The out-burst of the Chinese against all foreigners in June, 1900, was so sudden, that many of our missionaries in the interior were unable to escape, and were murdered. Many others were saved in ways almost miraculous. The story of the siege of Peking is still fresh in our minds. The following letters from the Rev. Mark Williams to his chil- dren describe the escape of one company of missionaries across the Desert of Gobi into Siberia.
