PRINCETON THEOLOGICAL SEMARY. GENERAL CATALOGUE. 1872. t^ /■ PRINCETON THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY. GENERAL CATALOGUE. 1872. PHILADELPHIA: JAS. B. RODGERS CO., PRINTERS, 52 & 54 NORTH SIXTH STREET. 1872. NOTE. This Catalogue contains the names of all persons who have been connected with the Seminary from its foundation to the present time, as Directors, Trustees, Pro- fessors, or Students. The names of the Students are arranged alphabetically under the several years of their matriculation. Although all accessible sources of information have been carefully examined, and considerable additions have been made upon every page to the last General Catalogue, it is still of necessity very incomplete. Any aid in filling blanks, or rectifying errors, will be thankfully accepted. The particulars here given respecting the Alumni are the following : 1. The name of the Alumnus. 3. The place of previous education. 2. His native state or country. 4. The time spent here. 5. Subsequent offices or occupations. The length of residence is indicated by a figure (1, 2, 3, etc.), denoting so many academical years. The abbreviations (mid.) or (sen.), preceding such figure, show that the student entered the middle or senior class. An additional sign {-\- or — ), means a month or a few months more or less. And "graduated" (grad.), shows that a certificate of a completed course was given. A dash, without a figure ( — ), marks a residence of only a few weeks or days. When these signs are preceded or followed by the name of a theological school, it denotes that the student was received from another institution of the same kind, or dismissed to join one. The words "licentiate" (lie), "ruling elder" (rul. eld.), "ordained minister" (ord. min.), etc., before the above signs, indicate the status previous to matriculation. The name of a church (or place), without designation, implies a pastorate; and, with the word "ordained" (ord.) preceding, shows that the ordination was to the said pastorate. A service closed by death is marked with a dash and a semicolon, followed by the date of the death. Thus, "Eaton, N. J., '26— ; *7 Feb. '50, ag. 60," tells that the pastorate begun in '26 was concluded by death. A dash and period at the end of an account shows that the person is still in the service denoted. Thus, " Woods, Me., '27 — ." tells that the minister is still pastor of that church. Churches are supposed to be Presbyterian unless otherwise named. It must be noted, however, that a denomination, a state, or a kind of service once given, is understood to continue till another takes its place. Such Alumni as have been Directors of the Seminary, or Moderators of the General Assembly, are distinguished by the dates of these apjiointments. The asterisk (*), as usual, marks the dead. Additions and corrections received too late for insertion in their proper places will be found at the end of the Catalogue. ABBREVIATIONS. Ass. Ref, Associate Reformed Presbyterian. Biipt., Baptist.
