All of the following dates are very rare: 1831; 1836; 1840 to 1848; 1849, small date; and 1852. Cents 1793 to 1823; 1856 Eagle. The 1793 Clover Leaf variety is the rarest of all U. S. cents; only 3 known. No specimen has been offered in many years. Two of the best are in a well-known Chicago collection. It would be very gratifying to know where other specimens are located. The 1793 Chain Ameri, Liberty Cap, Chain America, Wreath lettered edge and plain edge; 1794; Reverse with 87 minute stars; 1799, 1804, and many other of the dates referred to are very rare. The 1799, 1804 and 1856 Eagle Cents are very popular among collectors. Two Cents 1863 and 1873. Trimes 1855; 1863; 1864; 1865; 1867 to 1873. 3c. Nickel 1877; 1878; 1884 to 1887. |;lalf Dimes 1794 to 1797; 1800 to 1803; 1805; 1846; 1863; 1864; 1865; 1866; 1867— all S. The 1802 is the rarest of the series, one of the rarest of the Silver Coins. There is also a very rare specimen of the 1859 Half Dime without the legend U. S., of which it is cldimed only 4 or 5 were struck before they were suppressed. The 1838, no starts, O, is extra rare. Dimes 1796; 1797; 1798; 1800 to 1805; 1822; 1844; 1894S; 1804 and 1894S are rarest Dimes. L’Oc. Silver 1877; 1878. Quarters 1796; 1804 to 1807; 1820 to 1824; 1827; 1853, no arrows. The rarest Quarters ^ are 1827 and 1823 in the order named, with many of the other dates given. Very difficult to find in fine condition — 1806 over 1805 is excessively rare. Mr. Low’s last sale of a superb specimen brought $165.00. Half Dollars ... 1794 to 1797; 1801 to 1803; 1807; 1815, 1836 Reeded Edge; 1838 O under bust; 1852; 1853; no arrows or rays. The rarest Half Dollar is the 1838 0 under bust, with 1796 and 1797 next, and many of the dates named are very difficult to obtain in fine condition. The 1853 Half Dollar, 0 — no arrows and rays, is regarded by many competent collectors as a myth. No speciinan can be located. Dollars 1794; 1804; 1836; 1838; 1839; 1851; 1852; 1858; 1873 S; 1895 P. Of these the 1804 is the rarest Dollar, with 1794 second rarest, and the Pattern Dollars of the thirties and fifties all very rare. , Trade Dollar ...1884 excessively rare; said to be only 5 known. The majority of the dates named are very rare, and all of them, together with the Octagon and Round California Dollars (which were of ))rivate origin) command good premiums. The 1798, 4 stars facing is very rare. $20.00 Gold 1854 and 1856 0, and 1882 to 1887, all P, and 1907, St. Gauden’s, high relief, wire edge adn same with smoother edge. The 1849 $20.00 gold piece is the rarest of the series. It is unique, the only one coined in that year, and is owned by the United States Mint at Philadelphia. This piece of money probably enjoys the distinction of having had the highest price bid for it of any coin in the world — $35,000.00 was bid for it a few years ago by one of our Pittsburgh col- lectors.
