The highest Bidder to be the Buyer, and if any dispute arise between two or more Bidders, the Lot so in dispute shall be immediately put up again and re-sold. II. No Person to advance less than Is. — -Above Five Pounds, 2s. 6d. and so on in proportion. in. Rosa 3 St, Achilles, a very richly coloured and highly finished picture, in the early manner of Garofalo 4 The Infant Jesus asleep, St. John near him holding the Cross. Perugino Luca Cambiasi This picture is covered with a patina and much dirt, but is in pure and fine condition 5 A Holy Family, in the the style of his friend and contempo- rary RafFaelle The Virgin is supporting the Child by a Scarf passed round his body; the latter is seated on a sculptured marble, in the centre of which is a Scutcheon, as if designed to receive a Coat of Arms ; behind the group is an Edifice with Figures ascending a Flight of Steps ; a Landscape and Buildings in the back-ground 6 The Creation, a small and highly finished cabinet specimen 7 A Holy Family and three Angels kneeling in Prayer over the Infant ; Shepherds and Figures, engaged in the Chase, are seen in a distant landscape. The Village of Beth- lehem, crowns a precipice on the right above the Cattle shed ; an Angel is flying down in the centre of the picture announcing the Nativity This grand specimen is much in the manner of the Fra. Bartolomeo. 8 The Marriage of St. Catharine, an extraordinary picture of the master, very sweetly designed and coloured in a silvery tone Albano 9 J/y 'L . /o ^ ANDREA DEL SARTO 10 Apollo and Daphne, in a beautiful landscape, the subject is represented on the brink of the river Peneus, beyond which the River God, reclining, is ready to receive his Daughter ; Cupid with a Torch is urging Apollo foii- ward ; clear and beautifully finished St. John writing the Revelations, in the Island of Patmos ; The Evangelist is standing in a bold landscape, with a . Pen in one hand, and Book in the other, which rests upon one thigh ; the foot elevated for the purpose on a stone The air' of the head is highly dignified yet sweet, the colouring rich and vivid, the finishing exquisite a noble chef-dceuvre A HOLY FAMILY, — the Virgin, in a graceful attitude, has lifted up a light linen drapery, and is exposing to view the Infant Christ sleeping on a bed ; St. John, with arms folded and embracing the cross, is bending over the Child; St. Joseph appears behind. This fine picture displays the graceful outline, and the delicate and sweet finishing of Raffaelle; the beauty of the countenances, and of the body and limbs of the Infant, are powerfully relieved by rich and glowing draperies This charming chef-doeuvre is from the Monte Casino, near Ponte Corvo THE ENAMOURED PHYSICIAN.
