Sir : I have th« honor to enclose herewith an estimate of appropri-
ation necessary for the payment of interest on the removal ami sub-
sistenee fund due the Cherokee Indians in North Carolina, under the
act of Congre: s approved May 1,1* 63, and would re-peotf'ully lequest
that you communicate the same to Congress.

ESTIMATE of appropriation rrqu'red to pay the infcrist on the removal
and subsUteme fund due /he Cherokee Indians in JSorth Carolina, under
the act of tongiesj approved May 1, 1563.
The number of Indians in 1861, as per report of Com-
mis&ioner of Indian Aftbirs, was 1512, which, at $53 33
each, makes thelund - $80,634 96
Interest upon this fund, at 6 per cent., for four years,
from January I, 1861. to January I, 1364, inclusive,
at $d,8.>8 liu per annum, - - - $19,352 36
which last sum is the amount required.

To the Senate and House of Representatives:
I herewith transmit, for your consideration, a communication from
the (Secretary of the Treasury, submitting an. estimate of the amount
" necessary for the payment of interest on the removal and subsis-
tenee fund due the Cherokee Indians in North Carolina."
I recommend an appropriation of the sum specified for the purpose
indicated.
