This vessel was purchased from the Navy Department by the claimants, and afterwards seized by a verbal order of Brigadier Gen- eral E. Iliggins, as appears from the statement of Major General D. H. Maury, telegram from Brigadier General Higgins, and statement of Lieutenant Colonel V. Sheiiha, chief engineer district of the Gulf, and sunk as before stated. The amount claimed ($644,307 34) wa» ascertained by the appraisers appointed by Lieutenant Colonel Sheiiha, acting for the Government, and Julius A. Pratt, acting for the owners.
