"And the Court do* therefore sentence the said Private J. P. Ledbetter . of Co E, 8th Alabama cavalry, to perform hard labor on any of the fortifi- cations or public works belonging to the Confederate States, for the space. of six months, and that he be marched in front of his command while on parade, once each day, for the space of ten days, with a placard on his back with the words "Horse Thief," inscribed thereon, in large letters, and by-the time of "Kogue's March," ard in front of two soldiers with fixed bayonets, and in the position of charge bayonets. . The Co art. is thus lenient in consequence of his age, being now only nineteen or twenty year^ of age, and having been persuaded to act thus by others older than himself and of more experience. The proceedings, findings and sentences in the above cases are hereby approved and will be carried into effect. But in consideration of the youth and inexperience of Private J. P. Ledbetter, Co. C, 8th Alabama cavalry, his sentence is commuted to three months hard labor on gov ernment works: Lieut. J. W. Tyler, Co., C, 6th Missouri infantry*, ceases to be an officer of the Confederate States army from thin date. When prisoners are sentenced to hard labor they will be Bent to 8elma, Ala.
