Mundy DIRECTIONS FOR FINDING THE BOOKS ON THE SHELVES The following list of books is intended as a guide to persons using the gene- alogical department of ±he Syraonse Public Library. The books are arranged on the shelves according to subject, and alphabetically by author, beginning with general works on genealogy in Class 939. Family histories, 939.3 are arranged alphabetically by family. Nanfes'^^^^*'^''^'939'4^^"'^'^^®'^ alphabetically by subject, except that Epitaphs 939 5 ) publications of societies are kept together. Heraldry, Peerages, etc., Coats of Arms, Crests, etc., 939.6-939.8 The local histories, which include the state, county and town histories and records, are arranged alphabetically by state, and under each state the county and town histories byname, viz.. First, historical collections and general des- criptive works on that state, including military histories, etc. Second, counties, towns, etc., in the state, alphabetically by name. When there are more than one work on a town, they are arranged alphabetically by author, and divided into: Greneral Histories, including town records; Collected Biographies ; Church Histories ; Directories ; Education and Miscellaneous. By following these simple directions, patrons of the library raay select their books without diflBculty. In cases of doubt they are requested to avail them- selves of the assistance of the attendants, not only for finding the books they wish, but for suggestions in obtaining further information not appearing here. This list contains all books added to this department up to June, 1901. Some of the books may seem to have little bearing on the subject indicated, but they will be found to contain records that will be of interest to investigators.
