From the T i^rary Frank Simpson CHRISTIE MAN80N & WOODS LTDj ft . ) P ; A" CATALOGUE OF THE PICTURES IN MONTAGU HOUSE BELONGING TO THE DUKE OF BUCCLEUCH LONDON, MDCCCXCVIII « r ~J"~"^HE Pictures described in this Catalogue were, with few exceptions, collected by the ist Duke of Montagu and the Marquis of Monthermer. These Collections came into the possession of Elizabeth, Duchess of Buccleuch, by bequest of her mother, The Lady Mary Montagu, Duchess of Montagu. In compiling this volume I have been greatly assisted by my son — my successor in Pall Mall East — to him is due the discovery of Rembrandt's signature on the portrait of the Artist's first wife (vide No. 8).
