SEVENTH STREE PHILADELPHIA ate iS ames : : * us - ' Re a ee Y eben ak, PUBLIC ~ Having decided to Boi my own Executor, I hereby offer 160 out of 600 pictures, which have been collected in America _ and Europe. Many are from old Philadelphia Estates. My father, Col. Thomas Fitzgerald, was a noted Art Collector, and enjoyed personal acquaintance with many of the great artists of the world, Isabey, Fortuny, Meissioner, Rousseau, Vibert, Delacroix, Troyon, Bayard, Corot,, Diaz, Jules Breton, Daubigny, Millet, Stuart, Peale, Sully (who painted our family | 4 times), Neagle, Benj. West, Wyant, Innes, Abbey, etc., etc. | My brother, Riter Fitzgerald, was also a well-known Art Collector, and the critic of the “Philadelphia Item’ and other prominent newspapers for 30 years. “The Lord’s Supper” and “ Christ Crucified’”’ my father and my brother considered two of the greatest pictures ever painted, not only as regards composition, which is masterly, but from the point of drawing, color scheme, and dramatic effect. “They considered “The Lord’s Supper”’ superior to the accepted picture by Da Vinci, the grouping of which is unnatural, for a supper party would hardly be seated only on one side of the table. It reminded them of a photographer's arrangement, and was unworthy the genius of a great artist. My picture has all the attributes; it is an inspiration. I consider One Hundred Thousand Dollars a fai estimate of the value of “‘ The Lord’s Supper” and Fifty Thousand Dollars for “ Christ Crucified,” HARRINGTON FITZGERALD. The landscape is superb, while the figures, dog, rabbit and birds are capitally drawn and full of action. The color is brilliant without being obtrusive. This is one of Ten Kate’s greatest ex- amples, and is worthy a place in any first-class private or public gallery. The artist's pictures are difficult to get, and sell from $1,000 to $10,000 each. - The younger brother, Herman Ten Kate, achieved distinction as a genre painter. From the W. L. Elkins’ sale. J.
