Ink-stain on corner of title-page. London, 1709. "Kindly presented to me by my constant friend, Samuel Timmins, Esq., of Birmingham, England. Oct. 22d, 1879. Joseph Crosby." This edition was based on the Fourth Folio and contains the seven Doubt- ful Plays found therein. The pagination of the six volumes is continuous, 1-3324. The full-page copper-plate cuts, one at the beginning of each play, are interesting as showing the stage costumes and appliances of the period. Nicholes Kowe, himself no mean poet, stands first in that long line of edit- ors who have tried their hand at the text of Shakespeare. His edition will always have a distinct value as an "original source" for the Life of Shake- speare. In "Soma Account of th3 Lite, &3., of Mr. William Shaliespear" (vol. l.pp. i.-XL.), he gathered from tradition many details that would other- wise have perished. Very Scarce. Mr. Crosby says, " I was twelve years looking in vain for a set of 'Eowe'." 7 The Works of Mr. William Shakespear. Volume the Sev- enth.
