 A BILL 
 
 ProTiding for the establishment and payment of claims for property 
 taken or informally and unwarrantably impressed for the use of the 
 Government. ^

 1 Section 1 . The Congress of tlie Confederate States of America di) 
 
 Z tnact, That it shall be the duty of the Secretary of War to 
 
 3 appoint or assign, in each Congressional District, an agent, not 
 
 4 liable to military duty in the field^ who shall, under the direction 
 
 5 of the post quartermaster, receive, takes proof in support of, 
 
 6 and examine all claima in the said district growing out of prop- 
 
 7 erty heretofore taken or informally and unwarrantably impressed 
 S for the use of the Government or the army, and report the facts 
 D of each case to the proper bureau for such action thereon as may 
 
 iO be just and proper in the premises. 
 
 1 Sec. 2. In case the head of the bureau, to whuia the report 
 
 2 provided for in the iirst seotion of this act shall be made, shall 
 
 3 be of opinion that any such claim is jmat and ought to be paid, 
 i he shall forthwith order the same, to be paid in such manner 'aa ia 
 o now provided by law in other cases.
