as it can think, thus inspiring them with its desires and — 19 — aspirations for good with a corresponding increase in their power of perception, and secure instant and accurate response. Hence, Telepathy is applicable to edu- cation, healing, and in general communica- tion in all business and social affairs. WHY PRACTICAL. 2. Because the illimitable life force or attraction is vibratory, and the most re- fined of substance; and the spiritual de- partment or center of attraction, or love center of the human organism, through which the illimitable operates, is the most powerful organism known, and can there- fore be relied on to vibrate and direct its own vibrations, which are the most power- ful, and, therefore, the most accurate. The conditions, and law or necessity which makes telepathy possible, also makes inaccuracy impossible. Life vibra- tions being the most powerful known, there is nothing to divert or stop them. Telepathy has been limitedly and un- scientifically practiced by a few among all historical peoples of past ages, and is now being practiced in healing thousands of cases annually that have been pro- nounced incurable by the attending phy- sicians, though these so-called Christian Scientists concede that the results of their efforts are somewhat uncertain, so that instantaneous healing occurs only occa- sionally. HOW. Healing is done by mutual, intense desire, in the appealer and responder; sufficiently intense to enable them to let the illimitable life force or attraction operate in and through them naturally. The science applied in education en- ables the parent and teacher to inspire the children with their desires and aspira- tions for progress and increased power of perception, thus insuring success. AVERTING DANGER. Telepathy enables the student to know of any impending danger of any kind, in time to avert it invariably. If the danger is from human organismf the student can impart the desire for peace to them, and change their hate to love instantly; thus protecting self and others perfectly. And by the Science of Life Vibration, we may learn to get news around the world seven times in seventy seconds. " LEVELERS." In Columbus' time many may have said, " I don't believe there is any other continent, because /never heard of it; and, in fact, I never even thought of it." Yet the continent is here, and its central por- tion is now inhabited by 60,000,000 of the most liberty-loving, progressive people on earth, whose starry flag is respected every- where, and is enabling the formulator of the Science of Life Vibration to establish a chain of twenty-five Institutes of Tele- pathy around the world from Denver to Denver, between the 30th and 50th parall- els of north latitdue, through the most populous, enlightened and wealthy portion of the earth. And though Franklin, Fulton, Morse, and Edison may have often heard unde- veloped people say: " I don't believe it can be done, because / never thought of it," yet hundreds of thousands of steamers plow all oceans, lakes and navigable rivers, and millions of railroad trains are running everywhere, and a perfect network of tel- egraph and telephone and electric light wires almost overspread the earth — and all this and much more has been done during the last sixty years. And now the most powerful phase of life force or at- traction is beginning to be investigated, and may accomplish more during the next ten years than steam and electricity has during the last sixty years. THE LAST THE BEST. TELEPATHY THE SCIENCE OF LIFE VIBRATION Is as far in advance of all phases of mental science, including Christian Sci- ence, Theosophy, Spiritualism, etc., as their most advanced phases are ahead of the superstitions of the most degraded tribes of Africa. The science of life vibration is as much more comprehensive in scope, and re- fined, and powerful, and accurate in its operations than any phase of mental sci- ence, as the eternal, illimitable, unchange- able life force or attraction itself is more extensive, refined, powerful, and accurate than the limited, weak, inaccurate, ever- changing activities, feelings and thots of the human mind, which are entirely de- pendent on the illimitable life force or at- traction for their existence and operative ability. We know tliat our feelings and thots are continually changed by every internal and external change in the physi- cal conditions, or relations, either real or imaginary. But this eternal, illimitable life force or attraction which forms aud feeds, and sustains and directs the mental and physical departments of the human organism never changes; it is eternal Peace, and always in perfect harmony with itself, and with all of its illimitable internal and external conditions and re- lations. The science of life vibration is as far in advance of any science of feelings and thots, or mental activities, as the Sun itself is more powerful and reliable than a few of its rays, which are always liable to interruption, and may be entirely shut out of the best room. And it is as far beyond all the operations of what is called human minci, as the lightning itself is more powerful and useful than the flash and thunder it produces. The illimitable life force or attraction is the source of all power itself, the feel- ings and thots are produced and directed by this source, the illimitable life force or attraction, but they are always liable to changes, from both external and internal physical conditions, and hence are always unreliable. And there is no law for feelings and thots in themselves, except that they must change by the ever uncertain and changing conditions and relations of the physical department of the human organ- ism. They cannot possibly furnish any rehable basis for so-called mental science, for the only reliable and permanent basis for science is the existence of a law or necessity for the thing to act in the 'same way invariably under the same condi- tions, and this is impossible in the feel- ings and thots or mental activities of the human organism, for the reasons above stated, namely, their constant liability to unceasing interruptions from both inter- nal and external physical conditions and relations. But nothing can possibly change the conditions or operations of the eternal, illimitable life force or attraction, the most powerful phase of force, the illimit- able life of all things, and the former and feeder, and sustainer and director of all organisms, both sentient and non-sentient. It cannot change in either quality or operation, and is therefore reliable, be- cause it is the eternal law or necessity of itself to act in the same way, invariably under the samxe conditions, and on this eternal, unchangeable law or necessity of illimitable life force or attraction, the Science of Life Vibration is based, and as the life force or attraction is illimitable, and includes air phases of force or at- traction, it is all the force there is, and of course there is nothing to interfere, hinder or stop either its existence or nat- ural activities. To learn to let this illimitable life force or attraction operate and control the human organism naturally, is the aim of Telepathy, the Science of Life Vibration. THE FIRST ON EARTH.
