AN APPEAL,
fo the patrons and Friends of Union Seminary,
We have prepared this schedule with no ostentatious
or intrusive intent, but as deeming this the most conve¬
nient and expeditious means of informing the public of
the condition and prospects of this institution, and of in¬
viting its co-operation in our behalf. The members of
the Synod of West Tennessee, need not to be informed
of the relations existing between the two institutions.
It has long been a desideratum, sensibly felt, by the
friends of education and religion, that the young men
destined for the ministry, should be concentrated at va¬
rious points, whilst preparing for more advanced studies;
and by mutual example and precept, promote the graces
of the doctrines they profess. The means are now iu
your hands for effecting this desired object, and render¬
ing the institution of your adoption worthy the patron¬
age of the christian community. We would most care¬
fully avoid incurring the imputation of Sectarianism;
and cordially invito all, of whatever denomination, to
aid in the cause of education. We affirm, without the
appearance of exaggeration, that at no similar institution,
are the expenses so moderate, no location more healthy,
none present less inducements to squander time and mo¬
ney: in fine, none combine so many circumstances to en¬
courage the eminent advancement of each student.
Eight young men, of promising talent, are in a course
of preparatory and collegiate study, in view of the min¬
istry; and a great majority of the whole number are
classical, as a reference to the statistics will shew. We
have no hesitation in publishing that faithful instruction
..cording to the course prescribed, will be given. Ri¬
gid and salutary discipline is enforced. Students will
be prepared to enter any c;ass in college, in a thorough
manner, and rapidly as possible* No student will be
admitted for a Jess time than half a session. If he enters
during the session he will join the classes then formed;
therefore, it is earnestly recommended that all enter
at the commencement.
There are two sessions of the Academical year,of
20 weeks each.
Tuition will invariably be required in advance.
