 Applications having been frequently 
 made to the friends of Liberal Chris- 
 tianity, for publications explanatory of 
 their views, it has been thought expedi- 
 ent to adopt measures for the gratuitous 
 distribution of such works, to the end, 
 that not only they who are able to pur- 
 chase may be instructed, but others also, 
 whose circumstances render such a course 
 impracticable. An Association, whose 
 members, while they take a decided stand 
 in relation to the doctrines of their faith, 
 freely exposing error and uncharitable- 
 ness, by exhibiting truth in the spirit of 
 christian love, aim to foster in no degree 
 the spirit of party, but endeavour to 
 evince that they are governed by that be- 
 nign characteristic of the religion of Je- 
 sus, which, with all meekness and bro- 
 therly kindness, seeks the welfare of the 
 human family, cannot fail of accomplish- 
 ing valuable purposes. 
 
 The books distributed should be freely 
 
disposed of, where they are wanted, or 
 where it is probable their perusal would 
 be productive of good ; but on no occa- 
 sion obtruded where they are uncalled 
 for, or where no beneficial effects would 
 result from their distribution ; and while 
 any proffered aid of funds for the pur- 
 chase of books, pamphlets, &c. should 
 be gladly and gratefully received, care 
 should be taken to avoid the adoption of 
 any measures for that pur[)Ose, which 
 might give offence to the friends of the 
 object proposed, or to the community at 
 large. 
 
 Having formed an Association for the 
 purposes before named, we have, for the 
 more methodical and certain promotion 
 of its objects, adopted the following 
 
 CONSTITUTION- 
 
 ARTICLE I. 
 
 This Association shall be called the UNITA- 
 RIAN BOOK AND PAMPHLET SOCIETY. 
 
 ARTICLE II. 
 
 Any individual may be a member of this society, 
 by paying annually into the Treasury, a sum not 
 less than one dollar. 
 
ARTICLE III, 
 
 The concerns of the society shall be managed by 
 a President, Vice-President^ Secretary, Treasurer, 
 and three Directors, who shall together constitute 
 the Government, (to be chosen on the last Monday 
 of April, annually, by ballot, on one general ticket,) 
 whose duty it shall be to adopt the best measures 
 for the welfare ot the institution, and make a report 
 of their doings to the society, semi-annually. 
 
 ARTICLE IV. 
 
 The President shall preside at all meetings of the 
 society, and of the government, which last he shall 
 cause to be held, whenever the interest of the socie- 
 ty may require. In the absence of the President^ 
 the Vice-President shall preside. 
 
 ARTICLE V. 
 
 In case of any omission to elect the officers, at 
 the time designated, the incumbents shall hold their 
 places until a new choice shall have been made. 
 
 ARTICLE VI. 
 
 The regular meetings of the society shall be at 
 such places as the President may direct, on the last 
 Mondays of April and October, respectively. Spe- 
 cial meetings may be called by the President, when 
 he shall consider it necessary, or when it shall be 
 so considered by the government. 
 
 All meetings of the society shall be advertised in, 
 1* 
 
at least, two papers, and members shall be notified 
 individually, by special printed notifications. 
 
 ARTICLE VII. 
 
 There shall be deposited for gratuitous distribu- 
 tion, at some convenient place selected by the gov- 
 ernment, a collection of such publications as they 
 shall approve, — which shall be disposed of, to mem- 
 bers or others, according to the discretion of the 
 government. 
 
 ARTICLE VIII. 
 
 It shall be the duty of each member of the socie- 
 ty, so far as he shall consider it useful to the cause 
 of pure religion, to make known to the government, 
 the wishes of any individual with whom he may be 
 acquainted, who would be glad to avail himself of 
 the benefactions which the Society may have to 
 bestow, according to the principles herein expressed. 
 
 ARTICLE IX. 
 
 This Constitution, or any portion of it, may be 
 amended at any regular meeting of the Society, pro- 
 vided notice of the proposed alteration be given pre- 
 vious to the meeting, and provided two thirds of the 
 members present, vote in favour of said amendment.
