 partition of Poland in 1772, by the Empress Catherine, the 
 Emperor Joseph, and Frederick XL of Prussia ; a person in a 
 bine coat and star (perhaps George III.) appears to be 
 protesting. 
 
 3 Bonbonniere of Dresden china, in the shape of a shoe, 
 set in silver. 
 
 4 Circular enamel and gold snuff-box, with chased borders, 
 ' lined with tortoiseshell ; top painted by Blaremherg : subject, 
 
 the Burghers of Calais before King Edward III. 
 
 5 Gold vinaigrette with enamel top ; subject, Narcissus : 
 on the bottom Mars and Venus : inside the lid a looking-

 German ale house : four figures playing cards and smoking, 
 two more persons at the same table conversing, at another

 attended by Cupid and two doves, painted by Halle (1711-

 2 Circular bonbonniere mounted in chased gold, and lined 
 with gold ; on lid paintinfj^ (qy. if not after Claude Lorraine) 
 of a bay on the sea-shore, with figures in tlie forei^round ; on 
 the sea a ship and three boats, on one side a pier terminating 
 in a fort ; on the sides of the box are similar subjects. 
 
 3 Circular snuff-box of glass over red silk, lined with 
 tortoiseshell and set with gold ; on lid, miniature of a lady, 
 whose corsage is trimmed with flowers, the hair wreathed 
 with branches of grapes, large pendent pear-sha[)ed red 
 earrings. 
 
 4 Circular horn snuff-l)0x set with chased irold, and lined 
 with gold ; on lirl, miniature of lady in blue and white dress, 
 fair hair, pearl ornaments. 
 
 5 Oblong gold snuff-box ; on lid, miniature of Louise 
 Therese de Bourbon-Conti Duchf^sse d'Orleans. mother of 
 
 ite ; on the sides and bottom are five views of the Park 
 and Chateau of St. Cloud. 
 
 6 Oval gold snuff-box, with dark blue enamel set in gold 
 and green enamel ; on lid, a circular medallion in grisaille 
 of Cupid and a globe ; on the bottom a medallion of the sea- 
 shore, with a castle and a boat. 
 
 7 Mother-of-pearl box mounted in chased gold witli tour 
 feet and a ruby snap ; inside the lid, a miniature by Cosway 
 of Mary, daughter of Charles Milbourne, Esq., and Lady 
 Martha Harley, dauirhter of Edward, third e.ad of Oxford, 
 married Thomas Swinnerton, Esq., of liutterton Hall, and 
 died May 1795.

 on yellow silk, under glass. 
 
 9 Oval tortoiseshell snuff-box, inlaid with enamel, gold 
 and silver ; on lid, portrait (ecamel) of lady in pink dress 
 with variegated scarf, fair hair, and pearl ornaments. 
 
 10 Octagonal gold snuff-box with dark blue enamel ; in 
 centre of lid, portrait of a person with the ribbon of the 
 garter (qy. Duke of Berwick ?), on either side three medallions 
 of grisaille. 
 
 An inscription inside the hox scarcely appears to deserve credit. 
 
 11 Oval gold snuff-box with blue enamel set with pearls ; 
 on lid, painting of a lady delicately dressedj with a male and 
 female attendant (qy. by Angelica Kauffmann f). 
 
 12 Oval papier mdche snuff-box set in light brown enamel, 
 and gold, mounted in engraved gold and lined with tortoise- 
 shell ; on lid, portrait of a lady in muslin dress, grey scarf, 
 and wreath of flowers over bosom, pearl earrings. 
 
 13 Circular snuff-box of gold and grey enamel, marked 
 with jewels, and lined with tortoiseshell ; on lid, portrait of 
 lady in pink dress with muslin, fair hair, slightly confined 
 by broad blue ribbon. 
 
 14 Horn snuff-box pique, inlaid with mother-of-pearl, and 
 figures, &c., in gold.

 device, two C's surrounded by a crown ; on the lid a cavalry 
 engagement (qy. Rocroi ?), and inside the lid a portrait of 
 Louis (II.) de Conde ? 
 
 4 Oval snuff-box of china, mounted and lined with gold ; 
 on lid, Venus and Cupid ; inside the lid, a similar subject. 
 
 5 Dresden china double-barrel-shaped bonbonniere, set in 
 gold, and ornamented with raised flowers. 
 
 6 Square Dresden china snuff-box, set in gold, ornamented 
 at ends and inside with birds of gay plumage. 
 
 7 Dresden china bonbonniere, set in gold, ornamented 
 outside with Watteau subjects; inside the lid, poitrait of 
 lady in white cap and light brown dress unpicking mantle of 
 pink silk. 
 
 8 Square raised Dresden china snuff-box, with plan of 
 Prussian and Saxon armies at the battle of Pirna, 175G ; on 
 the sides and underneath are military subjects ; inside the 
 lid a most beautiful battle-piece. 
 
 9 Dresden china double-barrel-shaped bonbonniere, lined 
 with gold, ornamented with raised flowers ; on eacli lid a 
 dog, and inside each a Watteau subject : the outside of the 
 lid appears to have been damaged, and replaced by superior 
 hands. 
 
 10 Oval Dresden china snuff-box, set in chased gold, 
 ornamented inside and out with scenes from a camp, pro- 
 bably that of Frederick the Great. 
 
 11 Square Dresden china snuff-box, lined with gold, with 
 Watteau subjects. 
 
 12 Square white Dresden china snuff-box, w^ith Watteau 
 subjects, the prevailing tint being a delicate green : inside 
 the lid a Watteau subject in bright colours. 
 
 13 Oblong Dresden china bonbonniere, set in gold, with 
 circular lid, ornamented with flowers ; inside lid a stag hunt.

 (containing oriental garnets). 
 
 4 Oblong snuff-box of tortoiseshell pique, and inlaid with 
 mother-of-pearl and gold : inside the lid a landscape. 
 
 5 Circular enamel snuff-box, set in chased gold, and lined 
 with gold; on lid, which is surrounded with pearls, Neptune 
 and Amphitrite ; on the bottom Cupid and a pair of lovers. 
 
 6 Circular transparent horn snuff-box, set in gold, lid 
 lined with glace over yellow silk ; on the lid, in grisaille, 
 two lovers, attended by Amorini, approaching a stone, on 
 which is inscribed Serment d'Amour." 
 
 7 Circular snuff-box of red enamel, set in gold, and lined 
 with tortoiseshell ; on lid, miniature, *' Portrait du Prince de 
 Saxe Coburgh, qui fut mis par le Cabinet de Vienne a la 
 tete de son armee des Pays-Bas centre les Franpais 1793, et 
 qui avait deja illustre son nom dans la guerre de I'Empereur 
 Joseph II. centre les Turcs. 
 
 8 Oval gold enamel snuff-box, given by the City of 
 London to commemorate the naval victory over the Spanish 
 fleet, February 14, 1797. See inscription inside the lid. 
 
 9 Oval tortoiseshell snuff-box set and inlaid with gold. 
 Le portrait du Kegent peint par Klingstel, son peintre favori, 
 
 qu'il appelait le Kaphael des tabatieres. A droite du Kegent 
 est Madame de Phalarist dans les bras de laquelle il est 
 mort d'apoplexie ; apres vient Madame de Parabere et

 4 Circular tortoiseshell snuff-box set in gold ; on lid, half-
