Article 1. — This Church, heretofore known as the Con- gregational Church of Cold Spring, shall be known as the First Congregational Church of Napoli. Article 2. — This Church shall be an Independent Con- gregational Church, and in matters of doctrine, order and discipline, is amenable to no other organization, but will extend to other Evangelical Churches and receive from them that fellowship, advice and assistance, which the laws oi Christ require. Article 3. — The officers of this Church shall be a Pas- tor, two Deacons, a Clerk and Treasurer. Article 4. — Special meetings of the Church may be called by the Pastor or Deacons or by any five male members, by giving public notice on the Sabbath previ- ous to the convening of such me ting. Article 5. — The annual meetings of this Church shall be held on the last Friday in hecember, in each year, at which all the officers to be chosen, shall be elected by ballot, without nomination : and all elections shall be determined by a majority of all the members present, and voting. All meetings shall be opened with prayer. Article 6. — The Deacons shall hold their offices until their successors are elected and ordained. By vote of the Church, Deacons may be elected at any annual meeting of the Church. The Clerk and Treasurer shall hold their offices for one year, or until their successors are elected. Vacancies may be filled at any regular meeting of the Church. Article 7. — The observance of the Lord's Supper shall take place on the first Sabbaths of January, April, July and October in each year, at which all persons in good and regular standing in any Evangelical Church shall be invited to participate — excepting a slave-holder, or any one not openly acknowledging the sinfulness of slavery, or any persons who deal in, or use intoxicating liquors as a beverage — nor shall any such person or persons as excepted above be received or continued members of this Church. Nor shall any Minister known to hold slaves or to justify slavery, be admitted to our pulpit. Article 8. — All applicants for Church membership shall be examined as to their religious views and eviden- ces of Christian character, by a Committee, consisting of the Pastor and Deacons, or by the Church. Those ex- amined and approved by the Committee, shall be pro- pounded to the Church and congregation, at least one week before the communion, and they shall become members by a vot-- of the Church, and by giving public assent to the Articles of Faith and Covenant. Members in good standing may obtain letters of dismission by vote of the Church, at any public meeting, or on the S-ibbath. Such letters are to be signed by the Clerk or Pastor. Article 9.— The duty of the statnd Clerk shall b<> to record the doings of the business meetings of the Church, and to kejp the form of the Articles of Faith and Cove- nant, form of Admission, Rules, &c , recorded in a book. Also, a Cronolojneal list of its members, with the time of admission, dismission, death. &c., as marly as can be ascertained, and to present a report of the state of the Church at the annual meeting. The Treasurer shall re- ceive and disburse the funds of the Church under its direction, and make a full report at the annual meeting. Article 10.— The Pastor shall preside at the meetings of the Church, and shall have a casting vote. In his ab- sence the oldest Deacon shall preside; but by vote of the Church, another minister or any member of the Church may preside, hut such minister shall not vot*\ Article 11.— The Confession of Faith of the Presbyte- rian Church, and the Assembly's shorter Catechism shall be taken as an embodiment of the substance of doctrine as held by this Church: but all persons admitted to this Church shall publicly as-ent to the Articles of Faith appended to this Constitution. Article 12. — This Constitution or the Articles of Faith, may be amended by a vote of two thirds of the Church present, at any annual meeting, or at any meet- ing called for that purpose, notice thereof and notice of the amendment having been given at two public services on the preceding Sabbaths. ARTICLES OF FAITH, Article 1. — We believe in one God : the Creator and Kuler of the Universe, existing in a divine and incom- prehensible Trinity —the Father, trie Son Jesus Christ and th Holy Ghost, and possessing all divine perfections. Article 2. — We believe the scriptures of the d and New Testaments to be inspired of God: to contain a revelation of His will, and to be the authoratative nil of faith and practice. , Article 3. — We believe in the fall of our first parents, and th ' consequent entire apostacy, depravity and lost condition of the human race. Article 4. — We believe that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son to 'lie for it. That Christ appeared in the flesh— that He set forth a perfect example of obedieuce, that He purely taught the truths needful for our salvation — that He suffered in our stead, the jut for the unjust, that He died to atone for our sins and to purify us therefrom, and that He arose from the dead and ascended into Heaven, where He ever liveth to make intercession for us. Articlk 5.— We believe that God offers full forgive- ness and everlasting life to all who -vn ill heartily repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, while thos" who do not believe but persevere in sin shall finally perish. Article 6.— We believe in the divine appointment of the Christian Sabbath, and of the Ordinances of Baptism, and of the Lord's Supper, which Christians are under solemn obligation duly to observe. Article 7. — We believe in the resurrection of the dead, in a final and general judgment, upon the awards of wh'ch the wicked shall go into everlasting punish- ment, and the righteous into life eternal. 9 ENANT. Do you. now without reserve, give yourself away in a covenant, never to be revoked — to be His willing servant forever— to receive His word as the rule of your life ; and by His Grace assisting vou. will you persevere in this consecration to the end ? ' COVENANT WITH THE CHURCH. Do you solemnly covenant and agree to study the peace, purity and liberty of this Church ; to love and watch over its members as your brethren : to receive from them all needful care and admonition ? Will you labor together with us in the maintenance of its public worship and ordinances — suhmit to necessary discipline, and avoid all causes of scandal and offense so long as in the Providence of God you shall continue among us?
