 1 pound olive oil, 1 dram oil ongairum, U 
 drams oil rosemary. Mix well, bottle and 
 label. Will curl the straightest hair, if not 
 cut too short. 
 
 LIGHTNING INK ERASER. 
 1 pound chloride of lime in 1 gallon of

 CHEMICAL COMPOUND. 
 
 3 ounces aqua ammonia, 1 quart soft 
 water, 1 teaspoonful saltpetre, 1 ounce 
 shaving soap in shavings. Mix and dissolve 
 soap well. Very fine. 
 
 SECRETS OF THE LIQUOR TRADE. 
 
 Port Wine. — 40 gallons prepared cider, 6 
 gallons good port wine, 10 quarts wild 
 grapes, I pound bruised rhatany root, 3 
 ounces tine, kino., 3 pounds loaf sugar, 2 
 gallons spirits. Let this stand ten da^s. 
 Color if too light with tine, rhatany, then

 rack off and fill. This should be repeated 
 until the color is perfect and the liquid clear. 
 
 Sherry Wine. — 40 gallons prepared cider. 
 2 gallons spirits, 3 pounds raisins, 6 gallons 
 good sherry, and \ ounce oil bitter almonds. 
 Let stand ten days, drain off and fill like 
 port. 
 
 Champagne Cider. — 1 hogshead good pale 
 cider. 2 gallons spirits. 20 pounds sugar. 
 Mix, let stand two weeks, then fill with i 
 gallon skimmed milk. This will be very 
 pale, and when bottled opens so brisk good 
 judges have mistaken it for the genuine 
 article. 
 
 Artificial Brandy. — 1 gallon pure spirits. 
 1 quart best brandy, any kind you wish to 
 imitate, 2 ounces loaf sugar, I ounce sweet 
 spirits of nitre, a few drops tine, catechu, or 
 oak bark, to roughen the taste if desired and 
 color to suit. 
 
 Bourbon Whiskey. 45 Cents a Gallon. — 
 4 gallons alcohol, 6 gallons water, i ounce 
 juniper berries, 3 ounces cayenne pepper, 6 
 ounces glycerine. Mix. let stand a few

 days, then strain and color to any desired 
 shade with burnt sugar. Last, add a drop 
 oil of carraway and 6 ounces essence bour- 
 bon to flavor. Put into a barrel in the bot- 
 tom of which put a 5-cent plug of tobacco. 
 As it gets strong add more water. Alcohol 
 can be bought of wholesalers at $1.25 per 
 gallon, 95 per cent, or white spirits. 
 
 Rye Whiskey. — 1 gallon alcohol, 3 gallons 
 water, 1 gallon rye whiskey ($1.50). 1 ounce 
 glycerine. Color with burnt sugar to suit. 
 Mix. Let stand two weeks. 
 
 Scotch or Irish Whiskey. — To 40 
 gallons proof spirits, 60 drops creo- 
 sote dissolved in alcohol, 2 ounces acetic 
 acid, 1 pound loaf sugar. Stand forty-eight 
 hours. Add 5 gallons Irish or Scotch 
 whiskey. 
 
 HOW TO MAKE ANY ONE LOVE YOU. 
 
 Give the person you wish to make love 
 you 18 drops tine, satal. rub. in tea, coffee, 
 wine, or in fact anything. Said to be good.

 CURE FOR DRUNKENNESS AND TO-

 5 grains sulphite of iron, 10 grains mag-

 nesia, 1 1 drams peppermint water. 1 dram 
 spirit of nutmeg. Twice a day. This pre- 
 paration acts as a tonic and stimulant and 
 partly supplies the place of the liquor or to- 
 bacco. The person using this must abstain 
 from their use while taking this. 
 
 ARTIFICIAL GOLD. 
 
 16 parts platinum, 7 parts copper. 1 part 
 zinc. Put into a crucible, melt and add 1 
 part pure gold. Another: 100 parts pure 
 copper. 17 parts tin, 6 parts magnesia, h 
 part sal ammoniac, I part quicklime. 9 parts 
 tartar of commerce. The copper is melted 
 first, zinc added last, about one-half hour 
 after the other is added. 
 
 ARTIFICIAL SILVER. 
 
 4 ounce copper, 2 ounces brass, 3 ounces 
 silver, 2 ounces bismuth. Melt with pow- 
 dered charcoal in a crucible.

 trated aqua ammonia : add 1 ounce gum 
 arable and 14 ounces soft water. Keep in 
 the dark. 
 
 WORM LOZENGES. 
 
 10 ounces powdered sugar, 5 ounces 
 starch. Mix with mucilage, and to every 
 ounce add 12 grains calomel. Divide in 
 twenty-grain lozenges. Dose, two to six. 
 
 SHAVING SOAP. 
 
 3 pounds white bar soap, 1 pound castile 
 soap, 1 quart rain water, | pint beef's gall. 1 
 gill spirits turpentine. Cut the soap into 
 thin slices and boil five minutes after the 
 soap is dissolved. Stir while boiling. Scent

 with oil of rose or almond. If you wish to 
 color use h ounce vernnilion. 
 
 LIQUID GLUE. 
 
 1 ounce borax in 1 pint boiling water.

