On Friday afternoon the senior students of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts added to the dramatic experience, if not to the gayety, of the town by presenting at thg Empire Theatre a problem play by Max Nordau, entitled The Right to LoTe. The eminent and very discouraging philosopher decides that In certain circumstances people have not the right to love — but the ques- tion of whether or not Mr. Nordau has the right to write for the stage while apparently ignorant of all the laws of the drama is debatable. The Right to Love is an uncommonly bad play archi- tecturally, and the problem that it presents is by no means amazingly new. But for all that the Academy conferred a public benefit by producing the drama — which had never before been acted in America and likely never will be again. The students assuredly bring most Interesting dra- matic curios — if not treasures— to the local stage. The Right to Love, which is in four acts, was translated by Mary J. Safford.
