SHELF C. 1 Circular snuff-box of wood, lined with tortoiseshell ; on lid view of the Tiber, castle and bridge of St. Angelo, and church of St. Peter ; on the bottom the arch of Constantino, and the Coliseum. 2 Circular snuff-box of painted wood, commemorating tlie partition of Poland in 1772, by the Empress Catherine, the Emperor Joseph, and Frederick XL of Prussia ; a person in a bine coat and star (perhaps George III.) appears to be protesting. 3 Bonbonniere of Dresden china, in the shape of a shoe, set in silver. 4 Circular enamel and gold snuff-box, with chased borders, ' lined with tortoiseshell ; top painted by Blaremherg : subject, the Burghers of Calais before King Edward III. 5 Gold vinaigrette with enamel top ; subject, Narcissus : on the bottom Mars and Venus : inside the lid a looking- glass. 6 Square white moss agate snuff-box set in gold. 7 Long oblong enamel box, on lid a representation of a German ale house : four figures playing cards and smoking, two more persons at the same table conversing, at another table two persons playing draughts and talking to a third, who is standing up ; on front of box are two figures on horse- back ; and inside the lid portraits of Frederick the Great and his Consort. Rocroi ?), and inside the lid a portrait of Louis (II.) de Conde ? 4 Oval snuff-box of china, mounted and lined with gold ; on lid, Venus and Cupid ; inside the lid, a similar subject. 5 Dresden china double-barrel-shaped bonbonniere, set in gold, and ornamented with raised flowers. 6 Square Dresden china snuff-box, set in gold, ornamented at ends and inside with birds of gay plumage. 7 Dresden china bonbonniere, set in gold, ornamented outside with Watteau subjects; inside the lid, poitrait of lady in white cap and light brown dress unpicking mantle of pink silk. 8 Square raised Dresden china snuff-box, with plan of Prussian and Saxon armies at the battle of Pirna, 175G ; on the sides and underneath are military subjects ; inside the lid a most beautiful battle-piece. 9 Dresden china double-barrel-shaped bonbonniere, lined with gold, ornamented with raised flowers ; on eacli lid a dog, and inside each a Watteau subject : the outside of the lid appears to have been damaged, and replaced by superior hands. 10 Oval Dresden china snuff-box, set in chased gold, ornamented inside and out with scenes from a camp, pro- bably that of Frederick the Great. 11 Square Dresden china snuff-box, lined with gold, with Watteau subjects. 12 Square white Dresden china snuff-box, w^ith Watteau subjects, the prevailing tint being a delicate green : inside the lid a Watteau subject in bright colours. 13 Oblong Dresden china bonbonniere, set in gold, with circular lid, ornamented with flowers ; inside lid a stag hunt.
