PROVINCIAL EXHIBITION
UULES AND REGUl-ATIONS.
The following Eules and Recrulations are published for the informa-
tion and guidance of intending exhibiters, and a strict compliance there-
with will be required : —
1. The Exhibition will be open for Live Stock, Agricultural, Horti-
cultural, Domestic and Dairy products, Manufactures of all kinds,
Minerals and Arts.
2 Animals may be Provincial Bred or Imported, but must be the
property of a resident of the Province, and if Imported, must have been
the property of the exhibiter for at least three months.
3 Agricultural, Horticultural, Domestic and Dairy products, Manu-
factures, Minerals, and other articles, must be the growth, product, or
manufacture of New Brunswick, tc be eligible for a money prize ;
other articles may be exhibited, and if considered worthy, recom-
mended for honorary mention, or a Diploma may be granted.
ENTRIES.
4. All entries mu3t be made on printed forms, which may be ob-
tained from the Secretary for Agriculture, and the Secretaries of the
several Agricultural Societies, free of charge, on application by mail or
otherwise, These forms are to be filled up by reference to the clas-
sification and numbers in the Premium List, signed by the exhibiter,
and forwarded to the Secretary for Agriculture at Fredericton. not
later than the 15th of September next.
5. Tickets in accordance with the entries will be furnished to ex-
hibitors, who are required to attach the same to the article exhibited,
and allow it to remain so attached during the Exhibition. Exhibiters
are requested to label their articles with the name of the same, and any
information desirable to be made public. They may put their own
name on the article in any way they please.
6. Exhibiters are particularly requested to take notice, that entries
should be made not later than September 20th, in order to allow time
for carrying out the various details. Entries not sent in by the above
date may be received conditionally until the Saturday before the Ex-
hibition, and will be allotted such space as may be vacant, after this
day no entries will he received. It is intended to publish list of entries
for the information of the Judges and the public, and only those sent
in early can appear in such list.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
7. In the classes of Blood Horses and Pure Bred Ca.tle, full Pedif?rees,
properly certified, miasi accomi)any the entry. No animals will he al-
lowed to compete as pure bred, unless th* 7 ])08sess regular Stud or
Herd Book Pedigrees, and satisfactory evidence he produced that they
are directly descended from such stock
The English, Ameirican. or Canadian Stud Books, nnd the English,
American, Canadian and New Brunswick Herd Books, shall be the
standard authority or evidence of purity of blood,
8. Exhibiters of Pure Bred Stock are required to register the Pedi-
gree of the Animal in the Provincial Herd Book, if not already entered
in one of the Herd Books, previous to Exhibition, a certificate of which
must accompany the entry, and in all cases where this is not done,
other satisfactory evidence must be furnished of the purity of said stock.
Regard will be had to blood as established by pedigree, symmetry, size,
and general characteristics, of the several breeds or races of animals,
and the Judges will make due allowance for age and other circumstances,
which may seem to them proper.
9. ExhJbiters must come prepared to have their horses and cattle
led into the ring, when directed to do so by the Superintendent of the
grounds, precisely at the time specified ; all animals not so brought
forward, will be ruled out of competion.
10. Exhibiters of Pure Bred Sheep, Pigs and Poultry, are required to
filo certificates at the time of entry, clearly showing to the Judges, that
the animals specified therein are from reliable breeders and exhibiters of
such stock in Europe ov America, or descended from stock (it Provincial
Bied) accompanied w^ith podigree of the same; the names of the
breeders to be inserted, also that of the exhibiter.
11. In the Live Stock Classes, thf* entry must in every instance be
made in the name of the bona fide owner, and unless this ntle is observed
no premium will be aw^arded or paid.
12. In all other Classes, entries must be made in the name of the pro-
ducers or manufacturers only.
13. Manufacturers are requested to furnish wMth their article ex-
hibited, the quantity they can produce or supply, and the price, for the
information of the Judges, whose decision will bt based on the combi-
nation of quality, style, and price, and the adaptation of the article to
tbe purpose orpurpo^.^s for which it is intended No person shall be
allowed to enter for exhibition, more thiui one .'•pecimen in any Section
of a Class unless the additional article be of a distiui ', named variety or
pattern from the first. This rule is not to apply to animals, but to all
kinds of grain, vegetable products, fruit, manul'actured articles, etc., in
which each additional specimen would necessarily be precisely similar
to the first

