The Executive Committee of the Soldiers' Wayside Home, are com- pelled to solicit aid from their fellow citizens of Charleston, and the State at large, for the support of that Institution. The benefits which tlie Wayside Home have rendered the Soldiers of the Confederate States, have not been confined to any one Department, but members ol' every State liave felt the influence of its great charity. Since its organization on tlie 1st of August, 1863, to the present time, 7th Sept., 1864, it has fed and provided a home for 43,000 Soldiers of all grades; it has been the means of relieving hunger, cold and nakedness ; it has protected the wives and daughters of Soldiers visiting their relatives in Hospitals or camp, and its funds have conveyed the wearv and destitute to their homes. Nor is this all ! Thousands unfit for camp duty — late inmates of a Hospital — have had their strength recuperated, and their health im- proved, who, without its fostering care, would, perhaps, have been lost to their country. While the State and Confederate Government applaud its usefulness, they have not contributed one dollar towards its support. The "SOLDIERS' WAYSIDE HOME" is peculiarly under the pro- tection of the people of South Carolina, and to them the Executive Com- mittee appeal for assistance in this mcment of jeopardy and its struggle for existence.
