J The President : Sir : I have the honor to report that the resolution of the House of Representatives, of the 21st instant, "requesting the President to communicate what amount of funds has been paid into the Confede- rate Treasury, under the operation of an Act entitled an Act for the sequestration of the estates, property and effects of alien enemies, and for the indemnity of citizens of the Confederate States and per- sons aiding the same in the existirig war with the United States, ap- proved August 30th, 1861, and the act amending the same, approved February 15. 1862. together with such other information in refer- ence to sequestered property in the hands of Receivers as may be deemed pertinent to the above inquiry." has been answered as fullv as it is in the power of this Department to do, in my communication of the 24th instant, in response to the resolution of the House of Representatives of the 12th instant, on the same subject.
