Able bodied persons over the age of forty-five 2 years may voliiiitocr in the Confederate service for three o years or the war, and in any arm of the service such vo- 4 lunteer may select ; each person so volunteering to re- 6 port himself to the officer having command of the pio- 6 per camp of instruction in his State, and when assem- . bled at such camp in sufficient mimbers to constitute if 8 companies, squadrons, battalions or regiments, the com- 9 mandant of such camp of instruction shall forthwith pro- 10 ceed to form such volunteers in companies, squadrons, 11 battalions, or regiments, giving to the volunteers of each 12 the right to elect the officers thereof according to the 13 laws of the proper State, and after such election has 14 taken place in manner aforesaid, the officer aforesaid 15 shall, without delay, report the result thereof to the Ad- 16 jutaut General of the Confederate States, and he shall, 1 7 as soon as may be thereafter, proceed to commission such 2 18 officers to serve in the arm selected. After such com- 19 panics, squadrons, battalions, or regiments shall be thus 20 organized and officered, the same shall continue at the 21 school of instruction so assembled, until called into ac- 22 tual service by the President for general or local de- 23 fence. Volunteers under this section shall be entitled to 24 the same bounty as authorized by former acts, and be 25 paid in like manner.