enumerated article, which, but for a dcliciency in quantity, or number,
or other like requirement, would be admissable as an enumerated
article
15. All Agricultural and Horticultural products must be the growth
of the present year. Manufactured articles or Works of Art which
have been awarded prizes at any previous Provincial Exhibition, shall
not be entered in competition for the prize's named in the prize list, but
may be awarded diplomas, or honorary menlion if, in the opinion of
the Judges, such articles are superior to any other exhibited, and are
deemed worthy of the same.
16. Exhibiters of machinery and other heavy articles, are requested
to have the articles on the grounds, if possible, a week before the Ex-
hibition opens. Lighter articles may be received until the Saturdnv
previous to the Exhibition.
17. Exhibiters should be particular to see that the proper entry
cards, as mentioned in the oth Rule, are attached to each aiticle, and
should there be any omission or error, procure others at the office
18. Articles not accompan%d by the owners, maybe addressed to the
care of the Secretary for Agriculture, who will receive them (if within
the time specified for the delivery of such artich's as above mentioned, j
and place them in the building, but in no case will they be opened or
placed on exhibition, unless written authority is forwarded to do so at
the same time.
19 Exhibiters on arriving with their articles, will apply at the office
for information as to where their articles are to be placed
20^ Exhibiters will, at all times, give the necessary personal attention
to whatever they may ha\re on exhibition, and at the close of the show,
take entire charge ot the same.
21. Nothing will be allowed to be removed from the premises until
the close of the Exhibition except live stock, which may be removed at
4 o'clocL- P M , on Friday
22. While every precaution, under the circumstances, to ensure the
safety of articles S3nt to the Exhibition will be taken, vet it is to be dis-
tinctly understood, that the owners ihemselves must take the risk of ex-
hibiting them; but should any article be accidently injured, los^t, or
stolen, the officers will «^ive all the assistance in their power towards the
recovery of the same, but will not make any payment for the value
thereof.
2>. Arrangements will be made with the proprietors of the river
steamers itnd railroads, for the conveyance of animals and articles to and
from the l.xhibition, either by refund of frei-hts paid or otherwise, as
may hereafter be arra'iged, the particulars of which arrangement will
be duly made public
ADMISSION TO BUILDINGS AND YARD.
24. The entry tickets upon animals or articles will admit th(> person
bringing them to the Yard or Building, along with such animals or
articles, without the usi> of any other ticket Afterwards su'^h parties

25. Necessary attendants upon stock and articles belonging toexhi-
biters will be furnished with admission tickets, with their names written

tickets to other persons will forfeit all privileges conferred by it, and
the doorkeeper will retain the ticket.
26 Exhibiters will be furnished with a season ticket to the Building
and Show Yard on the payment of one dollar The exhibiter s name
will be written on the ticket and it will be good at tlu; exhibiters en-
mice only ; any other person presenting this ticket will be refused ad-
inittance. and the ticket forfeited The doorkeeper will see that this

27. Admission tickets to the public will be issued on Tuesday. Wed-
nesday, Thursday and Friday of the Exhibition week at 25 cents eacji^
Each ticket good for one admission ; children under 14 Y^^^^f^^^^^e. 12
cents. Carriages to the yard 50 cents, each occupant, except the driver,
to be provided with the usual admission ticket.
JUDarS AND THEIR DUTIES.
28. The Judges will be appointed, and will receive a circular inform-
ing them of the fact, and inviting them to act, ,,^ns..nt.

3G In tho Fine Arts and Mechanical Departments, Diplomas will bo
awarded, in addition to the money prizes, to any specimen evincing
groat skill in itn production, or deemed oth-irwise worthy of such dis-
tinction, on its boing recommended by the Judges and approved of.
S7, In the abseiK'e of competition in any of the Classes, or if the
stock or articles exhibited be of inferior quality, the Judges are instruct-
ed to award only such premiums as they think the article deserving of.
They will exercise their discretion as to whether they will award the
iirst, second, third, or any premium.
38. Each awarJ must be written in a plain, careful manner o/i the
blank page opposite the number of the entry.
;59. No person will be allovfed to interfere with the Judges while in
the discharge of their duties. Exhibiters so interfering will forfeit their
lights to any premium to which they might otherwise be entitled.
40. Judges will be governed by the Special Hules under each class
(if any) and thb General Rules. {8ee under the head of entries.) Any
further information required can bo had on application at the ofhce.
PAYINC} THE PREMIUMS.
41. The premiums will be paid on the last day of the Exhibition. If
not convenient to call in person they will be paid to order, and all
prizes not claimed within three months will be considered forfeited.
MISCELLANEOUS.

or halters to properly secure them. Proper pens will be furnished for
Pigs or Sheep.
46. Auctioneers will be on the ground after the premiums are an-
nounced, for the purpose of selling any animal or article which the
owner may wish to dispose of, and every facility will be offered for the
transaction of business.
47. Should any information be required in reference to animals or
articles taking prizes, the owners will be expected to transmit it when
required to do so.
