B 'X' . . . 1. HIS raost distinguished COLLECTION was formed in the early Part of the last Century, by the late Bouchier Cleeve, Esq.; the greater Part of which were collected Abroad, and purchased by him at very great Prices, and has remained without any Addition from that Period to the present. The excellent and perfect State of these Pictures, shews how highly and properly the classical Taste and Judgment of the Collector has been appreciated, and that such valua- A ble Treasures have been judiciously protected from accidental Injury, or unskilful Treat- ment, during so long a Period of Time. They are now most candidly presented before the Nobility, Gentry and Public, in their genuine State, precisely in their Places in the Mansion they have so long adorned. The Catalogue is made from the Original*, written on Vellum very many Years ago, and the Names of^ the Masters copied correctly from it; — Purchasers will however use their own Judgment in that respect, and will be pleased to take Notice, that in case of any Inaccuracy either of the Names, Descriptions, or Sizes, no Warranty is viven, and the Lots must be taken without any Allowance whatever on that Account. On each Page is annexed the Size of the Pictures taken within the Frames, and also the Numbers of the Cheques on the Backs, referring to the Counterparts in Possession of the Family. * A Copy of which is published in the Description of in “ England Displayed,” 2 Vols.
