A collection which has never before, and, we may venture to say, will never again be found embodied in one catalogue 24 CATALOGUE. for t.ale. The experience of the collector of these volumes, and we believe of many other book-colleotors who have at- tempted a like task (and given it up), is, that the time, money, and patience required in such an undertaking are enough to deter them forever from another like attempt. Certainly the local histories, the great mass of them, are of all books the most diffi- cult to obtain. Published usually by subscription, and conse- quently a very small edition, it is often found, after publication, that there are barely copies enough to supply the subscription-list ; thus rendering it extremely difficult for parties, and even libraries, to obtain a copy. We could cite many cases like this of some of the volumes here offered. 358 Newburyport, History and Present State of By Caleb Cushing, ■ 12mo, boards, untrimmed. Newburyport, 1826. Very scarce.
