Kinlcy 5 u xx: PPER SANDUSKY, tlie county seat of Wyandot County, the home of the Wyandot Indians who gave it this name, is on the west hank of the Sandusky river, sixty-three miles north of Columhus. at the crossing of the Pennsylvania and Hocking V alley Railroads. Since the dawn of the nineteenth century this Indian V Jlage has heen a spot or great historical inetrest. Within a tew miles of this village is -where Colonel Crawford, in June, 1782, met his defeat and was subsequently hurned at the stake. Here, General Harrison, during the -war of 1812, huilt Fort Ferree, which was visited hy Charles Dickens in 1842. The noted spring is still quenching the thirst of many visitors who visit the crystal fountain. Here also was built the first Protestant Mission in America hy the Methodists in 1824, -which is visited hy tourists from all parts of the world. Within the shade of the sacred walls of this inspiring shrine lie buried the dead NWyandots -who worshiped there when Between-the-Logs. Mononcue and other celebrated Wyandot Indians- .proclaimed the Gospel of "The Christ of Them. Here also was the largest tree east of the Rockies.,."" Upper Sandusky is not only noted for its past history. It is noted for its beautiful wide streets which are shaded by majestic maple and elm trees, its magnificent public buildings, elegant fountain, well-kept lawns and beautiful modern homes. It has two daily newspapers which would be a cred.t to a much larger city.
