INFORMATION FOR THE ARMY.

 CLAIMS OF DECEASED SOLDIERS. 
 
 As Agent of the State of Georgia, I have filed in the officn 
 jferi^^econd Auditor of the Treasury'-, 3,000 claims for th<' 
 i*9^^B allowances of deceased soldiers, less than 2^ of whieli 
 haA^Pen settled, chiefly hecauae there is no official evidence 
 of amount due satisfactory to the Auditor ; and I now respect- 
 fully urge the commanders of companies to forward to tlii'* 
 .-.goncy 
 
 Final Stateajents. 
 
 The form of a final statement is not material, but it' is be?t 
 10 follow the form adopted by the Auditor, and sent to the 
 army. Wlicn that cannot be had, the statement may be logibh' 
 written, and should contain the name of deceased in full, wlieu 
 known; his rank, company and regiment ;, date, place and pe- 
 riod of enlistment, re-enlistment or conscription ; date, place, 
 and cause of death ; when, and by whom last paid ; bounty, 
 wlictlier due or paid ; commutation for transportation in lieu ol" 
 lurlough, from and to what place, with distance ; clotliiiig a<!- 
 <50U.nt, and commutation for clothing, date from which due ; ef- 
 fects of deceased, and how disposed of; stoppages, and o*n what 
 account. 
 
 The statement should be dated and signed by the officer cuia- 
 inanding the conijuuiy, certified to be coiTcct, and utteisted by u 
 Quartermaster, or approved by the ofiicer commading regiment. 
 This is necessary, to show tb.e i!;enuinencss of the sisinaturc. 
 ^Vhere no commissionc(l ofiicer is in command of company, tlir 
 statement should be made, or endorsed, by the commander of 
 )hc regiment, battalion, or post; but a non-commissioned officer, 
 in connnand, is authorized to pre])arc it.

 When company l)ooks or rolls have been lost, or proper rf- 
 turns not made, (as from hospitals), the date of death may be 
 assumed from reliable information, although not certainly rv- 
 iDcmbercd or know.n. If the death occurred in a particubu- 
 month, (the exact day not being known), the claim Avill be u.- 
 loRcd and paid, to include the first day of the month. 
 
BOLNTY. 
 
 I 
 
 A l.onnty of fifty dollars is due to all soldiors wlin o^JIsicl-

 ibe passage of any of the acts of conscription: to all twelve 
 months' men who re-enlisted for three years, or the war : and 
 to all enlisted men who were continued in service by th Q^sc^n l' 
 April 16, 1862. ' MB 
 
 Non-coimissioned officers, musicians and privates, "w^^BTro 
 in service on the first day of April, 1864, and have n^Piceii- 
 absent from command, without leave, during the period of six 
 months next after said date, are entitled also to a bounty of one 
 hundred dollars, in a six per cent, government bond. In case 
 of death before the first of October, 1864, this bounty is paya- 
 ble to the heir or representative. (General Orders, l^o. 27, sec- 
 tion 3, p. 1, March 21, 1864). 
 
 Deceased Officeks. 
 
 AVlicn the deceased is a commissioned officer, the statement 
 shoul I be prepared by liis immediate commandiiHi officer, and 
 should contain his rank, command, when, where, and from what 
 cause he died, and, if possible, when and by whom he was last 
 paid. 
 
 Who Can Claim. 
 
 1st. The widow: 2nd. Guardian of minor child: 3rd. Father; 
 4th. Motlier. 
 
 If there is no widow, child, father or moth(?r, the claim must 
 be made by the administrator or executor of the deceased. 
 
 If deceased was a minor, represented by a guardian, the 
 guardian, as administrator ex-officio, may claim. A brother or 
 sister cannot claim as such. 
 
 Note. — By acts of Congress, Feb'y 16, and May 31, 1864, 
 State Agents are " charged with the duty of obtaining, from 
 the officers in command of companies, final statements of de- 
 ceased soldiers, to be filed in the Second Auditor's office, to fa- 
 cilitate the settlement of such claims;" and when an ofiicer or 
 soldier dies, if a statement is sent to this Agency, with name 
 and post office of claimant, the necessary claim papers will be 
 prepared and sent, with instructions, to the family of deceased : 
 and if blanks arc rt'n|uirod, I Avill aid in procuring them.
