Sri- Duke University Libraries Resolutions ado Conf Pam #257 [House.] HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, Feb. 6, 1865.— Ordered to be laid on the table and printed. [Presented by Mr. Barksdale.] RESOLUTIONS Adopted hy Humphrey' s Mississippi Brigade^ Army of Northern Virginia^ February 3, 1865. At a meeting of the officers and men of Humphrey's Mississippi Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia, held February 3d, 1865, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted : RESOLUTIONS. licsolved 1st. That the solemn obligation voluntarily incurred by us nearly four years ago, to serve the Confederate States faithfully against her enemies, and the melancholy but sweet recollections of comrades who now sleep in bloody graves, preclude forever for us the sacrilege of a Re-construction. 2d. That the inhumanity of a cruel foe, his cold-blooded murders, and the ingenuity to practice whatever could wound the sensibilities of a high-spirited people, have not weakened our allegiance, or caused us to regret the steps we have taken. 3d. That we see no cause for despondency in the condition of our affairs; and with an abitling faith in the mercy of "the Giver of every good and perfect gift," we trust soon, under the guidance of that Christian warrior, General R. E. Lee, to tinge with a silver lining the cloud that has so long obscured the destiny of our Con- federacy. -1th, That our confidence in President Davis amounts to admira- tion and love ; that his strong, self-reliant character, his noble cour- age in trying times, and his pure patriotism, furnish the highest example ever oflfered to a people struggling for national existence. 5th. That a copy of these resolutions be sent to President Davis, to our Senators and Representtitives from Mississippi, to the Rich- mond Examiner and Sentinel, rocjuesting the other Richmond papers to copy, and to the Eastern (Mississippi) Clarion.
