The Association will, however, afford to purchasers every facility for employing at current and reasonable rates carriers and packers; doing so, however, without any assumption of responsibility on its part for the acts and charges of the parties engaged for such service. 6. Storage of any purchase shall be at the sole risk of the purchaser. Title passes upon the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer, and thereafter, while the Association will exercise due caution in caring for and delivering such purchase, it will not hold itself responsible if such purchase be lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed. Note.—In Naples especially it has been the habit for hundreds of years to prepare elaborate groups of figures in the churches for Christmas celebra- tion. These varied in artistic skill and richness of decoration, and a prize was offered for excellence in modeling. The result was that the best artists and sculptors vied with each other in producing good work. In the central fore- ground stands a victorious Roman general, his plumed cap wreathed with laurel. At : the back are officers, and kneeling before him bearded men and priests present a human head, from which the general turns away his head in horror. The background is filled with a landscape and scenes having to do with the return of the victorious army. On the frieze is a date, 1526, and initials A H and A B. Has six compartments; at the side a recess for a water font. The locks and hinges are of steel, and rosettes of metal.
