Into the collection of the library described in the following pages, the owner has put much time, a great deal of love, and a large amount of money. The result has been a collection which, while not being very extensive, is yet distinctive in character, and comprises such an array of volumes on local American history and biography, bibliography, and some branches of general literature as cannot easily be duplicated without the outlay of a considerable amount of the elements that have already been given to its formation. There are not a few rare titles in the Catalogue : many are not easily ob- tained, and all are in very fine condition. Mr. Boardman, the gentleman who has collected this library and now offers it for sale, has long been a resident of Augusta, Maine, where he is editor and joint proprietor of one of the leading journals of that State. • He is a member of the Maine Historical Society, the New England Historic Gen- ealogical Society, the Prince Society, and corresponding mem- ber of the Vermont and Wisconsin Historical Societies, and of the American Entomological Society. He has published much relating to the agriculture and natural history of his State. It is but just to say that this Catalogue is only of a portion of his collection. He has one cf the largest libraries of works on agriculture and the natural sciences relating thereto, ill New England ; and is a close student and extensive writer on these subjects. It is because of pressing duties and in- crease of devotion to these studies, that this portion of his library is disposed of. The original of this book is in the Cornell University Library. There are no known copyright restrictions in the United States on the use of the text. http://www.archive.org/details/cu31924029584913 ^ CATALOGUE, / ^«r 1 (31 BBOTT, John S. C. History of Maine.
