The following list is made up of titles of books and pam- phlets contained in the Legislative Reference Department of the Vermont State Library. There is also a vast amount of material made up of Senate and House Journals, Senate and House bills from the several states, articles from periodicals and newspaper clippings not covered by this list. This department was author- ized by the legislature of 1910 and most of the material has been a,cquired since the department was organized, in June 1911, though some of the material was already in the library. Since that time it has all been catalogued and arranged to meet the needs of this department. This material has been obtained from various sources, and has necessitated a large amount of search and correspondence. Most of the pamphlet material has been secured from state libraries and the different departments of the several states, also from political and economic societies and organizations. The more important subjects covered by this material are accidents, agriculture, banks and banking, boycotts and injunctions, capital punishment, child labor, com- mission government, conservation of natural resources, cost of living, elections, employers' liability, forestry, initiative, refer- endum and recall, insurance, labor and labor legislation, motor vehicles, moving pictures, primary elections, public health, public utilities, pure food, taxation, white slave traffic, woman suffrage and workmen's compensation. While this department is designed especially to meet the needs of public officials and legislators, the public at large is always welcome to its use and service at all times.
