THE THREE LISTS SHOULD BE KEPT TOGETHER IN THE FILES AND ARE TO BE AS CAREFULLY ACCOUNTED FOR AS ANY OTHER SCHOOL PROPERTY. INTRODUCTION The books herein listed constitute the Wisconsin township school library list for the two-year period beginning April 1, 1920, and ending March 31, 1922. The list has been prepared under the direction of the State Superintendent of Public In- struction and is issued in conformity with the provisions of sub- section (8) of section 20.24, section 40.36, and section 40.37, of the statutes. Contract for Supplying the Books The State Library Committee, consisting of the State Super- intendent of Public Instruction, the Secretary of the Free Library Commission, and the Attorney General, has let the contract for supplying the books under the provisions of the township library law, for the biennial period above mentioned, to the Eau Claire Book and Stationery Company, of Bau Claire, "Wisconsin. Among the terms of the contract the following may be noted : Orders shall be filled within 60 days from the time they are re- ceived hy the company. However, the company is relieved of this obligation in the case ot books or periodicals which are out of print or the editions of which are exhausted. In all such cases, however, the company shall immediately notify the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. The transportation charges shall be paid by the town, village, or city receiving the books. There shall, however, be no charges on the part of the company for boxing or packing or materials used therefor, nor for delivery or drayage. Books are to be sent by par- cel post, express, or freight as shall be determined by good business principles. All books furnished shall conform as to title, edition, binding, and in all other respects to those designated in this list, provided the company shall have the right and opportunity to correct any and all unintentional mistakes and errors made in filling orders. The company is forbidden to recommend or suggest any particu- lar book or books to be purchased under the provisions of the town- ship library law. In the case of books ordered which are out of print or for other good and sufficient reasons unavailable, changes from the original order can be made only by the superintendent concerned. Such changes are to be made only for books in regard to which notice as to unavailability has been sent out to superintendents by the state superintendent. If books are to be sent by mail an amount sufficient for pos- tage must be added to the cost of the books. Postage on a single book of average size (one pound), within the second zone (150-mile radius), is six cents, and on six such books only eleven cents. Slightly higher rates should be allowed on large books. For the third zone (150 to 300 miles from Bau Claire), the postage on an average book is eight cents, but if several books are wanted, express rates are usually a little less than mail rates. In this zone, shipments of two pounds or more should preferably be sent by express, as charges do not need to be prepaid and the express company is responsible for safe de- livery — ^without additional cost for insurance. The Eau Claire Book & Stationery Company assume no responsibility for safe delivery of books sent by mail, unless insured. Insurance fee for value up to and including $5.00, 3 cents; over $5.00 and up to $25.00, 5 cents; over $25.00 and up to $50.00, 10 cents. Bemittances in excess of cost of iransportation mil he promptly refunded.
