Whereas, certain patriotic Ladies of Charleston have benevolently inaugurated an Institution called "A Home for the Mothers, Widows and Daughters of Confederate Soldiers, Charleston, South Caro¬ lina;" and whereas, we, the undersigned, highly and heartily approve of the objects of that Institution, as blessed of God, and entitled to the unstinted sup¬ port of man. Now, therefore we, the undersigned, have formed ourselves into an Auxiliary Association, to promote the objects and ensure the success and permanence of the Institution; and in testimonial thereof have adopted the following CONSTITUTION. ARTICLE I. This Association shall be styled "An Association Auxiliary to a Home for the Mothers, Widows and Orphans of Confederate Soldiers." ARTICLE II. The officers shall be, a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and an Executive Committee of thirteen members. ARTICLE III. The President, Vice-President, Secretary and Trea¬ surer, after those first elected, shall be elected annually on the first Monday in January, by ballot. The Ex¬ ecutive Committee shall be appointed by the Presi¬ dent. 6 ARTICLE IV. The President, Vice-President, Secretary and Trea¬ surer, shall be elected immediately after the adoption of the Constitution. The Executive Committee shall be appointed by the President as soon after his elec¬ tion as can be conveniently done by him. All those officers so appointed and elected shall serve until the first Monday in January, 1871, or until their successors shall be elected or appointed. ARTICLE V. The President shall preside at all meetings, preserve order, and call extra meetings when they may be re¬ quired. The Vice-President, in the absence Of the President, shall discharge all the duties of that officer. The Secretary shall keep correct minutes of the pro¬ ceedings of each meeting; give public notice, or other¬ wise, of all meetings; and, shall, when required by the Chairman of the Executive Committee, summon the members of that Committee to all meetings. The Treasurer shall collect, disburse and keep the funds of the Association; and for the purpose of col¬ lecting the annual contributions of the members, may pay a collector not more than five per centum for making such collections. He shall make quarterly reports to the Association of all moneys received or disbursed by him, and all moneys in his hands shall be subject to the order of the Chairman of the Execu¬ tive Committee. 7 The-Executive Committee shall be regarded as the financial Agent of the Assocaition, and be specially charged with the duty of securing the accomplish¬ ment of the objects of this Association. For this mrpose the Committee shall be possessed of all and •very power which this Association can exercise. ARTICLE VI. The annual contribution of each member shall be ten lollars, payable at the quarterly meeting in January. ARTICLE VII. Any person" contributing two hundred dollars shall be a Life "Member of the Association, and shall re¬ ceive a certificate, the form of which shall be prepared by the Executive Committee, and shall be signed by the "Board of Control of the Widow's Home." All moneys so received shall be permanently invested by the Executive Committee, and the increase, or the in¬ terest thereof, applied as may be directed by the Ex¬ ecutive Committee. * ARTICLE VIII. The regular meetings of this Association shall be on the first Monday in January, April, July and Oc¬ tober, of each year. ARTICLE IX. At an early time to be fixed by the Executive Com¬ mittee, an Inaugural Address shall be delivered by some member, to be selected by the Committee for 8 that purpose, and at each Anniversary of this Asso¬ ciation, the first whereof shall be adopted as the first Monday in January, 1871, an Address shall be deliv¬ ered by some member, to be elected for that purpose by the Association. The President of the Association shall fix the time at Which such election shall be made. ARTICLE X. Membership of this Association shall be recognized as involving the duty of such member diligently to promote the objects of the Association, and to make such contributions as in his own judgment shall, with a proper regard to his resources, evince his apprecia¬ tion of the purposes for which the Association has been formed. ARTICLE XI. Fifteen members present at any meeting of the As¬ sociation shall constitute a quorum to transact busi¬ ness.