 1 pound ivory black, 2 ounces molasses, 4 
 ounces olive oil, 4 ounces oil vitriol, 8 
 ounces alcohol, 1 pound rye flour. Mix to- 
 gether in a kettle. 
 
 CASTORIA. 
 2 drams senna, i ounce manna, }, ounce 
 Rochelle salts, | dram bruised fennel. Dis- 
 solve in 4 ounces boiling water, cool, strain 
 and add 4 ounces sugar, sufficient winter-

 in a solution of caustic potash. Rennove 
 carefully and dry on a sheet of paper. Now 
 take a piece of copper which has been pre- 
 viously well coated with white wax. Lay 
 the matter to be transferred on the plate and 
 rub gently on the back. Raise it up care- 
 fully and the printed nnatter will be trans- 
 ferred to the wax. Now take needles of 
 different sizes and scrawl off over the wax. 
 Having got the design all traced out, pour 
 over some weak acid and let stand long 
 enough to eat into the metal. Acid to be 
 used : 4 parts verdigris, 4 parts salt. 4 parts 
 sal ammoniac, 1 part alum, 16 parts water. 
 12 parts vinegar. Dissolve wax by heat 
 and wash off. You can now print as many 
 from the engraving as you wish. Use good 
 ink and rub in well. Do not try a valuable 
 engraving at first. 
 
 BROWN'S BRONCHIAL TROCHES. 
 
 1 pound pulv. extract of licorice, U 
 pounds pulv. sugar, 4 ounces pulv. cubebs. 
 4 ounces pulv. gum arabic, 1 ounce pulv. 
 ex. conium. Mix.

 Mix the juice of loreage or smilage with 
 any kind of bait. 
 
 FLORIDA WATER. 
 
 Dissolve in i gallon 90 per cent alcohol 1 
 ounce each oil of lavender, oil of bergamont. 
 and oil of lemon. 1 dram each oil of cloves 
 and oil of cinnamon. Add 1 gallon of v/ater 
 and filter. 
 
 TOOTH POWDER. 
 
 h ounce chalk, h ounce pulv. arris root. 
 Mix and flavor to suit. 
 
 BED BUG POISON. 
 
 2 ounce each corrosive sublimate and sal 
 am.moniac. 1 pint whiskey. 
 
 THREE-MINUTE SALVE FOR REMOV- 
 ING CORNS AND WARTS. 
 
 1 pound caustic potash, 4 drams bella- 
 donna. 2 ounces peroxide manganese. Mix 
 into a salve. 
 
 CURE FOR CORNS. 
 
 Apply acetic acid night and morning. 
 Cure certain.

 BLISTERING LINIMENT. 
 
 I part Spanish flies, 3 of lard. 1 ounce 
 
 rosin. Mix lard and rosin together and add

 CURE FOR SPLINTS AND SPAVINS. 
 6 ounces oil anguinunn, 2 ounces gum 
 camphor. 2 ounces mercurial ointment, 1 
 ounce iodine ointment. Melt by putting 
 into a wide-mouthed bottle and setting in 
 hot water. Apply two times daily for four 
 or five days and a cure is guaranteed. 
 
 GRAFTING WAX. 
 
 1 pound resin, 1 pound beeswax, with 
 tallow or lard sufficient to soften. Melt. 
 
 DAVIS' PAIN KILLER. 
 20 pounds powdered guaiac. 2 pounds 
 camphor. 6 pounds cayenne pepper, 1 pound 
 caustic liquor of ammonia, | pound powd. 
 opium. Digest the ingredients in 32 gallons 
 alcohol for two weeks and filter.

 BLOOM OF YOUTH. 
 Boil 1 ounce of Brazil wood in 3 pints of 
 water for fifteen minutes. Strain. Add 4 
 ounces isinglass, { ounce ounce cochineal. 
 1 ounce alunn, h ounce borax. Dissolve by 
 heat and strain. 
 
 LIQUID FOR FORGING THE BEARD. 
 
 2 ounces cologne, I drann liquid harts- 
 horn, 2 drams tine, cantharides, 12 drops oil 
 rosemary, 12 drops lavender. Apply daily. 
 
 CHEAP WHISKEY. 
 
 1 gallon alcohol, 3 gallons water, 1 gallon 
 whiskey. Burnt sugar to color. 
 
 COLOGNE. 
 1 gallon 95 per cent alcohol, 2 ounces oil 
 bergamont, h ounce orange, I ounce oil 
 cedar, i dram neroli, | dram oil rosemary. 
 Mix well. A nice article. 
 
 LADIES' OWN. 
 
 1 gallon spirits of wine, 20 drops attar of 
 roses, I ounce essence of thyme, { ounce

 of bees' honey and 4 drops essence of pep- 
 permint. A better article can be made by 
 using h pound more honey and I pound less 
 water. 
 
 HARNESS OIL. 
 
 30 gallons neatsfoot oil. 30 gallons linseed 
 oil, 5 pounds wax, 15 pounds lampblack. A 
 fortune in this article for some one. 
 
 ANGLER'S SECRET. 
 
 Add a drop or two oil of anise to the bait. 
 Place a small piece of lovage or smilage in 
 the bait box.
