When industry goes out of the door, poverty comes in at the window. Who undertakes many things at once, seldom does any- thing well. Potatoes of medium size should be boiled until they can be pierced to the centre easily with a fork. A good fame is better than a good face. A man of words and not of deeds, Is like a garden full of weeds. A man can never thrive who has a wasteful wife. Milk keeps longer from souring in a shallow pan than in a pitcher. Don't overeat. Don't starve. Never despair. Spending your money with many a guest, empties the kitchen, the cellar and chest. A handful of common sense is worth a bushel of learning. Gold can buy nearly everything in this world, except that which a man wants most — happiness. It is not how long but how well we live. Milk that has become sour may be sweetened or rend- ered tit for use again by stirring in a little soda. Better a little in peace and with right, than much with anxiety and strife. You may take the greatest trouble, and by turning it around, find joys on the other side. No one is a fool always, every one sometimes. For age and want save while you may, No morning sun lasts all the day. Work to-day for you know not how much you may be hindered to-morrow. Always taking out of the meal tub and never putting in, soon comes to the bottom. When the well is dry, they know the worth of water. Cabbage ( whole head and hard ) should be cooked two hours.
