I herewith transmit a communication from the Secretary of War,
covering an estimate of funds required by the Ordnance Bureau.
I recommend an appropriation of the amount specified for the pur-
pose indicated.

Sir: I have the honor to enclose for.transmission to Congress, an
estimate of funds required by the Ordnance Bureau, to supply defi-
ciencies caused by transfer from the Quartermaster's Department,
during the year 1862.

ESTIMATE OF FUNDS required by Ordnance Bureau, to supply
deficiencies caused by transfers from Quartermaster's Department, during
the year 1862, as follows :
" ordnance service in all its branches."
Amount transferred from Quartermaster's Department,
as per act of Congress, approved January 30, 1862, $3,000,000 00
Amount transferred from Quartermaster's Department,
by approval of the President, August 7th, 1862, 5,000,000 00
Total, $8,000,000 00
This amount was expended in the purchase of ordnance and ord-
nan^e stores abroad, and also the manufacture and purchase of the
same within the limits of the Confederate States,
