THE highest Bidder to be tlie Buyer; and if any dispute arise between two or more Bidders, the liOt so in dispute shall be immediately put up again and re-sold. II. No person to advance less than Is. ; above Five Pounds, 5s. ; and so on in proportion. III. In the case of Lots upon which tliere is a reserve, the Auctioneer shall have the right to bid on behalf of the Seller. IV. The Ptirchasers to give in their Names and Places of Abode, and to pay down Hs. in the poiind, or more, in part of payment, or the whole of the Purchase -Money, if required; in default of which, the Lot or Lots so purchased to be immediately put up again and re-sold, V. The Lots to be taken away and paid for, whether genuine and authentic or not, with all faults and errors of description, at the Buyer's expense and risk, within Two days from the Sale ; Messrs. Ciiristik, Manson and Woods not being responsible for the correct description, genuineness, or authenticity of, or any fault or defect in, any Lot ; and making no warranty whatever. VI. To prevent inaccuracy in delivery, and inconvenience in the settlement of the Purchases, no T^ot can on any account be removied during the time of Sale ; and the remainder of the Purchase-Money must absolutely be paid on the delivery. VII. Upon failure of complying with the above Conditions, the Money deposited in part of payment shall be forfeited ; all Lots un- cleared within the time aforesaid shall be re-sold by public or private Sale, and the deficiency (if any) attending such re-sale shall be made good by the Defaulter at this Sale. A cavalier is seated on a table, giviug instruction to a lady in a satin dress ; an elderly attendant is listening at a half-open door behind 2 ft. by 1 ft. 8 in. This picture is in the Master' s finest Metzu time, WILLIAM VAN DE VELDE. 2 A SEA VIEW DURING A FRESH BREEZE, with numerous ships of war and other vessels, among which a gilded yacht and fishing smack are conspicuous 1 ft. 5 in. by 2 ft. On some rising gi-ound on the right stands a town overlooking a river, and in the foreground a herdsman with some cows is on the banks ; to the left the river winds away in the distance, and on it are several small vessels sailing. A „,.,„,f>^ cavalier in a red cloak, mounted on a grey horse, is passing a pool of water ; in the middle are some other horsemen, and a r^ 1^0 shepherd guarding his flock ; beyond extends a richly-wooded country ; a noble ash-tree forms the prominent object on the left 2 ft. 2 in. by 2 ft. 8 in. ADRIAN OSTADE, 14 THE INTERIOR OP A VILLAGE ALE-HOUSE, with a numerous assemblage of peasantry ; among whom, in the middle, are a man and woman dancing to the music of a violin, played by a man mounted on a bench ; others are drinking and making merry in various ways. This picture is mentioned by M. Nieuwenhuys in his book as one of the finest specimens of this Master 1 ft. 6 in. by 1 ft. 3^ in. See Sniith's ' Catalogue Baisonne,' vol. i., page 145, No. 138. The Virgin, clothed in a scarlet ^^ dress and dark mantle, is seated, holding the infant Saviour naked in her lap, her right hand round his loins. The sun, piercing throngli some heavy masses of clouds, is falling on the white sail of a fishing smack ; farther off are some other fishing smacks ; and a man-of-war is lying at anchor and firing a salute.
