BILL To be entitled An Act to declare what persons shall be exempt from military service. 1 The Congress of the Confederate States of America do enact, 2 That from and after the passage of this Act, all white male 3 residents of the Confederate States, between the ages of eighteen 4 and forty-five years, except those constituting the Exe- o cutive, Legislative and Judicial authorities of the Confederate 6 States, and of the several States composing the Confederacy, are, 7 and shall be, liable to military duty in the service of the Confed- 8 erate States, and shall be duly enrolled in the same, in accor- 9 dance with existing laws, and all laws and parts of laws, excmpt- 10 ing any persons between the said ages of eighteen and forty-five 11 years, are hereby repealed; Provided, That the Secretary of War 12 shall, upon such terms and conditions as may be prescribed by 13 him, and with the approval of the President, exempt from all 14 military service, or detail for specified purposes, such persom tr 15 persons, as, with the approval of the President, he may deem 1 6 essential for the good of the service, or the general interests of 17 the country ; and Prauided, furt/ier.
