RULE 1.— First find the day of the week Jan. 1st of the required year falls on, by dividing the first two figures of die year by 4, the remainder, 1, 2, 3 or (no remainder), will indicate in which of the four columns of days in table 1 the day is to be found; the day in that column en the same horizontal line with the last two figures of the year is the day sought for. RULE 2. — Look for the day found by rule 1, in table 2, o?i the same horizontal line ivith the required month ; the day in that column on the same horizontal line with the figures repre- senting the day of the month, is the day sought for. R ULE 3.— In leap year, that is, after Feb. 29th, add one day to the one found by rule 2. Not?:. The leap years are indicated by being printed in Full F.ice Tvpe. EXAMPLE-. July 4th, 1879, what will be the day of the week ? By rule 1, 18 divided by 4 is 4 and 2 remainder. In column 2 of table 1 on the same line with 70 is Wednesday. By rule 2 we find Wednesday in table 2 on the same line with July ; and going down that column of days we find Friday on the same line with the figure 4, which h the day sought for. Sept. 17th, 1976, what will be the day of the week? By proceed- ing exactly as in first example, we get Thursday, but as 1970 is a leap year,' and Sept. l?th is after Feb. 29th, we add one day making Friday the correct one.
