Boyd Hakilto.v, State Printer. mr- Ü415 I COMMUNICATION. Audito* General's Office, ) Harrisburg, Marek 30, 1853. ^ To Ho.n. a. Brower Lo.vgaker, Speaker of the House of Representatives : Sir:—In compliance with a resolution of the House of RepresentatiTes, adopted on the 17th inst., requesting the Auditor General to furnish the House with a statement of the receipts and expenditures on the Delaware division, Susquehanna division. Upper and Lower North Branch and West Branch divisions of the Pennsylvania canals, from the year 1851 to 1857, inclusive, I have the honor to transmit, herewith, a statement giving the information desired, in addition to which is appended the cost of construction of said divisions. The cost of the works embraces everything in the way of con¬ struction proper, as well as all other items properly chargeable to that account. Whilst the expenditures, ordinary and extraordinary, as set opposite to each year, has reference to the amount actually settled at the accountant depart¬ ment during that year, and it frequently occurs that a considerable portion of tlie amount settled is for debts contracted and due prior to the year in which such accounts are settled. The revenue comprises the amount actually paid into the State Treasury. ITie receipts and expenditures at the Collector's office, Northumberland, are ap|K)rtioned to ihe three lines terminating at that point. It may be proper to remark, that great care has been taken in the prepara¬ tion of said statement, and that nothing has been omitted, or erroneously included in the same, to render it other than a full, fair and unreserved expo¬ sition. I am, very respectfully. Your obedient servant, JACOB FRY, Jr., Auditor Gentrai.
